Thank you for this. It’s immensely clarifying, and much better than any other online resource I’ve been able to find. I wish this video were linked in the description of every other video you’ve shared.

Dear Todd Thanks for all your good videoes :-). After 20 hours of looking at youtube town walking in slowmotion. I can see that some are moving with ease, and others are fighting there way in walking. And you are almost floting on the ground. This is next level walking. Coming from a fighting my way in walking. I want to lean to float. I have a questian when it comes to the walking code gait cycle. It is about internal and external rotation of the femur, of the the standing and the swining leg in all of the gait cycle. Questian is: That the maximum external rotation of the femur is, when the heel is coming down (and rotation of the upper core = turn) to the ground, and the wight transferens happen? And the other leg behind when it is in toe of position. Is this in maximun internal rotation when it is there? And if so. Do the leg behind, when it start to lift off (swing leg). Does the femur maintain the maximun internal rotation all the way until it is ready to go to the ground, and only then change maximum internal to maximum external. Ore does the change of the rotation of the swinging leg starts before when leaving the toe of? Does it drive the legs lige a enginen (from the upper core) all the way in the gait, cycle from one swing to another in the proces of walking, slowlig shifting the external to the internal, and at the same time help create the moving the legs from the front to the back? So the shifting the internal to external rotation? Ore in short. How is it working in shifting the internal to external rotation. Wher is the legs when it happend? And do you have a video og this? Thanks and kind regard from Henry About me: I am 54. Now 3weeks on your cannel (seen around 80 videoes, and the ebook, and try to understand, and implement it. It is work in progress). I been on crutches now for 3 month, rehab from 2 big medial menicus tear in both leges, and slowly getting better (now needing less and les support force for the arms). In short, my walking was, and is completely fuck up. I need from completely new, to lear to walk and move again.

The most important thing is to move from the core and the core directs the legs. The external rotation of the femur is going to in part be guided by the internal oblique which is going to root the leg while turning toward the standing leg. That rotation of the abdomen rotates the pelvis toward the standing leg and and also rotates the femur out. So the femur should have a feeling of rotating externally throughout the stance phase. It will begin the passively internally rotate after the other leg heel is placed and the root begins to switch to the other leg.

I am getting better at this, but my right foot doesn’t want to lift, but is coming up a little, as I concentrate on lifting it. Muscle development must be getting stronger . Less pain when walking, but not pain free

I dr i see in the other vedeo you Said the dorsflextion and the planter flextion of ankle joints it was reflexes of core movement . In the mide stance i want just know what the core make ankle dorsifex and propl the body forward
@ToddMartinMD
@ToddMartinMD Жыл бұрын
When you rotate your upper and lower waist toward the flexing hip of the rear standing leg, it triggers an active plantar flexion of the ankle. This results in a natural heel off without any need to try and push off, which would be unnatural. These postural reflexes allow the body to maintain vertical posture as we move our core in different configurations.
@ToddMartinMD
@ToddMartinMD Жыл бұрын
To finish the answer, the ankle dorsiflexes when the upper waist turns away from the flexing hip and lower waist turns toward the flexing hip. Check out my videos on The Core Techniques of Lift and Retreat.

Is the knee slightly bent during initial contact of the heel in the Walking phase?
@ToddMartinMD
@ToddMartinMD Жыл бұрын
The knee will be unlocked, so not really bent, but also not locked out. Think of standing with your knee locked in extension, then unlock it. That is the degree of bend at the moment of heel contact, and then it clears from there. Going up hill it is bent

What about pelvis slight elvetion withe rotation forward in swing phase (lower torso) and that make the contrlaterl side in posterior depression and have exceelent whight acceptence what you tink about that ?
@ToddMartinMD
@ToddMartinMD 3 жыл бұрын
I agree with this. The gluteus medius is adducting the hip during stance phase. This lifts the hip on the opposite side. That lifting action continues until the heel hits, at which time we activate the gluteus medius on the side of the new standing leg, lifting the pelvis on the side of the new swing leg.

In the swing phase you said all the change powerning shold come from the stand leg so the swing shold be passive . but i need. Dorsiflexed my ankle in terminal swing for avoiding the slap gait and no movemnent of the core dorsiflexed the ankle what you think about that because i try to aplicate without any change in the swing leg found my self slaping the foot ?
@ToddMartinMD
@ToddMartinMD 3 жыл бұрын
You don't need to do anything consciously with your knees or ankles. They move automatically based on your core movement. Focus on you core and the rest will follow.

So you said that i dont do anything to my swing leg how can clearnce the ankle to ground if i dont flex my hip that was compenste by anouther thing and my pelvis start hiking for get that clearnce and swing forwar

Great question. I am on my way out the door to shoot a video on this exact thing. The short answer is that you rotate enough to move in the direction you are trying to move and keep the proper timing. Over-rotating wont change the overall movement but it will throw off your timing. So you rotate until the particular part of the movement is complete. A more detailed video will be out in the next day.

To me it looks like you're over striding. Or does over striding only apply to running?

My forefoot would. it be lowering in a controlled fashion, as it is in the video, if I was overstriding. When you overstride, the forefoot flops down without any control.
