A Herculean task. Best wishes and luck to you. Glad to see some of Youngstown's historical heavy industry being preserved.

It'll be really cool to see it up and running glad you saved it because most of the time all that stuff winds up going to scrap and all the really cool things that actually built this country most of them are scrapped and gone

Merry christmas! When you're going to pour the concrete for the engine, I hope you're able to film or have someone film the event.

I wish I was more disciplined on the filming of what we do. I have filmed stuff and never uploaded it because I don't have time for editing and creating the videos. Only the ones I film in one take get uploaded because that is easy to do.

@@YoungstownSteelHeritage yeah, I know you've spoken about it before. Could you perhaps get some help from someone else? I'm sure there's someone who wants to help, either both with filming and or editing :)

That tank might also make a good condenser oil trap for the exhaust of the Tod engine
@YoungstownSteelHeritage17 күн бұрын
Haven't figured out the exhaust system yet, but will probably be a 16" line off the HP cylinder over to the side wall, then into a square steel box and then into another 16" pipe going up between the crane runway and the outside wall and through the roof. Ought to hear a soft chuffing sound when she runs. Somewhere in there will have to be a drain line for condensate and a way to catch the residual cylinder oil.

I can only imagine how busy the millwrights who originally installed and maintained these monsters were! There were no lasers, diamond drills, concrete pumpers, epoxy, whatever..

And without those tools, nobody at our socioeconomic level would be able to do what we are doing! The rise of modern technology and labor saving devices has made doing these things possible.

You got everything except a blast furnace and an open hearth! lol

Looking good. Have you considered making scale rail for the 7 1/4” gage crowd? It would be awful fun to watch a steam mill make rail for (little) steam engines.
@YoungstownSteelHeritage17 күн бұрын
The problem is that we would have to run it as a full time job to keep up with the orders!

@ True. I’d drive across country to buy some.

I wish a lot of people who are interested in this were closer. We would have a bigger crew!

There's a bunch of non profits that need oddball track parts including 7-1/4-1/2 scale equipment parts

Every evening I am a bit depressed that I didn't get enough done that day, and the days keep getting shorter the older I get!
