Had a similar idea recently, drat, someone got to it first! I really love the implementation, it seems to work really well! One idea I had was of "wind direction" - certain rules that you can change the direction of at any point, to make things fall in different directions, for example. Glad to see you nailed the rule making UI.

This is an incredibly beautiful tool! I've been mesmerized with it for two days, and couldn't get to bed before 5am yesterday. So far I've had the pleasure of making water, sand, gas and flame and such things. Then I made a model of how entropy spreads in the universe. Then I made an organic spreading fungus like thing that couldn't live in it's own wake until it faded, which just kept going and going. Thank you so much! I'm a UX designer, and I can't wait to show people at work. My kids also just want to play with it. (Good starting point to learn a little programming.) Please let me know if you want me to contribute some perspective on UI, or want to discuss where to take this if you were to develop it further - I'd love to contribute some time to help out. I got into design because I made abstract strategy and combinatorial board games. This is such a natural extension of what I like to play around with :)

Glad you're enjoying it! in my day job, I make more useful UX stuff. the stuff i make for KZbin is a fun outlet where i can enjoy making and exploring weirder UX choices. I consider CellPond like a "fashion show" piece. It's not supposed to be actually useful or practical. But it shows what 'could be' on the runway. It demonstrates an idea, and might move the fashions in a certain direction. So I'm not planning to make any massive improvements to UX or style. I do have some more features and reworks planned for if i ever do another video. Otherwise, I'll leave it how it is. That being said, it's all open source, so you're welcome to submit changes or issues, or fork!

@@TodePond So cool! I'm having a bit of trouble you see. Is there a list of interactions or instructions anywhere? Sometimes I spend a lot of time making something, and then I accidentally push a button and everything goes away, or is divided into small cells or whatever. I also have trouble replicating the things I see you do in the "nothing" video, because the diamond doesn't show up and so on.

Hello, for the past few months I’ve been working on a project called Evolution Engine. Evolution engine will be an engine to simulate evolution in cellular automata. It will be fully programable with it’s own scripting language so users will be able to create their own types of blocks, place them and experiment with creatures with neural networks. The reason I’m saying all of this is I want to ask if you’d be interested in checking it out and if you like it, making a video out of it. It’s very directly related to your channel and you’ve already made videos checking out other CAs. It will take months to develop this fully but when I’m done I think it’s gonna be awesome
