Hi Josh! I never leave comments on KZbin videos but I really wanted to thank you for your guidance. I referred solely to your videos for my TOEFL prep and got my results yesterday. I scored 119/120 (Reading 30, Listening 30, Speaking 30, Writing 29). While I was already quite comfortable with English, your videos got me used to the exam structure and helped me score well. Thanks a lot!

Hey everyone! I took TOEFL a week ago. Just wanted to share my experience with everyone and maybe get some advice:( First, i wanna say in advance that before the test i had done dozens of mock tests and had been pretty sure that i’d get over 110 points… Buuut the huge problem and burden for me turned out to be my nervousness and stress. I was over stressing so much , so i couldn’t concentrate properly, especially, in the reading section. (Btw the 2nd text was quite challenging) Moreover, before the speaking part, i asked for more rough paper, i put my hand up and was waiting for 5 FREAKING minutes. So i got cold feet and panicked a little, that’s why i wasn’t this good in the first two tasks of the speaking section. Of course, i don’t pass the buck on those women who work there, but it interfered with my concentration a little Soo my unofficial results of the listening were 22 points, however when i received the official ones it was 21😮💨 i wanted to know how this is possible? My score- R-20, L-21, S-24, W- 24 What conclusion did i come to? I guess i need to work on my mental state more before the test and read more academic literature…
@Алиса-ы6ь2ч13 күн бұрын
I can relate! My anxiety ruins everything because I get to the test day and I forget the structure and won't be able to concentrate much. Honestly, a nightmare! I definitely need to find a way to calm down... maybe natural remedies Good luck and hang in there!!!

Hi Josh, thanks for all the work and effort. Greatly appreciated! If I may, I'd like to ask a question regarding the Speaking Section. I don't use fill words such as "um" and so on, but use precise pauses instead. The TestReady E-Rater, however, scolds me everytime for this by pointing out that I didn't sustain speech. So, I'm curious whether this will be scolded on test day next Saturday, too. What is your take to improve the E-Rating Score? Getting a little nervous due this, to be honest. Templates working just fine, by the way. Kind regards :)
@TSTPrepАй бұрын
Great question. It’s a hard one to answer without hearing you speak. Some pauses, like the pauses at the end of a sentence, are natural and expected. But if you pause too long, or stop in the middle of a sentence, this can lead to deductions. I would suggest you do a speaking evaluation with a real teacher to see if you really do have an issue with pausing or if the E Rater is scoring them wrong, which happens sometimes. :) Here is a link to the speaking evaluation if you are interested - tstprep.com/store/toefl/speaking-evaluations-for-the-toefl-ibt/

@@TSTPrep Hi, thank you for responding! I consulted a good friend who is a native speaker. Also, I took the test today. Unfortunately, I got 22 in Reading which is far away from the results of the mock exams I practiced with. Listening was good (28). Speaking and Writing were pretty easy. Didn't expect that. By the way, I purchased your Emergency Course, because I ran out of mock exams. I will take the exam again, because I desperately need a higher score in Reading. Hey Josh! Thank you so much for your incredible job, service to the world. I feel like you are my teacher and best friend as I was preparing for TOEFL through your videos last 6 months. I score 88/120 it was my first time taking it. R-19 / L-26 / S-21 / W-22 My analysis of what went wrong showed me that I didn’t practice enough two last sections. Also, the reading section was so tricky, much trickier than I anticipated. I got two passages on topics that I’m familiar with, however that was challenge. Will take one more month for preparation and retake it in December.

Hey Josh thank you for everything you do. I have been taking practice test on the Toelf official website and getting 3/4 , and sometimes 4/4 in the speaking section. I also took the complete test on the website and they scored me 25 - 30 on the speaking section. Now my score requirement is 26 on the speaking section, do you think I'm ready to go?.
@TSTPrepАй бұрын
Great question! It is hard to say. Remember these practice tests are not graded by people, which is why you get a range as a grade. But real people will grade part of your speaking test. As such, there can be differences between practice scores and real scores, in both directions. In general, I would say your chances are good, but please just take the scoring literally.
