Tofu in Soy Sauce
Ingredients:
- 1 box of firm tofu
- Scallions
- Chili peppers
- Minced garlic
- Cooking oil
Seasonings:
- Soy sauce
- Sugar
- Salt
- Vegan oyster sauce
- sesame oil
How to:
Use a paper towel to gently pat dry the tofu (to avoid splattering when frying).
Cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces, or as desired, you can cut them into rectangles shape like I did.
Prepare finely chopped scallions and finely chopped chili peppers, both used to enhance flavor and add color to the dish.
In medium heat, wait for the pan to heat up. Pour oil into the pan
Test the oil's temperature by dipping a chopstick into it; if you see bubbles forming around the chopstick, the oil is hot enough.
Carefully place each piece of tofu into the hot oil to prevent splattering.
Fry the tofu for about 7-10 minutes, or until the pieces turn golden on all sides.
Remove the tofu and drain the excess oil
Prepare the sauce:
- 2 teaspoons of soy sauce
- A pinch of salt
- 1 teaspoon of vegan oyster sauce
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 teaspoon of chili sauce
-1 tablespoon of sesame oil
- And one teaspoon of cold water
Heat a little cooking oil in another pan.
Add minced garlic and scallions, sauté until they turn golden and fragrant. Remove the garlic and scallions once they're golden. Turn off the heat.
Use the remaining garlic and scallion-infused oil in the pan to pour in the prepared sauce.
Important: Do not turn on the heat at this point. Use the remaining heat from the pan and the stove.
Quickly add the fried tofu, stirring to coat the tofu with the sauce. The sauce should evenly coat the tofu. Add the chopped scallions and mix well.
Serve the tofu in soy sauce on a plate. Garnish with the earlier sautéed garlic and scallions, add a few slices of chili peppers on top for extra color, and sprinkle some white sesame seeds.
This dish is best served hot with rice and is suitable for vegetarians. It has simple ingredients and a quick cooking time. Enjoy your meal!
