6:31 - 6:52 A WORD! we often don't realize the importance of one's environment , especially when we're in it ; we just go on day by day , it's our life , our norm , and "it is what it is" (as Black folks like to say) .. i'm so glad she mentioned how extremely difficult it is to go against / become more than what one has been surrounded by

I went to school in the area where she’s from. She’s right it’s hard work to achieve great things from those humble beginnings but you can choose to use it as motivation and NEVER stop trying. I have elevated to greater levels but had to stop listening to the people around me telling me I won’t make it. That’s the problem, stop taking advice from the people around you unless they are already where you want or be.

Growing up, I was always the fastest kid in my class/grade. But I met these two neighborhood kids who were brothers. They were Jamaican, ran barefoot, and were FAST! Lol. I asked them why they ran barefoot and they said because it was faster than without shoes 🤷♂️

definitely an inspiration !! to me as a woman in a society that wants to age you out when you're rounding the corner to 29.. people's favorite thing to say is "uhnt uhn.. she's almost 30, she doesn't need to be partying" , "oh no you 'bout 30 girl, you can't run around like you used to in college, better slow" naaaaah , call me Shelly-Ann , i aint slowing down ! gon' be 36 still peaking , then when I peak in that field , i'll go to the next one and peak there , it doesn't stop (unless you stop) . keep getting better and better at something , life ain't ova 'til it's ova , and baby it ain't ova !

I know the feeling, I ran most my race barefoot from basic school to high school because I didn't have any shoes, I showed up at champs and some of my team members said to me you can't run barefoot here, so they decided to tie one of the older girls spikes on my feet, I came in second. I usually come first, but second was okay adjusting to the spikes. There is so many children out there great in sports in the country side but no help. One day I would love to help some of these children. I help alot of kids over the years with school supplies etc. But one day I will own a camp for kids. Continue to Hold the forth down Shelly
