Do You Know Why I as a Christian Believe in Christ? - Elder Ahmad S. Corbitt
Listen to or read this week's talk here: www.churchofje...
“I know from personal experience that teaching your beloved child why we all desperately need Jesus Christ and how to apply His joyful doctrine is what will strengthen and heal him or her. Let us turn them to Jesus, who is their true advocate with the Father.”
“Ask your parents or a leader later on, ‘Why did Jesus have to die?’ And, brothers and sisters, I have a confession to make: despite all I thought I knew about Church doctrine, history, policy, and so on, the answer to this central question to our faith did not come so easily.”

For me some of the most Christ-like people of God I have ever met have been atheists! And some of the worst people I have ever met have been Christians - knowing gospel principles isn't all there is to it. As for activism: it is needed within the LDS church and we all ought to be listening to the activists who are helping others to understand that we are in the 21st century - not the 19th century. There are necessary changes needed within the church and they have always come historically through three ways: external threats to the church from the government (such as taking away tax exempt status); a desire on the church's part to be considered a Protestant church; and (most importantly) through activists bringing up the things that need to be addressed and changed within the church. It is a slow process within LDS but it has happened on several important areas of doctrine (polygamy and blacks in the priesthood come to mind - among other things that have changed over time). Most people mistake learned conditioned responses for "beliefs". A belief is earned not learned - it requires a setting aside of our conditioning and investigate/study with critical thinking to come to an earned belief. The other thing I need to say is how important it is to not venerate anyone - to think that they have greater knowledge than our own God-nature inside of us. We can like and admire others but never put them above us.
