Thank you soooo much! I just bought my toilet less than 6 mths ago. It's a glacier bay power flush so it's a power house toilet. I flushed it and it kept running. I'm not handy, so I decided to watch KZbin. Couldn't find anything to help until I cane across your post. Paul, you're a genius! I've been trying to fix my running toilet for weeks. Put a few drops of red food coloring into the tank and it showed the water was leaking into the bowl. Replaced flapper valve, still leaking. Per your suggestion I cleaned the opening where the flapper valve covers with a utility brush and magic. NO MORE LEAK. Hip, hip hooray. Thank you so much. I was ready to buy a new toilet.

What if slight streams into the bowl happen ater the tank is filled for 15 min, and then cease. Note, the fill valve doesnt operate while the streams are visible, in my case.

My toilet is doing this only sometimes which is odd. One time when I flush, the drip won’t continue to happen afterward and then another time when I flush, it will continue to drip and very loudly might I add. What does this sound like to you? Does it sound like the chain is the issue sometimes? Or could it be the flushing handle piece (I don’t know terminology). My father had replaced the entire flushing handle piece a month ago and at first, the flush handle was very tight when pressing down to flush but has loosened when flushing over time. When he replace the flushing handle piece, the dripping had stopped for a month. So I feel like that’s odd considering you mention that this issue would only be cause by the flapper or a dirty valve. Unless the flushing handle is somehow not allowing the chain to be taut enough with the flushing handle piece inside the tank?

I replaced the flapper with a red korky universal, but there is still a dripping sound which leads to water refilling every 30 minutes or so, gonna try to clean the flush valve rim opening as you suggested, I was looking into a rubber ring seal that might might around the opening to give a better seal.

I installed a whole new flash valve(fluid master brand) and toilet still leaking and fill valve kicking in. I have installed dozens of them. Now I have to go back and replace the new flapper with an other new flapper for free to keep customer happy.

Try lowering the water level in the tank. High efficiency toilets like I have require less water in the tank. Having too much will result in a steady trickle of water into the bowl. I learned this painfully just like you. Curious of the outcome, please let me know.

Just looked at the chain /flapper and chain was in the 2nd position on the metal arm and the flapper slightly askew. Moved the chain hook to the last position and pushed flapper and its fixed the problem. Now I'm just waiting to see if it's not going to start up again. Fingers 🤞 thank-you!

@@irna2000 assuming you got the correct size flapper valve, go to a pool store and buy a tube of magic lube made by Aladdin and smear that on the flapper valve where it seals on the drain opening. It’s an amazing Teflon lubricant.

..if the flapper you have is just starting to leak water (refill is occurring enough for you to notice), replace it with the exact same model you have now to get good results as before ... a 'flapper' worn out after 15 years is due for replacement. So get the same type as just wore out and Do IT Yourself! ... Do NOT hire a plumber! Use the money elsewhere (a plumber call can easily be $100-150 ... )

Dump some OXY clean into your tank and let it sit for about an hour. Should get rid of most of the stains.
