Toilet Cleaning with Dr. Bronner's

Every so often I get the joy of sharing subjects very close to my heart. This is not one of them. How to use Dr. Bronner’s products to clean toilets is a common question I get, and hopefully a regular task for all of us.
Methods
There is more than one way to do this. Do you prefer Sal Suds? Castile Soap? Pick whichever method, whichever product you like best and gets the task behind you.
To begin with, if you’d like, turn off the water to the bowl and empty with a flush. This is entirely optional. Many household toilets have a valve at the wall that you can twist. Emptying the bowl lets the cleaner sit on the walls of the bowl without being diluted in the water.
Method 1: Make an All-Purpose Spray with Dr. Bronner’s Castile Soap (1/4 c. [60 mL] in a quart [1 L] of water) or Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds Biodegradable Cleaner (1 Tbsp. [15 mL] in a quart [1 L] of water) with 20 drops Tea Tree essential oil (optional). Spray the bowl thoroughly and brush with a toilet brush.
Method 2: Squirt a very small amount of the undiluted Castile Soap or an even smaller amount of the Sal Suds directly on to the toilet bowl brush. Brush the bowl thoroughly.
Boost for Methods 1 or 2: For extra scrubbing, sprinkle baking soda onto your toilet brush before scrubbing.
Method 3: Science up a batch of GIY Soft Scrub with the Castile Soap. Squirt that around the bowl, under the rim and brush well. Find the GIY Soft Scrub recipe on my website: www.lisabronner.com/giy-soft-...
Whichever method you choose, once you brush the bowl, let cleaner sit there for about 10 minutes for maximum effectiveness. Then give the bowl a final scrub, turn the water back on if you turned it off, and flush.

I clean homes and some of my clients only like green products. An infallible way to clean the bathtub and leave it like new is to put in a spray bottle with water 1 tablespoons of Sal Suds, 10 drops each of tea tree and orange essential oils, baking soda and a magic eraser to scrub. I'm telling you, the tub looked as if I used bleach. It was white and sparkly! Same method for the ceramic sink and bowl, just use a bowl brush instead. I use this spray in both kitchens and bathrooms. It's also very effective to clean floors, baseboards, doors and door frames, light switches. It can also be used to clean mirrors and windows. I have two bottles of sal suds thinking I was going to ran out of it quick but I was wrong, I haven't even make a dent on the first bottle. Its half full and I make this cleaner very very often.

Sal Suds frees us a lot of real estate in the cabinet. It is super concentrated so it has a small foot print plus It replaces everything else. Its a minimalist dream cleaner. Hot water + Sal Suds = wonderful healthy fragrance = fun time cleaning

I just love this and learned something new! I already use your your liquid almond scented soap as my body wash. I also used it as a cleaner to get off stains on the carpet and it worked great. I also use your baby soap bar to wash my face and remove every trace of makeup. Now I will use the liquid like you said to clean my toilets! What a great tip and video. I have been using the almond scented one since my discovery of Dr. Bronner's liquid soap, but after I found out from Lisa that the peppermint is their best seller I will give that a try after I finish my current bottle. I am so thankful for Dr. Bronner for coming up with these natural soaps and sharing it to the world as these helped me solve my skin irritations before from the harmful ingredients from conventional soaps I used to shower with. I wouldn't recommend them mixing because vinegar is a base and both baking soda and Castile soap are bases so they cancel eachother out.

@@julieluckey3559 Hi Julie- Under normal circumstances vinegar causes Castile soap to unsaponify and turn into a goopy mess. However, in the GIY Soft Scrub recipe, the baking soda is more readily available than the soap, so the vinegar chooses to react with that first. But, if you have too much vinegar, it’s going to use up the baking soda and then move on to the soap. That’s why the ratio is so important.

What about mineral buildup? We had so much mineral buildup that we had to buy an acid cleaner. The toilet was clogging. Can any of these cleaners take care of that problem?

I don't want to think about it. I live in an apartment building. As an apartment dweller, I am very aware of what I do that might effect others and vice a versa. So, my bathroom drains backed up. Not my fault, its caused by my neighbor who shares the drain pipe to the building's stack pipe. I don't want to think about it. The floor of my shower is a bio-hazard. The wonderful guys are still working on fixing the problem, and all of that brown bio-hazard stuff is just sitting on my shower floor which is made up of lovely tiny marble tiles. Lots of tiles, lots of grout for things to stick to. I don't want to think about it. The windows are wide open and the doors are closed. I don't want to think about it. But eventually, I will have to clean that floor. What can be SEEN will be rinsed down the drain by the guys, but what CAN'T be seen, that's my problem. I will spray my Dr. Bonner's General Spray Cleaner with it's Tea Tree essential oil all over the floor, rinse with the shower sprayer & repeat. I'll do that until I feel safe, and then I'll use the spray cleaner and a scrub brush. Then I'll leave the spray on for a while and then rinse. It will smell clean and actually be clean!
