Thanks so much!!! The plumber wanted to charge me $180 "emergency fee" to come out on a Friday afternoon- in ADDITION to whatever he would have charged to do the "work". I'm really proud that I did this all by myself (at 68 years old and female- my first "plumbing repair"). Really empoweriing. Think I'll take that $$$$ and go get a nice myself a nice mani/pedi or 3.

Thank you! It was all about the angle 📐, when the lever wasn’t downward, there wasn’t enough torque to lift the chain

Thank you. It's nice to know the nut is reverse threaded. I won't say why...but I should have watched your video before trying to loosen my handle...just saying.
@par64guy Жыл бұрын
I am glad the video helped. Yes, those reverse threads can be tricky! But in this case, think of why. When the lever is pushed, the torque on that nut could rotate the lever shaft clockwise within the nut and unscrew a traditional "lefty loosey" thread.

Thank you! My review of the universal replacement is only 4 out of 5 stars as it seems a bit clunky. But, it works!

removing the nut is impossible, it's stuck What do we do now?

will probably have to buy a new tank

Remember that it is opposite - rightie loosey, lefty tighty.

@@par64guy finally pried it loose, but I can't get the new locking nut loose. It turns with a lot of force but doesn't come loose. The locknut won't screw off the lever mount. It keeps turning, but doesn't screw off. It doesn't matter which way I turn the locknut. It just won't come off.
@malikalikesmusic Жыл бұрын
just returned the item and got a replacement. The locking nut will unscrew.

How about emptying the tank first😑

@@par64guy it's the locknut--unthreading the locknut--it's like it's frozen on. Yours just easily came off and this one is STUCK.

Bleach! 1 cup in the back of the tank and it would be clean and don't add toilet cleaner
@par64guy Жыл бұрын
EEK! I despise bleach. They used chlorine in WWI to kill people. But, I will try some of the nontoxic disinfectant I use to see if that works.

Turn the water off at the toilet first.

What fun is that? ;) I did mention turning off the water, but because this was such a quick fix, I figured wet hands were no biggie. I show turning off the water on my other video where I have to replace the whole valve assembly.

I don't typically worry about what the inside of the tank looks like, and for a 20 year-old toilet, it's not too bad! That and the other occupants in the house were impatient and wanted me out of the bathroom!
