Great video! When I was in Jerusalem at the time, I ate and drank deliciously there and relieved myself wonderfully! So I'm glad I was able to leave something of myself there. I'm Dutch and one of the slang words for urine is 'pies' and that sounds like peace or piece... Btw: the essence of the Christian faith is 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

I came here from your recent personal video at Tel Gezer. One thing that strikes me about ancient history is realizing that even though our modern lives seem different, the people of old laughed, cried, and needed to eat, sleep, and relieve themselves just like we do. I can tell from the practical, educational, and humorous details throughout this video that you are a quality tour guide, Oren. The city of Jerusalem (especially the Old City) is a place dear to my heart, but I had not heard about or seen the public toilet in the Church of the Holy Sepulchre, so thanks for this tour. I appreciate how you say that peace will not come by dramatic actions of rulers or wars or government edicts, but simply by people meeting each other in the midst of basic life. We all need hope for peace, now more than ever.

@@idaselinahobbs9031 - This is totally important. 1. Water: Here in Germany I gave some American travellers some juice, because they had no water any more and underestimated the heat here in east Germany in the summer. We have here no wells or some public drinking-water sources. Here in my tiny village we have a shop where you can buy beverage, but not at the weekend. 2. Toilet: You can go in the wide areas of the woods or the grassland here on the natural toilet, but if you are in the city, then this could be a real problem. In the city here, there are no public toilets, so you have to go into the Hotel/Restaurant, even if you do not have a room there and do not eat there. There is no other possibility.

@@Travelingisraelinfo Hi, Oren! I’m going to share this video with a guy I know who is volunteering as a medic in Ukraine. When he travels and visits new places, he loves to show us the toilet and give it a rating. If you are interested in checking him out, his name is Brandon Mitchell and he has a KZbin channel. He was born in Canada but has lived on six different continents, so his accent might sound a little bit Irish, according to some people. He’s a very honest guy, but a bit unfiltered sometimes. He believes he should tell the truth, because the truth will set you free! I really appreciate him putting his life on the line to save the lives of others! The only thing about this video is you really only showed us one physical toilet, in the King David Hotel- even though you walked into or through other bathrooms. So that’s got me wondering, does the men’s bathroom only have sinks and urinals in some places, and no actual toilet where you could sit?🤔I was wondering if any of the bathrooms in Jerusalem have the kind of hole in the floor Asian style toilets, where people squat? I’m just curious! 🤷🏻♀️ But thanks for doing this video, and I especially appreciate the commentary you share along the way! 💙🙏🏽💙🖖🏼🇮🇱💪🏽🕊🪔

In '96 I and my 6 months pregnant wife were in Jerusalem, we stopped in to a nice little restaurant outside the Herod Gate. We were seated upstairs (where the restroom was also) and had great meal. The entry to the room had a low lintel and upon leaving I walked right into it and smacked my forehead loud enough for the workers downstairs to hear it (it also left an impression of the hat I was wearing on my forehead 😆)! I was a bit stunned, the guys had me sit down to make sure I was okay (I was). My wife goes to the restroom and after a bit I'm wondering why she hasn't come out when she says the door is jammed, the doorknob came off and she can't get out!! This starts a big concern to the staff as it's a small restroom and it's warm and there's no AC. They try all kinds of things to get the door open and after 10 minutes or so decide to take the doorknob off and start on the screws. Well, the door is opened and there's my wife with screws in her hand! She'd used a fingernail file to remove the plate and open the door!! Everyond was very relieved!! And we got an extra glass of Coke on the house!! 😂 That's our Jerusalem toilet story!!! 5:01 ... I think I recognize that door ... iirc it's on the upper level and it leads to the small Ethiopian "village" that resides there. On one of my visits I rounded a corner and there was an Ethiopian Copt leaning against the door rhythmically slapping it and calling out presumably to be let in. I watched for quite a while but no one came! 8:01 ... at the entrannce to the church on the upper region there's a ladder that's been in place since the late 1800's placed there by a monk without the authority to do so and none of the other sects will agree on taking it down! 😆 It's amazing anything gets done, let alone toilets, at all! My wife and I just concluded 11 years of a seasonal (June) archaeological dig in Israel and so won't likely be returning 😢 so our Israel experience will now be via videos, excellent videos like yours!!

Toilets are somewhere that we ALL have to use, wherever we go in the world. So, they are the most important to talk about. Not knowing about them can be very stressful and difficult. I have had many difficulties because of toilets. In Isreal, I was so surprised that I had to pay to use the public toilets and that they had no paper! We received the paper when paying! So, thank you so much. We probably don't talk about them, because we are ashamed or something, but whoever we are, we MUST pee and poo!
