I’d love to see a spreadsheet or chart that lists all the knots and the recommended wraps or turns for each line type and strength.

For Fluorocarbon, the strongest knot is the AG Chain knot. You only have to pass thru the hook eye or swivel twice and not three times. The first half hitches go thru that loop and what happens when you do destructive testing with a line tester, the main line actually pulls up on that loop and not constrict it. You only need 5-7 set of alternating half hitches. For example, in a twice thru chain knot, pass thru swivel twice and pass tag end under or over the main line(under if your main line is at the bottom and over if your main line is at the top of the loop) and thru the loop. After you do this, just slight tension to keep that half hitches tight to the swivel. Now start with alternating half hitches. I like to start by going over the top of the main line and having the tag end appears at the bottom of the half hitches. Then the next one is under the main line. Repeat 5-7 times and then finish with a twice thru half hitch to lock it down. Here's the number with two popular brand of line that you probably have access to down under: Seaguar Invizx 25 lbs and Yozuri Top Knot 25 lbs. For Seaguar Invizx 25 lbs, the actual unknotted strength is 29 lbs. The Palomar knot broke at 18.38 lbs, the Toit knot broke at 19.38 lbs, the Benjamin knot(closed loop bimini twist) broke at 27.48 lbs, and the 7 set AG chain knot(14+1 finishing half hitch) breaks at 28.31 or 98 % knot strength. For Yozuri Top Knot 25 lbs, the actual breaking strength is 27.49 lbs. Palomar 18.06 = 66%, Double Palomar 19.62/27.49 = 72%. The AG chain knot with 7 set broke at 27.32 and the AG chain knot with 5 set broke at 26.81. Both are better than 98%. For Fluorocarbon, the AG chain knot does the least damage and if you zoom in on it during destructive testing, you will see why it works so well. It is a non constrictive knot. Follow the tension on the main line. It goes thru the chain but there is no tension on the tag end to cut the main line. So the main line goes thru the hook eye twice and up the alternating chain that actually expands and allows the main line to reach full strength before eventually breaking. Unlike your other youtube testers, I also have the ability to test unknotted strength of a line sample so my percentage is correct, not some bogus untested 100% knot strength claim without actually knowing what the line actual breaking strength is.

Warren, Hello from Long Island, NY. I just watched a video where the improved clinch that what is tied on a hook using Fluorocarbon line. I did not brake, it had merely slipped through the hook. I’m fishing braided line with a swivel, I used The improved clinch knot to attach my leader. After watching your video I, will definitely give it a try and see how it works.
@toitfishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Marc, thanks for watching and thanks for reaching out. The improved clinch knot is probably not the best knot to use for braid. You need to use many wraps and the tuck thru is fairly specific, I have explained this on my Improved clinch knot How to Video series. The Toit knot is basically an overwrapped improved clinch knot with a mid tuck under the eyelet wraps, similar to a Trilene knot where the tuck goes thru at end of Trilene. The direction of the eyelet wrap to the initial wraps is really important too.

How are you getting on with the Toit Knot? Tightlines
@andressoria6723 жыл бұрын
I have spend about 1 year trying different knots for hooks swivels, main line (braided line) to leaders (mono and FC) and pretty much settled down on the knots (PR for braid to leader), improved uni for braid and will give this knot a try fro hooks and swivels as I used FC most if not all the time. One question, I am a vertical jigger and wondering if this knot can be used for the jigs? I think it should be as the leader will absorb the pull...thoughts? 😀

Yeah I would use it for all your terminal Tackle. I would also look for an alternative line to line just in case fish running and you need to get something tied fast. @zebman92282 жыл бұрын
Shouldn't this actually be named the improved Trilene. The Trilene is the main guts of the Toit knot. Just changed the finish to help the tag end not slipping through under very high tension. GREAT JOB.
@toitfishing2 жыл бұрын
Hi Zebman, Well technically anything tied with a Clinch knot derivative could be an improved clinch knot of which there are many many knots. There may be one or two similarities to the Trilene (Double Loop at eyelet with tuck) but the two knots are very different. the secret to the Toit knot is the tuck under in the middle of the over wrapped clinch knot, whereas the Trilene is not over wrapped and the tuck is at end of knot. I guess I wanted to call it the Toit Knot.
@fishing4fun4733 жыл бұрын
Curious to see how it ties with my 100 lbs mono. I always find the trilene knot hard to tie with heavier line and this has more wraps...
@toitfishing3 жыл бұрын
For Mono if you just do 3 up and 3 down. Use 4 on braid up and down. I use it on all my shark fishing, some of my line shy rigs are tied with 400lb Momoi mono leader and it actually cinches up really well. Be interested to hear how you get on. Just remember the direction of the wrap around eyelet is important relative to the other wraps. Tightlines.

I learned this knot today. Going to fish it exclusively across all line types this spring and see how it stacks up against my old favorites. Always looking for the best knot possible. I’ll let you know when I have some results.

Hi Micah Williams, thanks for the feedback and thanks for taking the time to view the videos. I would appreciate any feedback on the knot and actually any feedback on the videos also. My testing videos do take a while to get all the data for the testing, hence I have only done a few knots at the moment there are about 27 Terminal Knots on my to do list so I will hopefully get around to testing all these knots, so its more than likely the leaderboard may change at some point especially when we look at a the double configurations to many knots. Good Luck with the Toit Knot, looking forward to your feedback. Tightlines and let us know how you get on in Spring.

@@toitfishing I fished with the Toit knot a lot over the last year. The toit performed well. However, some time ago I discovered the Miller knot. The Miller knot has many of the same features of the Toit but I find it easier to tie and that it tightens down more consistently and uniformly. I have also found the Miller knot to be stronger than the Toit and every other knot I've tested. Including the palomar, pitzen, san diego jam, clinch, improved clinch, trilene, and many more. Overall, I commend your efforts with the toit knot and I can appreciate our shared interest in fishing knots.

I have been using the Toit knot since seeing this video just after it was released on mostly my swivels and trace connections. I am curious to find out how the Toit knot will perform against the snell knot for a hook connection, and more specifically to a circle hook. I found that the snell knot is unparalleled in perfect hook sets with a circle hook and the snell knot has never failed me. Any comments, data or opinions about this statement? I would love to hear or see a video from you with the data. Have a lekker day!
@toitfishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Martin, Glad you are using the Toit Knot. I am as we speak testing the Albright Knot and just finished the Blood Knot so I am hoping to do a few more line to line connections and then was hoping to introduce some loop Knots. But I do like requests :) So I may get the Snell Knot in before going back to Loop Knots. I do like the Snell Knot and agree its a good knot. I think one of the shortfalls to the snell under extreme load might be the quality of the eyelet detail particularly the deburring of the end of the hook wire. If for instance you left some slack on the Mono or Fluoro and it was aloud to creep backwards and bight into this area of the eyelet it may cut into the line. I am eager to get this knot tested and it would be good to see how it behaves in a controlled environment. It would also be good to see it on one of these really expensive braised eye hooks, It may turn out to be really really good. Traditionally I only tie Snell knots on Snell hooks with the bent eyelet but I have seen many people tie it on just about any hook. It might be worth expanding this when I look at testing the knot as it will depend a lot on the type and quality of the wire also. Tight Lines and have a lekker day!

Is it possible that this is the strongest knot that can be tied for 10-15 pound mono? 99+% is craziness. Especially for a relatively easy to tie knot.
@toitfishing2 жыл бұрын
Evening Desert Rain, possibly yes and no. I think it will take me a lifetime to test all the knots to this standard so there may be another I have not got to test yet. On lighter lines many knots perform in the high 90's especially on anything 10 lb and less. The lines are just so much more supple and can cope with all the bending and twisting within the geometry of the knot. I would say this the Bimini Twist on Mono is hard to beat, actually I have never had it break anywhere near the knot. The Toit Knot for simplicity will be hard to beat also. Its really hard for me being too biased to this knot as I want to stay unbiased as possible, but this knot really delivers in all respects. I think over time 10-15 years this knot will certainly gain momentum and as more adopt it in their fishing endeavors I think it will eventually come out on top, well that's my gut feeling and opinion. Tightlines and thx for your continued support

I have tried a coke, fanta, fanta grape and tea. Next is your knot...... a quick question can you use your knot to tie a leader to your main line?
@toitfishing3 жыл бұрын
Hi William, unfortunately not. One of the hidden secrets to the knot is this tuck under the wraps at the hook eyelet or the swivel eyelet. It has a similar technique to the Trilene knot on this aspect of the knot and what gives it an edge. This detail would be difficult to replicate when joining two pieces of line to create this locking ability. If I ever find a way I will let you know 1st :) Oh that is the best way with fishing also try everything, you never know how good something new may be or how bad for that matter, I do love Fanta Grape tho.....Tightlines and let me know how you get on?

@gd-ov9do10 ай бұрын
How can a knot be over 100% of the line’s strength? Like Toit shows he measures the true line strength not what the manufacturer has on the label. Therefore the Knot Wars results are inaccurateand irrelevant.
