I think the makarov has a heel mag release so the user doesn't accidentally lose a mag when using the provided tactical lanyard.

That is the idea. Not great for quick mag changes but definitely better for mag retention.

Have owned and fired both the Mak and the CZ82. Eventually sold the Mak, as it just beat the living tar out of my hands when fired. Still own and love both my CZ82s.

romania and checholovakia were actually soviet. i guess when you say soviet makarov you actually mean russian makarov

The USSR is Soviet. There were Soviet bloc countries which were soviet controlled but I don’t use the same terms for them. Czechoslovakia was independent enough to design and make its own pistols and rifles.
