This clip captures the demonstration of Tokimune Takeda, Daito-ryu Aikijujutsu Headmaster, at a Kobudo demonstration in Tokyo in 1985. Tokimune Sensei performs a number of advanced Daito-ryu techniques and saves the finale for a spectacular display!

I have been a student of Aikijutsu since 1990. It drives me crazy when crap like this is promoted. Our school gave many public demonstrations, none of them were ever like this nonsense. True Aikijutsu (which I have no doubt Takeda knows) is viscious, brutal, and extremely effective. Our school (before unfortunately disbanding) usually had a maximum of 15 students. People would join, get hurt because it is afterall learning to fight, then drop out. Broken ribs, noses, fingers, dislocations, and concussions were normal. Hence traditional Aikijutsu isnt really a commercially viable form of martial arts. I've been fortunate enough to train with Bernie Lau, Neil Yamamoto, and one of Bernie's high ranking students Phil Pederson.

It's very sad. Aikijujitsu and Aikido have such an array of excellent techniques which performed with power and precision are very effective. To see some demo like this is truly a shame.

i am starting to think that Aiki-jūjutsu never was the greatest martial art as we used to think... Sokaku Takeda had siad - "The secret of aiki is to overpower the opponent mentally at a glance and to win without fighting"... how can you win a professional fighter at a glance... i am not able to imagine Sokaku Takeda winning Fabricio Werdum or Cain Velasquez at a glance

About the last one, everytime I see something this, it raises two questions for me: 1. How the hell it is possible? (I won't buy ki magic) 2. Those who can do that for real, why they don't go with this skill to a BJJ tournament or even to the Judo Olympics, and win some gold medals with a ton of money to partonage and promote their organization?

Great fame....Great troubles.... Sports need no permanent winner.betting Maria's don't allow it. Then....a school of tradition...doesn't necessary need much much attention and all that.... Then we all know..there is no permanent top in the world... Arts are there for practitioners ers to develop their selves...and protect their body in order to fulfill their destination y...mission...ETC. Ring sports..are different and we all appreciate that difference....FROM life and death combat.

Just think it wasn't until the 90's anyone ever heard of Brazilian JiuJitsu. Where there might be a kalaripauttu professional or Kung Fu specialist never heard of but can fight as well, but respects these things having been given to him.
