Dino is just deeply entrenched into the scene. You would think as a viewer and long time reader one would get used to it, but it still blows my mind. Thank you for providing the content you do in the way that you do. No one else does it in this style. The laid back and chill approach to the presentation (by comparison) is just a breath of fresh air from most other car content on the web right now.

Gems such as Mine's R34, Tom's TRD A80 Supra and Amemiya's FD RX7 really reminds diehards the golden era of JDM tuning and culture, it's classic and doesn't get old for sure! I'm pretty sure the Garaiya is based on the TommyKaira ZZ-S, not a Lotus Elise (although the UK production facility employed many ex-Lotus engineers). It was related to Autobacs buying TommyKaira's ailing sports car arm, including rebranding the ZZ-II prototype as the RS01 until their plans to build both cars (RS01+Garaiya) fell through. *Also,* a company in Kyoto (GLM) brought back the ZZ chassis in ~2015 with permission from those who now own the TommyKaira IP, so there is a ZZ-EV produced in small numbers and that Garaiya is probably based on a recent ZZ-EV build.

The Garaiya wasn't based on the Elise, it actually was a completely original car. This one is likely the one converted at the Osaka Sangyo University many years ago, unless Autobacs made a new conversion from another prototype. Some of the prototypes still occasionally appear at some Autobacs stores, I want to see one in person one day
@dino_dc11 ай бұрын
I drove one of the few prototypes back in 2003 and pretty sure ASL told media it was loosely based on the Elise chassis. The SR in it was the VE variant. No idea if the EV is the same one that was built back in the day
@dusk33r11 ай бұрын
@@dino_dc I haven't seen any mention of the Elise being the base chassis in the reviews and promotional material that I have found. It is pretty much a successor to the Tommykaira ZZ, so I assumed it was designed and built the same way. Cool that you got to drive one!
