I went to Nippori about 4 - 5 years ago during the spring and just so happens they're having a spring sale there! I speak very little Japanese but everyone is very nice and helpful. Definitely a must-visit for anyone interested in fabrics, crafts, etc!

Wow! I love that you were so successful in your fabrics. The colors are so delicious. I was introduced to Japanese fabrics and sewing supplies about 10 years ago. And now I have found your channel. I hope to travel to Japan to go to the fabric district. Of course I will need to ship everything home to the States or buy another suitcase. Of which I have done a few times. Love your channel and hope you continue to introduce us all to proper Japanese dress and why clothing is designed the way it is. Very practical. Thank you Billy.

STUNNING shops! My hands are itching to get some of the stuff to just make fun stuff with! Quick thing: I live in the heart of the Fabric Area of Sweden and the Tokyo shops makes the local and next door area shops look truly utterly boring! Only way for me to get some more spectacular prints and so on, is to buy kimono with blemishes. It has helped me to get some amazing patterned pieces to work with. ;-D I know, different culture, design ideas etc. But as a crafter and maker the sheer patterning and weaves I spotted were so awesome! Thank you for bringing us along, it was such a treat!

When toes hurt I shift to Birkenstock thongs. Do care for that toe! Loved it I wish to see more of Nippori. Where do you find silk thread, traditional Japanese needles, Fabric for obi, etc...

I’ll put that kind of stuff in my next v-log… just: I buy silk thread at my sewing school… 🙈 and real kimono fabrics for kimono and obi should be bought at a kimono store or second hand kimono store. I would not recommend Nippori for that.

You could make an small purse w "the scraps" It could be very simple, even hidden-atached to the kimono or a more formal with bamboo handles...

I would LOSE MY MIND trying to choose which fabrics to buy since I can not afford to buy them all! I can easily spend all day (literally!) in a small fabric store viewing, feeling, & draping fabrics. Nippori and Ueno were my favourite neighbourhoods! I went to that store you bought the Shiba fabric many times and sent lots of fat quarters (the "scraps") to my mom for quilting! You can make little bags or pouches with those fabrics, then you can enjoy them all the time!

Such a nice haul! I really enjoy the street recording too, as if I’m in Tokyo. I wish i can go there soon when everything’s open again. As for the fabric scraps: maybe you can make wrist pin cushion with it? Evelyn Wood has a nice tutorial for it, consisting all materials that can be obtained from thrift stores. It’s just an idea, though!

Such a nice video!! I, too love going to cloth stores just to touch fabric and get inspired! I also think that it is better to understand what you are dealing with. You showed so many gorgeous fabrics. I would have totally bought the inu one!! Few ideas for the tiny coupon you bought: - a Teru teru bōzu to offer or to hang at your place, thus you will always be able to watch the cute fabric! - a meishi "box"/container: when I carry them with me, I can also tuck it inside my obi! - a bookcase, basically a wrap for your book to get carried, for which you can find 100s of tutorials online. Many thanks for the video! I am already expecting the next one XD

Those smaller pieces could look good in a patchwork, which would also increase the amount of usable fabric you'd get from them, if they're too small to make a practically sized bag out of on their own, and you can use up some fabric scraps from other peojects.

This was such a fun video! I'd love to visit there some day - though I could see myself getting overwhelmed by all the amazing fabrics pretty quickly! 😅 For your small pieces, you could make a new kimono SOS bag, wrap the straps of geta/zori, kanzashi, headbands, a headscarf (I forget the name of the one you showed in a previous video), a pincushion, a pillow for your hedgehog, a new little helper tab for your nagajuban, or even just cute patches to sew onto things :)
