Awesome vid as usual mate!!! With the bad choke out. Old school judo books have the legs lifting thing. If you've low blood pressure it makes sense to try and force some blood into the brain. Otherwise it's unnecessary. When you hear someone who goes out start to snore, they're actually swallowing their tongue. Lying then on their back is the last thing you want. The modern way to treat an unconscious player is to turn them sideways into the standard first aid recovery position.

That referee needs some training. She was out for a long long time, coming from someone who has done BJJ for quite a few years. Low key disturbing that the referee didn't notice even though her face seems totally visible to him

Really good point on clearing the leg - when watching at full speed again after seeing clearing the leg, you do feel like he wouldn't have kept going back unless it was to counter... Definitely didn't look like that the first time round but great breakdown!

Even if he cleared the leg, he still doesn't have any control. If he made a step in between to stop the movement to initiate a new attack I'd have given him the score, but so, for me, it is a clear score for Heydarov.

@@Ppharrer96 I agree. I watched it several times in slow motion and it seems clear, that even though Lombardo got his leg clear, nevertheless it was Heydarov's action that put Lombardo on his back.

At least statistically I think Deguchi has proven this year that she's the best choice for -57 over Klimkait. Reigning world champion, and a winning record over Klimkait, and now the Tokyo GS...what else does she need to do?

Judokas and Judo refs seems to have a big issue with awareness regarding the ground game. They know some ground but a bit dumb about it too... sorry to say it like that. It's also from my own experience doing BJJ and Judo.

blood flows by gravity. the act of lifting the leg is to allow more blood, i.e. oxygen to flow to the brain. So it is a typical & quick recovery treatment for this.

I think if Lombardo did his uranage after Heydarov's drop, it would be a new attack, not a counter (similarly the way they counter drop techniques with sutemi waza), but that kouchi makikomi was a new attack and Lombardo started his technique as a counter, so he couldn't use his back to make the throw count. At the same time, Heydarov lost the control (partially the leg that Lombardo cleared), so shouldn't have been a score for him either.

Again, not immediately stopping the fight when the player is obviously unresponsive is APPALLING. It's the person's brain cells we are talking about. Stupid rule of the ref standing there like an idiot, not checking on the wellbeing of the fighters. I don't appreciate the work of the 2 medics not assisting the patient either. This is really screwed up: people could have hypoxic seizures, need ventilatory support, experience incontinence, life-long neurologic sequelae... IF/WHEN she wakes up from her coma, I hope she sues the shorts off the IJF for this disgraceful crap! Mark my words: Somebody will eventually NOT wake up from this sh!t.

Good compilation as always. But I don't agree with your opinion on shimewaza situation at 9:23. I think if you was in this position as white judoka you have to get ippon and to win and you must not worry about the referee and your opponent. And don't forget that Uki was Taimazova in this situation. And she don't tap out in these situations...Look her semifinal contest in Olympic Games 2020 against Arai. She was completely out as here...Any tap out as here. Therefor I think it was mainly Taimazova's fault that she was completely out again.

Ref it always will be responsible for the carry on of the match , but it’s understandable that IJF , won’t focus on newaza situations . But unfortunately that takes away a huge amount of knowledge from both sides , athletes and the organization itself that promotes the sport this way , hope that the athlete is okay, but the amount of time she spend out could cause a serious damage with no oxygen in her brain . All that is due the miss of knowledge into newaza(jiujitsu) techniques and situations 🥋✊

The best method to help someone regain conciousness is to sit them up into the "recovery position". Holding the feet up is a backwards practice. The body is intelligent enough to divert blood away from your limbs and towards the brain or heart on it's own if neccesary, hence the reason people get frostbite and end up losing a foot.....

Chadi, first, thank you very much for your work and dedication! really appreciated. Now, re Lambardo vs Heydarov. In my view Lambardo should not indeed get any score. kzbin.info/www/bejne/eJnMf6l_rNapY6M Why is this so common in Judo though. In other combat sports the ref will usually stop it immediately when the player is unconscious. Does there need to be a rule change that allows the ref to get closer to the action when a choke hold is applied? I think player safety should be higher priority than the ref looking dignified!
@JudoHighlights2015

Not sure why you linked the video, but I think it’s a compliance issue. Judo referees travel all over the world and they don’t want some law suit against them in some random country.

@@JudoHighlights2015 Oh the link should be time stamped to where you were discussing this. You mentioned that the Judoka should have signaled the ref earlier and I agree, but also think it would be better if the ref were able to spot when a player is out buy moving closer to the action when a choke hold is applied. I see unconscious players left too long quite often in Judo.
