Jim can you interview the workers there and ask them how it goes in maintaining the older machines like when a CRT break stull like that .

CRTs don’t last forever, I have a dying Sony PVM 20L2MD, it needs a tube rejuvenation to get some more contrast and life back, how do they even keep these going in the world of LCDs?
@rsmith022 жыл бұрын
@@chronology556 I doubt they do based on seeing arcades in Japan- some tubes are on the way out and it shows. Maybe they swap out CRTs from lesser-used units as many of the cabs are standardized but I don't think there are new CRTs being added.
@chronology5562 жыл бұрын
@@rsmith02 so eventually, they need to make some lagless 4:3 LCDs to fit into the cabinets, huh?
@rsmith022 жыл бұрын
@@chronology556 I suppose, if the arcades themselves last that long. Not sure LCDs support the low resolutions these older games use so it may look really bad even if it works.

I tend to watch a lot of their live streams, usually it's fighting games being used for tournaments, and sometimes it's Tokimeki Memorial Taisen Puzzle Dama being played. They recently did a couple days in a row of Vampire Savior, and one of their other channels does either Big Tetris tournaments, or Virtua Fighter ones. They do have a third KZbin channel as well.

It's so nice to have new CRT screens. The retro arcade near me everything is faded and more blurry. Just a regular dude trying to make it work, so I understand everything can't be perfect.

Hey Jim, off-topic question but I'm somewhat new to buying Japanese hardware. I recently bought a super famicom and an additional sfc controller from 2 different import shops here in China. The console seemed to check out, and the seller seemed knowledgeable in their write up. However I noticed a strange inconsistency between the controllers I received from the 2 different sellers. The controller that came with the console had engraved shoulder buttons with no silk screen (everything else seems fine) it is also in comparatively better shape than the other controller I purchased. The second controller has silk screened buttons, and some of the moulding on the back panel (Nintendo and model number) seems different, the confusion comes with this being the more substantially worn in controller. I may be crazy but even the ridged cable protector at the end of each controller seem to have minorly different molding (millimeters off in length). Are there multiple different variations of the 005 sfc controller? Could one of them have button swaps? Is one of them an incredibly impressive counterfeit? Any help would be much appreciated!
@vintagegamer8892 жыл бұрын
My SNES is back in the States so I would compare moulding differences and button feel with those if I could. I would even say the d-pad on the better shape controller feels a bit more shallow? I'd just be surprised that this was the shop to send a fake considering the 1chip sfc I got from them is very legit, and the seller is clearly importing from Japan (maybe via HK)?
@rsmith022 жыл бұрын
I bought 2 SFC controllers here and noticed the same thing. The non-engraved one appears newer and was likely new old stock. The other just used and it's in worse condition.
