In Korean cuisine Natto is usually mixed with chili peppers and kimchi and then is mashed into a paste that is added to many different dishes, or it can be used as a spread, or even just eaten on its own.

i tried natto for the first time in japan and loved it! now i buy it in the states and have it every week for breakfast haha. i personally love the texture, that's the thing that made me want to try it the most when i saw videos of people eating it.

I recently tried out Natto for the first time myself. My first thoughts were "Was everyone just exaggerating for the camera?" I actually kinda liked it! I've come to understand that it's a pretty polarizing dish, you pretty much either like it or you don't. I do gotta say, I'd like to try that dried natto. I wonder where I could try to look for it.

I recently also tried natto here in the US. There’s a Japanese grocery store nearby. I had an aversion to trying it at first until I saw another TC play video where they said nebaneba also describes the sliminess of okra, which I enjoy. It was double the price that Chris said, $1.28, and I think that it was on sale too. I tried two kinds. I really enjoyed the first one I tried which had umeboshi on the label (don’t know if it was supposed to be umeboshi flavored.) I think the second one I tried was a typical kind with the mustard. The mustard is *REALLY* strong. So I just didn’t put it in the natto next time. I attest to the natto being good with different toppings! I had it with cheese and Cholula and it and it quite good.

I tried natto in Japan and thought it was ok, it's basically just fermented soy beans,so it has a strong salty, rich flavour. It's just the gloopy, slimy coating that is the real offputter, definitely an acquired taste.

Natto is a great product. It's made by fermenting soybeans with Bacillus Subtilis, which makes nutrients in the beans easy to process, and is in itself a probiotic culture. If I were in Japan, I'd eat it on a daily basis. Sadly, I'm not, and it is rather expensive and hard to get here.

Tip: If you don’t like the taste of natto or the smell when first trying, put a bit of sugar and no mustard over it to make it more palatable. Add less sugar over time and one might eventually be used to natto

Guys! When I was at Shibuya, I tried this nato roll I found at 7/11. I ended up vomiting a lot at the airport and plane. Is this normal, or did I happen to get a faulty product?

I only got to try natto once, but I was unfortunately getting sick while traveling so my appetite was really low and I couldn’t eat too much. I think I remember I liked it pretty well, but I wish I could try it again properly (same for takoyaki- I was so nauseous and in pain when I bought some but I was determined to try it and the flavor was great but my body was rebelling against me)

You can have natto hot or cold. I prefer it cold, because it seems to be less pungent. But, it all comes down to personal preference.

I must be weird, i'm European and i don't mind the taste of it, especially with a bit of soy sauce and/or over rice. It's usually the smell and texture (slimey and sticky) that puts people off. I also tried surstromming, that's a different story entirely...

I just had natto for $3.50 USD for 3 packages, Is not "delicious", but is not horrible like everyone says, I had a bit of trouble finishing the package tho... Imagine soft coffee beans, with soy sauce, and that's what it taste like, bitter. The texture is not bad, the slime is not noticeable while chewing.

I recently tried natto because people either love or hate it so I had to see for myself. I added all the sauces and some fresh green onions like EmmyMadeinJapan recommended. The taste wasn't bad at all but the consistency..... Oh GOD the consistency!! It felt like I was chewing on leftover food bits I had vomited up mixed with boogers. I wanted to like it, I really did, but I threw up after the first bite lol just seeing the slimy strings from the chopsticks to Chris's mouth made me almost puke again! I am interested in trying the other versions that weren't slimy to see if I like that more.

I have no idea if you'd want to give it another chance, but I figured I'd put this out there since it might make the experience better for others who want to try it for the first time or try it again.. If the taste and odor don't bother you at all but the sliminess does, then I'd try mixing the natto into the rice. That's what I did with slimy foods like natto, tororo, and okura to cut down on the sliminess and avoid getting them on my face. Really, unless you already know that you like natto, I wouldn't suggest that anyone try it on its own or to put a lot on top of rice. Skipping the sauce and mustard would cut down on the sliminess as well. Trying it in onigiri or a sushi roll would avoid the slimy experience too.
