When I heard that people actually lived on Japan's most active volcano, I had to know more. So I decided to spend an entire week there, and find out what life is like. Welcome to Japan's most active volcano, Sakurajima.

So freakin cool! 💖💯 the full 30! Could write you a book about everything I want to comment on.😄. I love that Japan provides information on everything. The shelters become a treasure hunt for where you are in relation to the cone and ahahaha that the memorial stone says don't trust predictions 😅😂. The round lava rocks are a different sort of sea glass that remind me of the PNW, ocean power. Watching you wander through grassy, wooded areas I'm wondering if they have venomous snakes the way Miyajima does? I would've spent an entire day just taking photos of the roots, carvings, torii, even in the rain (find it super soothing). I think the only times I've seen that much rain were typhoon season in Kyoto and here in 2013. Excited for the next adventure. 💜✌🐦

20:45 Every country has their "crazy" cat lady! Although, I found her the most heartwarming and highly interesting since she feeds all the abandoned animals on the island. She reminded me of my own grandmother ;--;

I can’t decide what I like more, the behind the scenes or the documentaries themselves. They’re just so freaking good. The documentaries are always so evocative and the cinematography is 😘👌🏻 and you know I always find my faith in humanity again when I watch them. But… the behind the scenes man… so endearing and wonderful in their own right. I also appreciated the pink cars, the handling of the spider and that work ethic. Fantastic as always! 💖💖💖

When I finally made it to Kagoshima in 2018, I arrived at night and was exhausted, so I got to my hotel room and had my requisite combini dinner before passing out, wondering when I would get a chance to finally see Sakurajima. Waking early to meet new friends, I left the room, stepped out, and looked to my right. There she was, in all her infinite splendor. I was nearly in tears. I was home for the first time in my life.

Amazing how half of the locations looked like they are either from a post apocalyptic video game or straight up out of a Ghibli movie. As sappy as it might sound, you truly are an inspiration. I plan to make my way to Japan with a working holiday visa once the pandemic has calmed down enough and I will definitely explore the country, especially the countryside, in my free time. In fact, I was even thinking about filming it. In case you have any recommendations for an all-purpose camera for beginners, I am all ears since I haven't looked into cameras yet.

I love the Sakurajima ferry. Just enough time to scarf down a bowl of udon from the cafe on the upper deck. In summer they convert one of the ferries to a pleasure cruise, laying out tatami mats on the car decks. People sit drinking beer and eating onigiri while watching a firework display over Kinko Bay.
