It's a creature that doubles your activated abilities that target either a creature or a player and it allows you to pick new targets for the copy, have two creatures you'd like to make balloons of but can only activate your commander once? Not a problem

I agree. I haven't personally wanted any of these commanders for myself, but I HAVE used 3 of these to pass out to people who are new to commander (but play magic). Thrun, ezuri and.. the white blue tokens one. They have yet to flop and always "do the thing" at the very least. Because of that the newer players always get to do something and even if that deck isnt necessarily for them, they see the others too and get inspired. And they're just cheap enough that I'm not worried about something happening to them. I use a $25 budget pet deck that I built in those games to show that you don't have to spend much to play at that level either. Edit: Oh and if you do this, it's really helpful to put the commander in a clear sleeve, rip an index card in half, summarize the game plan on the card and put it in the back of the sleeve. Equip auras and enchantments to thrun. Bonk. Amass permanents with counters on them. Assemble a proliferate engine to make your cards stronger. Fill your hand with ezuris ability. Prof usually gives a great rundown. Just use that.

These videos have just recently inspired me to take a deck building challenge with my roommate to each build a deck with a comparably niche archetype for 20$ or less. I went with Boros vehicles (which is a relatively common color choice for the archetype but vehicles themselves are relatively uncommon) and just finished building it for 18,90€ including even basic lands and the commander (which we before said would not be included in the price). All my cards arrived and I am thrilled to test the deck in our casual rounds soon.

This is one of the most useful videos in a long time! There are plenty of people who do deck walkthroughs of how to upgrade precons, this was WAY better by grabbing an oddball and having fun with it + showing the cheap way to make it (~precon cost but better cards) and/or upgrades and what would specifically come out for styles. Grateful for your walkthroughs of secret lairs so I don’t waste money, for Shuffle Up and Play, and many other things you air on this channel. This is definitely top 3 videos of all time and I hope there is a series(!) of these to come. :)

btw, you can get Blame game, the Boros precon from Murder in Karlov Manor, and drop it in there. The deck is super synergistic with the balloon man.

I have the deck but don't see the synergies in there. The game has not many good etb effects or attack effects on non-legendary creatures ?

@@zorglub105 It has some: There's some crazy ones like solemn or the white titan, It has some token sinergy, some "when it dies" triggers (work on the sacrifice), some "at beggingin of endstep" which you choose the order they go on the stack (the order they trigger), and the 3 (or less) mana value makes it come back multiple times due to some cards in the deck. I forgot to tell you: You can copy legendary creatures and trigger their ETB and "dies" effects, since the legend rule makes you sacrifice one of the cards after they are on the battlefield (you just wont get to attack with it). This isnt important in this deck since the legendaries dont have synergy with this interaction. It's not a deck built around it, it's a precon so effects it will copy arent all the best, but it's a cool card and fits the deck. When I said "super synergisctic" I didnt mean this precon was nuts with it of course, it was hyperbole.

I really love Attack-in-the-Box in this deck. It is a good early/mid game blocker and the token you get is sacrificed at the end of the turn so using it's pump ability to get a 5 attack flyer is a no brainer. It is also uncommon and great for budget builds.

This is one of the cooler legends from Duskmourn in my opinion. I like that it can be built for value or straight combo. And it’s probably got one of the creepier artworks in the set. I’m here for it.

And i just finished my Hofri Ghostforge deck... Certainly gonna add him as a "second in command" in 99. But i don't feel like he is as good. The two mana difference is great for him, but the necessary untap theme feels more of a "fix" for his problems that Hofris spirit theme, which multiplies the value gained. He can copy something more times, which is great for high value cards, but copying everything once bring much more value with smaller creatures. But there are some great infinite combos with him and the copying is more controlled. Gotta try both

Ertha Jo, Frontier Mentor You should absolutely have her in this deck. She's Boros, she makes a Mercenary any time she ETBs, but most of all, she doubles not just Balloon man's ability, but all your activated abilities that target creatures.

Nahiri's Resolve could be a good include in an ETB focused version of this deck. It's like a Conjuror's Closet for your whole board, you just can't block with whatever you choose to flicker

Hi Prof, came here from your Wotc takes commander video. I don’t think this would be a bracket 1, but I also don’t think this is “precon.” I’ve only been playing MTG 1 month, and the best things I’ve learned are from your channel! I bought the Zinnia and Hakbal precon based on your videos. I built a Wick deck alone, and I built JBM deck. I say your JBM isn’t precon because it’s more optimized than a true precon; it’s also not $45, even when you first posted it if I were to buy all cards, it was closer to $55. I built it with most of your budget option cards, but I replaced some cards because I had good options from prerelease cards I had. In the end, despite my low experience I’ve won games with your JBM, and I think that speaks more to your optimization than luck/skill. This probably would straddle bracket 2/3, based on strength and how hard it is to respond to it.

This deck is incredibly similar to my Saheeli, the Suns Brilliance deck I built when I cracked her from an Ixalan draft, except she's Izzet instead of Boros. Intruder Alarm and all the blue untap dorks make for very powerful combo finishers in that deck. Do be careful with Echoing Assault (11:00) as it does say "nontoken" only. Can't copy the balloons, but you can absolutely copy the original if you send him into the red as well!

Here are a few of my additions to the deck: - Trusty Packbeast and Loran, Disciple of History to recur artifacts (meteor golem, boom box, burnished hart) - Burnished Hart: repeatable fetching of two lands - Urbis Protector: creates 4/4 angels tokens when copied - Skaa Embermage: deals 4 damages to any target when copied - Bloodpyre Elemental: deals 4 damages to a creature when the copy dies - Arcbound Shikari: boost other artifacts and modular, so puts its +1/+1 when the copy dies - Thraben Inspector, Wojek Investigator: clue creation for card advantage - Sanguine Evalgelist: creates 1/1 bat when copied and when it dies - Unlicensed Hearse: Graveyard control and can grow big. Can be recursed by packbeast or Loran. - Ertha Jo, Frontier Mentor: double the copy effect of the clown, creates 1/1 - Tragic Arrogane: flexible sweeper

For the record Echoing Assault can't copy the balloons, it's nontoken only. It'll copy your normal creatures when you swing in though.
