The reprints make me, as a budget only player, unbelievably happy. Imprisoned in the moon, heroic intervention, greater good, the fortified village cycle, swift foot boots(wasn’t that expensive, but still over a dollar), utopia sprawl, sword of the animist, and this all in just ONE of the decks

Yeah, I was so pleased with all of the old untapped lands in the planar portal deck, that have never been printed in my magic lifetime and were at the "eh, not worth it" level of price. Now they come packaged with the deck I wanted to play!

I actually really like the replacement for oversized cards, I get to use them as my commander and the actual card can either be inserted in another deck or just put in my binder. I hope they continue to make those going forward :)

From the cheaper 20$ decks, I would recommend Land's Wrath from Zendikar Rising. Lands Matter is a great entry strategy into commander, because the playstyle fits the slower format and many of the cards you'll get to upgrade it are universally playable in a lot of different decks, so even if you end up dissolving the deck later on it's very easy to pivot to different strategies or build around a different landfall commander like Omnath for instance. Compare that to any of the 2019 commanders for example, and you'll see that they feature a lot of cards that are really only playable in their specific niche strategy. Among the 40$ decks, I'd consider one of the Strixhaven decks, Adrix and Nev and Osgir are both good commanders depending on what you like to play. Tbh none of the decks from Ikoria are really doing it for me (maybe Kalamax, because it contains Pako // Haldan which are great flexible commanders) and Commander 2019 is even worse (because of the specialization on one mechanic). Commander 2018 has some great decks, especially Nature's Vengeance for its land theme, and Subjective Reality if ETB shenanigans are your thing. Any decks older than this aren't gonna be available without a significant markup, so I wouldn't recommend them. At the end of the day, any commander that excites you to build around it is gonna serve you well and which one is ultimately the best for you depends on personal preference. This is just my personal recommendation for what decks I think make for a good starting point into the format.

I would say pick up whatever precon speaks to you. The more recent years (2018+) are better as they are of a better price than 2017 and previous which have mark ups. The ones I would recommend looking into are: Aura of Courage (Dungeons and Dragons) Lorehold Legacies (Strixhaven) Quantum Quandrix (Strixhaven) Faceless Menace (Commander 2019) Dragonic Rage (Dungeons and Dragons)

This set LARGELY got new cards right. Really interesting cards, mostly not overpowered and even strong cards aren't must-haves like you said. It's a more INTERESTING set than it is flat power which is exactly what the design team should be doing. Loved this forgotten realms set so much it's the first set I bought cards for since 2007-2008.

I bought the Prosper deck, and combined it with my old Anje Falkenrath desk I've had sitting around but could never figure out what I wanted to do with it. throw in some foretell and adventures, discard outlets, and Chandra cards, and you've got a spicy deck indeed!! I'm a big fan, it's among the most fun builds I've come up with in a while!!!

This video was one i was extremelly happy to see since i was pondering if i should buy one of these or not based on price (which isn't pure conversion of Dolars to Reais, since by conversion it should be around R$200,00; i've only found prices around R$250,00). So watching your analyzis is extremelly helpfull. Unfortunatly, i'm yet to see a store whose commander decks drops price instead of raising it based on how many there still is on the market, which is a shame. But nonetheless, Thanks for the video!

I literally just played a game yesterday against the D&D dragon precon and the Silverquill precon with my budget Ishkanah spiders deck and it was truly a sight to behold. The players with the precons were just learning the game, it was literally their first games ever, I even got to help them sleeve up their decks, and it was amazing seeing how quickly they picked it up and just how hard those decks can punch. I got hit with like 4 or 5 board wipes between the two and man was it a fun slugfest of a game. Almost made me buy the Silverquill deck.

I really, really want to build a Galea deck. I think that the Aura of Courage deck is going to end up being worth more in the long run purely because Galea is going to be worth significantly more money in a year or so, sort of like how Aesi is now worth $10-13. Galea is a super cool, somewhat unique design that you won't find anywhere else.

Some cards you'll want are _Thran Power Armor_ , _Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist_ , _Puresteel Paladin_ , _Kodama of the _*_West_*_ Tree_ , & _Solaflora, Intergalactic Icon_ . If you're looking to pop in any planeswalkers _Nahiri, the Lithomancer_ & _Ugin, the ineffable_ and otheres that work with auras and equipment in Bant would be solid choices. If you can afford her, _Avacyn, Angel of Hope_ might be another good inclusion to protect your board state.

Having bought all 4, the only one I kept together (but did upgrade) was Dungeons. Got to play it a couple times at FNM and it was a blast. Even upgrading it on a budget can help it become so much. The other 3 I broke down and added their components to other decks. (2 great additions to Dungeons are Oriq Loremage and Gary. Tutor anything to your graveyard and a great creature to reanimate that can easily be a finisher)

I purchased the FR draft, set, and collector Booster Bundles to roll into playing MTG with my boys after 10 years and now learning about D&D Commander Sets. You sold me. I like your style. I will risk waiting for better deals as I am more a collector and play for fun with family who won't get pissed at me taking long on my turn. No more tournament douche bag know-it-alls AND cheaters. Honestly, out of all the pre-cons of the DnD Commander set, I knew that the best one to get was Planar Portal and I love it! Absolutely worth the $40 and I would recommend the deck to starting players or players that would love to make some free mana makers. I've upgraded mine and I can honestly say that it's running pretty smoothly. So yeah...that's what I wanted to say. Lol.

I started Magic about a month ago and Planar Portals was the first ever commander deck I bought. Having both played a warlock in D&D & taking the Prosper deck hard into his 'cast from exile' mechanic, they perfectly capture the warlock experience in MtG. That alone is a win to me!

New to magic completely started last Thursday. Picked up dungeons of death and I've enjoyed playing it. It was a learning curve for sure but once i took the time to understand how the cards worked ive found the synergy of it. Cant wait to collect enough cards to really overhaul or even build my own

I keep saying this but i'm old enough to remember when the old precon decks came in boxes big enough to contain the 60 card deck and nothing else. Why can't we go back to that? I just realized i'm the old guy shaking his fist angrily at the sky! haha!

These new boxes and packaging they started with strixhaven is an improvement. The boxes are actually very usable and fit a sleeved deck with the tokens and life counter comfortably

I will say my one beef with the precons is that in my personal opinion, 40 lands is not really needed. Even in landfall decks I feel like that would be a bit excessive. 35 lands is plenty to still have a consistent deck and many players use even less. This is a smaller issue though so I still enjoy the precons and am very happy with how wizards is improving the formula!

Which of the venture cards allow that? I get the bouncey Zombie can go infinite with some cards, is anything else worth it?

@@martl8615 I don’t think there are any that really go infinite, it mainly comes from just having multiple things that you can trigger each turn. Attack triggers, ETB’s, death triggers, thanks to the deck having a recursion theme it isn’t that hard to ensure all of your enablers are in play.

my old pod called those the Tango lands also and the ones requiring 2 or more people, Morphic pool for example, Conga lands. It takes two to tango and three to Conga.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t open these things very frequently so when I do it’s nice to have a fun experience opening it, which usually means packaging. Like if I just got that box with all the cards in it I’d be a little disappointed

intricate packaging is only fun if there's a lot of things in the box you're buying. if these had decks, dice, boosters etc all in one box it would be fun to open, but one deck and a life counter you're throwing in the trash could just come in a tiny box and make everyone happier.

It went pretty well! Game #1: my buddy won with Galea (we kept calling her Gale lol). Game #2: I won with Prosper. I played with the esper deck game one and wasn't too crazy about it, but I loved the value that came with Prosper. Definitely a deck I plan on building.

When the prof showed the problematic made for commander cards, i realise im a bad person for playing literally all of them in pretty much every deck that can use them. If a deck has red, dockside goes in, arcane signet just goes into literally every deck i build (for the most part), teferi's protection goes in all white decks. Problematic maybe, but god i love efficiency

Yep, I play Jeska's Will and Dockside in my 35$ krenko deck, and by god, when I hit those two, it's like 40cc of concentrated "I can't calm the fuck down" is injected straight into my boardstate. It's such a high lol

#TeamTangolands for sure, but for the same reason I hated "battlelands" I have to disagree with Shadowlands. Limiting a cycle's name to a set really causes issues when the entire cycle is split between sets. if only they had the snarl names for the Innistrad ones :( Though I guess the snarl lands coud maybe still apply - it's not like the other names don't need explanations either

I actually stopped playing mtg for a while, back in about 2016. I was having horrible luck with cards, and would either draw all lands and nothing to use them on, or no lands and be sitting around doing nothing the whole game. But, me being a huge dnd nerd, when I saw the AFR set, I decided to give it a try. So I learned how to shuffle a magic deck properly, and I learned about commander, and I started playing with my friends. And boy I’m glad I did! I will always like this set the best, not because it’s cards are better or because of its financial value, but these recons got me back into magic, and I will forever be thankful for that!

I started playing about 6 months ago. My buddy gave me a Mirko mill deck and soon enough i bought the Boros artifact precon and the green and blue token precon. They feel like pro decks tbh. I upgraded them both and have been loving them since. And i like equipment more than anything weirdly enough, so I'm definitely getting one or 2 of these.

It's funny to see older Commander precons way cheaper than the new ones. Here in Argentina, it's the exact opposite, the older the deck, the bigger the price. Kinda sad, but it is what it is.
