I heard a couple things, one the print runs were cut by 75% because of covid and the fact they had to get M21 and Double Masters printed. Also this is an "ever green" set meaning its going to be printed along side the life of M21.

I can't quite put my finger on it but I think the Prof is the best ambassador of the game, from a players perspective, out there today. He cuts through the BS; he is direct about what you're getting and what you should expect to get and isn't afraid to State the truth of that whether it is good or bad for wotc. And his passion for the game is always evident; you don't have to be some caricature of a hype man for mgt in order to show how much you love it. He makes it seem like he is your advocate for a better MTG experience and that probably more than anything is why he is a trusted voice in the community.

People are locked down in the USA and have had relative access to the product, meanwhile France and other european countries are "freed" (and shops are opened again, even hosting events in some places) but will not see those cards before the school year starts, with luck...

I love this product, I preordered it at $100 and played it this past weekend with my girlfriend. We were planning on just opening 4 boosters each, but the games were so fun and the pulls so exciting that we ended up playing through the whole box, getting over a dozen games in throughout the day! It reminded me a lot of the styles of decks I would build back when I was just starting to play, but with exciting, splashy cards and better synergy! I ended up taking out the cards I wanted for commander, replacing them with similarly splashy, but less expensive cards and sealing all the packs so I could play with them later. I'm planning on working through my shoe-box to make my own Jumpstart packs with cards that aren't quite good enough for constructed. I ended up getting Rise of the Dark Realms, Craterhoof Behemoth, Rhystic Study, Ghoulcaller Gisa, Phyrexian Tower, and some less expensive but playable cards like Vedalken Archmage, Black Market, Reanimate, Liliana Waker of the Dead, Kira Great Glass-Spinner. Also some of the fun new legends like Bruvac and Neyith! Overall really great purchase (at the appropriate price!!), with hours of great gameplay, and tons of cards I can slot into my existing decks, including those fun basic lands.

I guess casual is the best description of it, and Jumpstart features cards without a specific format, so hoping they're relatively balanced against each other

I doubt many people would be ready to resell me their packs as is without asking for a very high margin (especially the dumb "mythic" rarity boosters).

Sadly not. If the 'not for everyone' product was bought by 25% of players, but brought in 5× the money, then they just made 125% profit. I don't think that's the case, but I think it's where they are aiming

I think what I like most about this product is not only the infinite replayability, but the future potential. Themes could come down after the initial run that really help strengthen the overall mashups. Weaker packs can be switched for stronger ones, and vice versa! That and people with massive collections, creating their own themes. It's the kind of Pick Up and Play that can really make this fun and exciting.

JumpStart plays a lot like UnSanctioned, a reusable format similar to that of a board game. I seriously considered buying a box and getting some of those resealable 'cubeamajigs' and keep em together for a replayable limited experience. But when a box costs $249 CAD or $11.99 CAD per booster, that's not a feasible plan. Hopefully they continue to print these by the boat-load to lower prices to where they should be. Also, I'm rather disappointed that the paper packs only come with ONE of the unique JumpStart lands and the rest of the basics are M21. What a wasted opportunity and shady way to drive up prices for a non-foil basic land.

There is an issue that was not said in the video: the product only exists in English. I play Magic with my family but they are not expert in Magic and don't have the same level of English as me. Therefore, being the cards in English instead of Spanish implies I can't play with them using this product.

I'm surprised you didn't mention that, since it's a product ment for beginners it would have made a lot of sense to print it in people's native language. This is the second draft of this comment and a much shorter one. I'll keep it much less filled with nerd rage. I had high, high hopes for this product. I was thoroughly disappointed. Not all pack are the same power level, which is understandable. But be warned there are some packs that are really just there to pad out the numbers. I had terrible luck and got a pack where the best card was one that's available in the free introductory decks available at your LGS. Big sad.

I should mention, I managed to score a box for not too high a mark up price. Brought it home, cracked a couple packs with my roommate, played a few games. First game I opened the themes Smashing and Feathered Friends. Next game I opened 2 Feathered Friends. I thought that was odd, because of how many different themes there are. I cracked the rest of the box, and there was a total of 5 Feathered Friends, 4 Smashing, 2 Treefolk, and 2 Archaeology, and 2 Predatory. Be aware that it may not be as random as it seems. Maybe I got unlucky and most boxes arent like that.

Jumpstart is really exactly what I want out of a physical product as someone who mostly plays MTGArena and prefers limited to constructed. I think I might buy a box if I can find one at a reasonable price and put each half deck in its own package and use it as a way to teach the high school kids in the Anime/Gaming Club I run how to play. I loved Smash Up for the same reason as Jumpstart MTG - nearly endless variety and replayability without the overwhelming ask of deckbuilding and collecting.

I think print run will be much lower than you think...with the high amount of new products every 2 months or so (double masters, commander special series, zendikar revisited), attention goes to the next thing, and demand goes down, hence printing stops...so I wonder...

I do really hope Jumpstart sticks as a product. I love it's design and want this to be one of the premiere non-standard methods of reprints and supporting new players. They should definitely keep doing masters sets, not like double masters though, But this is basically the product I've wanted for a long time. This is how you get me, someone who typically only buys singles for eternal formats, to buy boosters.

A wonder... we've seen more mistakes in printings since the roni hit. Are they using new printers? I've noticed the coloration and finish on the cards is different compared to what we normally see. Most cards I've opened are more brightly colored and the finish is smoother (both of which I appreciate) BUT if they're using a different printer than usual, and perhaps that printer is understaffed from normal due to social distancing, it does make sense that mistakes would be on the rise. That's not to say they shouldn't replace the mistakes, they should. I'm just presenting a theory as to why it might be understandable that we're seeing more of it at this time.

vmcampos they all had white spots all over them like one of the ink passes was messed up, and one was missing big chunks of ink. You can see how they all look kinda blurry in the video. It was on every single card in the pack in various levels of how bad it was.

I wish I had watched your video about Friday Night Magic before I bought it to play with my daughter, we had bought the Spellslingers Decks and a few Duel Decks and she really enjoyed them. I have just checked the price at one of my LGS: a booster is 12$CA and a box is 250$CA. It is definitely a product I was interested in but I will not pay this price that is far above a Core Set booster or box. Wizards of the Coast need to ship these additional product fasts.

I'm surprised you were so glowing about the gameplay. I've found the games to be very similar to planeswalker deck games, with very few exciting games. While the cards are better than PW decks, the build of the decks leads to similar games that aren't terribly interactive or exciting. Otherwise I agree it is a very good product, atleast for new or casual players. Great video as ever discussing the product comprehensively.

While there's a lot to like about JS's concept, it's execution is poor. Smashup Onslaught Goblins + Mirrodin Affinity = Cool, as the inherent powerlevel of the decks come from synergy; so their smash up is less powerful, but wackier. Smashup Intro Deck Green with Planeswalker Deck Teferi = tedious slog where you sit on barely synergistic filler commons until you get one of your 2 bomb rares, and if your lucky you get a Wall of Blossoms or Path to Exile to prolong the misery until you get your bomb. Rares aren't bombs? Sucks to be you. Unless your (R) is a $20 (C) reprint, in which case I guess you won the low stakes lottery. Enjoy. Edit: Let's be clear, Onslaught Goblins and Mirrodin Affinity were largely comprised of (C)s and (U)s. WOTC could have created solid, fun Smashup gameplay featuring mostly (C) and (U)s; instead of redundant M21 limited filler chaff.

I opened up 3 duplicate packs, same configuration and everything. UNFORTUNATELY they were all bad common packs with M21 rares, which felt aweful considering I didnt preorder and paid $150+tx for my box. In total, I only opened 3 rare/mythics from the jumpstart sets, and only one decent reprint in Reanimate. But hey, at least I got to play with friends

Guys Mystery booster boxes are print to demand!!! Dont buy them at 200$ they'll come back down!!! I remember when Rudy advised not to buy JS at 135$ booster box. Just becasue its print to demand doesnt mean the WotC printers aren't going BRRRRRRRRRR with money right now. They have more secret lairs, Double Masters, and Zendikar right afterwards. They aren't going to have time to go back and print more of this product... Just my 2 cents

I think Jumpstart is really cool but the price is way too high right now. I'm assuming the fact that it's not a limited print run will eventually drive the price down, and then it will be worth it.

JumpStart is worth it just for the (relatively balanced) jank gameplay it provides. Meta holds no sway here... and sometimes, what you end up with is as hilarious as it is functional. Best deck I've ended up with to date was "Tree Hugging Phyrexians"... cause you know those... darned... Phyrexian... hippies?

Just feel the need to point out that $100 is not and never was (at least in relatively recent times) the MSRP for a normal, Standard, booster box. The MSRP is/was $139. Jumpstart's MSRP is also $139, which puts it at about $6 a pack.

There is a "Goblins" and "Vampires" pack but no merfolk? "Under the Sea" doesn't even have merfolk, but "Wizards" does? Wotc has always hated merfolk and gives everything good to spirits and humans.

In a box of 24 packs and 46 different themes, its surprising how little variable you can get. It makes gameplay tedious and boring when you play Archaeology....and Archaeology. How bout spellcasting...and spellcasting? I literally removed those packs which shrunk my pack pool by almost a third. As a player who is looking to build a collection for casual fans and friends, one can only grin and grimace that at least someone can enjoy it.

I paid $10 a pack and wasn’t too excited about the results. I’d rather have a stack of fun Jank Decks lying about for teaching new Players. They were fun, but I’ll definitely pass on buying more.

The one thing I don't like about this product is the packaging - "it's a complete game in a box" kind of falls apart when you can't re-store the cards you open in the box they came in. I really wish they'd have put the packs in box more like the fatpacks, or ye olde collector's edition instead of the basically useless "display box" - that way when you're done with a game, the cards would nicely slot into where their packs used to be. The MTG packaging engineers have been going overboard in the last couple years with absolutely horrendous garbage packaging - literally. Useless for storing the product they come in, and beyond excessive in some cases as well (mostly Secret Lair, ultimate or otherwise).

Unfortunately, its not very accessible at the moment. All of my lgs' were shorted on their order and are charging $200 a booster box or $25 for three packs. Jumpstart has been bought to extinction in my area and I've been priced out of purchasing this product.

Having played several games on Arena, some matchups don't end up good experiences, but it's a cheap enough experience, where if you haven't been discouraged, that you can play another one. I just really think that the Black Recursive Removal, and the lack of enchantment removal in general just doesn't make this as good as I want to be. It's good. Don't get me wrong. I've been enjoying myself. It just could be better.

DO NOT under any circumstances, if you open any of the double printed cards, send them back to WotC (ask for replacements sure but not at the cost of sending the defective ones back). Single cards of the misprinted ones currently sell for more than a booster box to misprint collectors. Also look out for ones that have VOID stamped in white on them, do not unseal the deck if you are lucky enough to get one (last ones sold for over $1k sealed)
