Hey Professor! I’ve loved your videos for years; they’ve brought me and my friends lots of excitement and inspiration when it comes to MTG, and I appreciate all the work you put into your content. I am curious though, would you consider making more pauper videos? Maybe some of your own brews that are more zany and experimental? Pauper, in my opinion, is the greatest format and is the friendliest of the formats to new players, so I’d love to see more of that on the channel. Either way, your videos are great, keep up the good work!

"Shattering Spree" has a bit advantage over "By Force": while being color intense, Blue players hate it! It's a lot harder to counter "Shattering Spree" as opposed to "By Force". That said, I think you miss a few MUST RUN cards in red decks: - "Etali, Primal Storm" is a very much must run in any red deck, this cards give you a massive card advantage. He doesn't even have to his his target to benefits from his insane trigger! His only downside is that you cannot play land with it. :( - "Faithless Looting": Not really a card advantage, but a really good and cheap filter effect for any red deck. - "Mana Geyser": BEST red ramp spell for an explosive turn. And I guess this following one is more restricted and yet insanely good: - Underworld Breach: NOW we're talking card advantage; this card is an win-con for many decks; and a fantastic mid/late top deck card.

My personal favorite red spell is Volcanic Offering, nothing is more fun than a four for one that could potentially make you go "I didn't destroy your creature/land, they did. Go after them, not me" and it works sometimes. Plus if you happen to copy it with Dualcaster Mage it gets even more fun.

An excellent list to be sure but I would add the following: Stranglehold 3R enchantment Your opponents cant search libraries Or take extra turns. Card is so freaking good! Magus of the Wheel: 2R Creature version of Wheel of Fortune. Cheaper than his big bro and excellent at punishing tutors and consecrated sphinx or Rhystic Study players. Lastly: Fault Line is RR and x for an instant that deals x damage to each creature without flying and each player! Clear boards, end games (with Syr Kara or Neheb the Eternal) And Word of Siezing: 3RR instant split second (nothing else can be on the stack until this resolves) gain control of target permanent until e o t: untap it gains haste

Cards like Faithless Looting, Thriling Possibilities and Blood Moon are pretty important in red builds with their lack of card draw and hate against things non-artifact. Goblin Engineer is an entomb for any artifact combo strategies and Treasure Nabber also helps you get into an early game jump on opponents. Red also has the best combo finishers with cards like Comet Storm and Kiki Jiki, Mirror Breaker

Excellent list, really happy to see Extortionist and Opulence. I think there’s 3 other cards that could be considered for this list: first, Wheel of Fortune. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s easily the best card advantage and wheel effect in the color (and even compared to other colors). Second, I think that Chandra, Torch of Defiance is an excellent new addition to red’s arsenal. It’s very flexible, isn’t overcosted, and has immediate effects when it enters. Lastly, I think Treasure Nabber is an excellent piece of disruption for red. While not quite Extorionist or Tyrant, it costs only 2R and can have a large impact on the board. It seems to be a happy medium between those two cards and I love watching my opponents struggle to keep themselves from tapping their rocks.

Two of my favorite mono-red cards are a bit expensive (mana wise), but can both be explosive - especially when on the field together. Sunbird's Invocation and Possibility Storm form a wild combo that essentially casts 3 cards for the price of one, especially in Commander. My Jhoira, Weatherlight Captain has both along with Etherium Horn Sorcerer and it gets crazy, since EHS has cascade.

The best "ritual" in red decks is Mana Crypt tho. The second best is Sol Ring, followed by Mana Vault. Red rituals are nice, but with mana rocks being as busted as they are (srsly how is Mana Crypt not banned?), they rarely see play.

I would have included Sunbird's Invocation on the list. 5 and a red enchantment, and its effect is "Whenever you cast a spell from you hand, reveal the top X cards of you library where X is that spell's converted Mana cost. You may cast a card revealed this way with a converted Mana cost X or less without paying it's Mana cost. Put the rest on the bottom of your library in a random order." Absolute must run. It can turn a huge play to a double trouble for your opponent.

Price of Glory is a MUST have. Blue counter-heavy players can easily take over a game if it goes too long and if nobody dedicates to punishing them out of the game, the blue player will likely sour the table with endless bounce effects, extremely lopsided 2 or 3-for-1 counterspells and cards like Jin Gitaxis just making it impossible to play.

Here's my take on the list: 1 - Dockside Extortionist (It's honestly just OP, but it's fine because red needs it.) 2 - Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker (Probably the most infamous red combo card. This cards ends games.) 3 - Wheel of Fortune (Whoever said red doesn't draw cards well hasn't seen this before. Unfortunately expensive due to reserved list.) 4 - Gamble (Demonic Tutor for Red? Yes plz.) 5 - Pyroblast / Red Elemental Blast (There's almost always someone playing blue. And if there is, these are great cards.) 6 - Blasphemous Act (A boardwipe for 1 mana is something most decks would at least consider playing. This is often exactly that, at least in creature heavy environments.) 7 - Faithless Looting (There's a reason it was banned in Modern. It's great in Commander, too. Especially if you can use your graveyard.) 8 - Chaos Warp (Universal red removal, just something most decks would want to consider) Honorable Mentions: 9 - Insurrection (The closest thing red has to an "I win the game"-button in one card. More of a casual card due to the mana cost, but very satisfying if you get to play it.) 10 - Goblin Welder (This one mana goblin can not only restore your dead artifacts at the cost of a measly treasure token, but also disrupt opponents by making them sacrifice their best artifacts for crappy artifacts in their graveyard) 11 - Underworld Breach (Great combo card and even ok if just used for value. While this is more niche in it's application, it's extremely powerful when used right.) 12 - Aggravated Assault (Great card in a lot of decks, most notably Najeela. Easy to go infinite with.) My favorite red card is Zealous Conscripts. Few things in life are as satisfying as taking your opponents Planeswalker, ulting it to get the emblem and returning the dead walker to their yard with a chef's kiss. It's also just a really good card in most other scenarios and happens to combo with Kiki-Jiki to end the game. I've only seen Hellkite Tyrant trigger successfully once in all my years of playing commander. It just seems to get blown up or countered every single time. Unless you can give it haste reliably, I don't think it's worth running. War's Toll and Curse of Opulence are a lot less effective if your opponents know what they're doing, so I also wouldn't really consider them to be top tier red cards (especially in a format where most games end either via infinite combo or with a single big swing rather than classic creature combat).

OMGul... the earbud ad made me laugh. I am a guy who is hard wired to hate adds. I go so far as to make up my own dialog/lyrics as commercials plays to make fun or just plain remind myself that advertisers will boldly lie straight faced if it will sell a product. Mostly I just avoid them any chance I get. I abandoned network television when Netflix was still only doing DVDs by mail and block busters was still in business by subscribing to both services and basically only watching movies. When I heard Google might break Add Block I looked into running all my network traffic through a Raspberry Pie to strip all adds that way. Believe me I could go on. I've heard it said "kill all lawyers" and I would add marketers to that, but I do recognize they are both necessary evils. Why say all this?.... well cause your delivery of the advertisement for these ear buds was SOOO FREAKING HILARIOUS, that I am actually going to look into these damn earbuds. I've been considering the Senheiser ones as I already have a set of their wired ones and they are great, but spending $200 for something I will only occasionally use before I inevitably leave them somewhere isn't thrilling. Keep up the good work Prof! Oh and DAMN you man.

Red card advantage can be a tough nut to crack. In addition to Outpost Siege here are some of my other favorites: Etali, Primal Storm Experimental Frenzy Light Up the Stage Commune with Lava Stolen Strategy (though it does miss lands) Sunbird's Invocation My red decks also tend to run some number of artifact card draw, but they're not red...unless we're referring to Chandra's Regulator, but that's not card advantage (only filtering) and only run in my Chandra tribal deck because it's Chandra themed and the trigger is bananas. Note that it's fine for card filtering to make up a portion of your card draw slots (at least in my opinion), but it can't be all of it. You need some number of your card draw slots to be actual card advantage. For red mana ramp I must admit I lean heavily on artifact sources, but in addition to Dockside Extortionist I do also like: Fires of Invention Treasure Nabber Brass's Bounty Mana Geyser is not ramp, it's combo. And if we're going to talk about red creature board wipes, while Blasphemous Act may be the best, I feel like we would be remiss to not mention the close runner up: Chain Reaction.

I really like Insurrection. It's expensive at 5RRR, but the effect is "Untap all creatures and gain control of them until end of turn. They gain haste until end of turn." It can be an absolute blowout - and if you have a sacrifice outlet like Ashnod's Altar or any number of Aristocrats-style builds, your opponents won't be getting their creatures back either. Assuming they survived the coup. But that is a little bit more situational, so Blasphemous Act might still be a better general pick for any deck in red.

I'm basic, and I play spellslinger decks most of the time, so my favorite red card is still Lightning Bolt. One red for 3 damage at instant speed is versatile enough. Need to kill an otherwise week creature that'll grow out of hand? Got it. Need to finish off a big creature after combat? Got it. Have the option to copy it a stupid amount of times and kill an opponent? Got it. The lost goes on. It's not super powerful, but I always like having it in my hand.

I was able to call almost all of these. Red doesn't have very much for the commander pool as the other colors in terms of powerful staples, but it has ones that do serious work. Although there is one card I thought would be on here that wasn't. I understand that it's a little pricey, but Disrupt Decorum is one of the most impactful red spells in multiplayer, and one of my favorites. Otherwise, yeah, all of these are great cards in the color! Thanks for the work! I know plenty of people who are intimidated by commander when it comes to deck building, but they say that these are a great starting point. So thanks and please keep it up!

Wheel of fortune is basically power, probably not worth mentioning for budget reasons but reforge the soul is close. Stranglehold is stax like War’s toll but scales with the power level of your playgroup

I can get behind the blasts, but I'm still unsure if I think Wheel would want to go in every deck. I don't think I'd want wheel in a deck that wasn't solely red, or had ways to deal with everybody else drawing cards too.

You know something I think would be great is a montage of all the Professors hair styles throughout this KZbin career. Because they seem to change like the wind. There has just got to be a mtg card reference somewhere. Professor please know that I’m not trying to throw any negative feedback at you because I think you and your channel is awesome and love what you bring to the MTG community. Thank You!

My mono-red EDH deck is my fave deck. Honorable mention for Chain Reaction (one of the better red sweepers) and my personal favorite red card ever, Possibility Storm. It's one of the most fun and random ways to completely shake up a board, and it makes it way harder for combo decks to pop off. If you're trying to get a copy of the expensive Dockside Extortionist, I might recommend just getting the Commander '19 Mystic Intellect deck; the Extortionist is 40 of the decks present [3/10/21} $50 price tag, so you effectively also get 99 other cards for just ten bucks. Plus it's pretty much a guaranteed mint quality :P

My must runs: Repercussion: combo with any large board-wide damage spell and often kill your opponents outright. Mana Geyser, one of the best red rituals in multiplayer, can easily lead to big turns.

I LOVE reiterate and other i/s copy effects 3 mana for a copy effect can costly, but in many, many scenarios it ends up netting you a ton of advantage, protecting your spells from counterspells, kill the player casting a massive torment, tutor, go infinite with cards like rewind, or even just serving as a big mana sink for massive value you never see in red!

Hmmm. I do like chaos warp in mono red decks. But as soon as you run colors that excell at removal, like white or to an extent green aswell, there are better cards to fit into that slot. Anguished Unmaking, assasins trophy, beast within, crosis's charm, despark, utter end. These are my favorites.

Bolt bend is an amazing red card. Especially when your commander is a key piece in your deck or you need a certain permanent out, bolt bend can most often only cost one and reflect the removal of one of your opponents to one of their own permanents. In addition, it also affects abilities which can be important and useful.

my favorite mana card in red is Mana Geyser. even just dropping it turn 5 with your own lands can give you 15 or more mana to launch you right ahead of your opponents

Outpost Siege is fine, but as you almost always pick the first mode, I've come to like Chandra, Fire Artisan more. If you have the deck to either block or sweep the board regularly, it's an insane card, that either can win you the game by "drawing you 7" or just be the Outpost Siege that sometime gets attacked and pings some opponents and planeswalkers.

Like the other ones, here is my list: Honorable Mentions: Wheel of Fortune (reserved list), Neheb the Eternal, Godo Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker Purphporos, God of the Forge Etali, Primal Storm Stranglehold Vandalblast Blasphemous Act Chaos Warp Dockside Extortionist

@@ms.aelanwyr.ilaicos I feel like the more toolbox cards are what he was going for here. Purphoros is good with creatures coming in often, kiki jiki, eh, not bad but usually just a short combo, etali is good value and might not be good in all decks, but the others after that seem more universally good and not just part of a certain deck style.

Comet Storm deserves a spot for it's flexibility and power. I can serve as spot removal for a handful of large creatures, a one sided wrath if your opponents don't go super tall or wide, or a finisher after getting infinite mana (or at least insane amounts.) Easily an auto include in all my decks that include red.
@nantukoprime

Wheel of Fortune? Live by the draw 7, die by the draw 7. Red dumps their hand so quick that you might not even ditch a card to the Wheel, and if you do ditch a full grip Red is pretty good at using those dead cards as fuel for effects. Most recent being Underworld Breach or Ox of Agonas, but I have a fondness for Grim Lavamancer myself.
