It hurts me as a swede to admit this since swedes and danes has tried to steal Norways thunder for such a long time: But vikings came orginally from Norway. This video proves it beyond any doubt. The fjords FORCED the vikings to make boats to be able to travel inside Norway crossing the hundreds of fjords in Norway. Sweden and Denmark are both without fjords - so there was no need to invent boats there. Your video just made me realize this fact.

All ferries that have less than 100k passengers per year are now free, regarless of how you travel (on foot, by car, truck, etc). As for this year (2023), they made even more ferries free, regardless of how many passengers per year, so . And private roads are quite rare, so it's not an issue for most tourists. And NO, there are no private roads when entering national parks, these are free to enter for everyone.

This video is from November 2020 and free ferries in Norway are from 1st July 2022. Since there are changes for locals and travelers, we made a follow-up video where we mentioned free ferries. Here it is if interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hqGrYmypmr6WptU Private roads are very common and they are an issue for tourists since is not very convenient to pay for them. Some are cash only, others are cards only, etc. An NO, there are private TOLL roads entering national parks and here are just a few examples: - road to Kjenndalsbreen, - road to Bødalsbreen, - road to Haugabreen, - roads from Mysusæter and to Dørålseter in Rondane National Park, etc.

This system is so different from Sweden where roads are free, including all road ferries, except for congestion charges in Stockholm and Gothenburg…

Originally these tolls were to finance single projects like tunnels in remote locations, but seems like gathering tolls became too popular and now toll stations are on every corner. However many of the are removed already, for example tunnel under Oslofjord is free now.

Originally the toll-payment was for the roads / tunnels, etc. But we liked it so much that we chose to keep the toll-booths for nostalgic reasons. Nowaday the money will finance the projects politician retired from national politics invents to be recognized in the UN system in order for them to get better paid jobs under the UN-umbrella.

Yes, you can book the Hellesylt-Geiranger ferry in advance through various subagents, and it's a good idea to arrive at least 20 minutes early to ensure everything goes smoothly. However, if you're looking for more flexibility, you might find that dropping in and boarding without a reservation works just fine. From our experience, there's usually plenty of space for everyone, with or without a car. Safe travels and enjoy the stunning journey! 😊🚢

I tried to book the camp site, but all of them are First-come-first-serve basis. They do not except booking. That mean my schedule would need to be flexible, guess it is better for me not to book the ferry ticket in advance. thanks for your videos, they help me build my confidence. 🤩

Vi bruker Autopass og får faktura direkte til banken. Fungerer bra for oss, vi trenger ikke å betale for ferge hver gang, vi kjører bare bord! Autopass-brikke gir deg 10-20% rabatt på bomveier og noen ferger (for eks. Horten - Moss). Hvis de samme veiene brukes ofte, er det mulig å inngå saparat avtale med høyere rabatt 20-40%, men da må du gjøre et depositum som ikke er veldig praktisk for noen sjåfører. Jeg vil anbefale sjåfør fra Norden å ha Autopass brikke, kan hjelpe å spare ca. 15-20%.

I can only advise contacting the rental service in advance if they allow it. Physically it is possible, but remember to put old Autopass into the foil to prevent double registration of the passage.

All rental cars in Norway already have a autopass transponder. Your rental car company adds all usage at end of rental period. Also road fees are discounted when a transponder collects the fee.

You don't seem to have to much understanding / knowledge of what it takes of costs for such a ferry service. You only point out how "expensive" it is for the users ....as if they are being ripped off. It is as simple as that someone must pay for the costs (at least most of it)....and that is the users ....strangely enough..... For having that ferry service you need to: - build the infrastructure of road leading to the ferry port....which can cost hundreds of millions (NOK) involving building both bridges and tunnels. - build the large parking area at the ferry port....which is not as simple as just to pour out some asphalt....it can cost tens of millions - then the construction of the ferry docking ...which can be a costly exercise....where the cost easily can be hundred million 'Then you must double the cost since there are two ferry ports...right... - The building of the ferry itself is very expensive....costing 600-800 million. - Then it is the cost for operating the ferry , maintenance .... and for crew. - Also the access roads and the ferry port need maintenance ....of course with a cost. Add up these costs ....and than divide it on the number of vehicles transported. Still the costs are so high that taxpayers have to subsidise the service. The only ferry service that don't have state subsidises is the mentioned Moss - Horten. There are 137 domestic ferry routes in Norway. The alternative for not using the ferry service....will normally cost more ....if there are some alternative at all.... It is not for free to drive your own car. If you drive more than something like 20-30 km ...than the costs is higher than the ferry. So ask yourself which alternative is expensive..... ....and no....there are no roads ...public or private roads in Norwegian national parks. The national parks are not a Disney-land ...they are established only for one purpose ....and that is to protect nature. Hence NO FORM OF MOTORISED object are allowed. No cars, no snowmobiles, no helicopter ....and you are not even allowed to fly your little drone as amateur / tourist / YT-photographer.

I think you express yourself too offensively. You must apologize! We said: "This is why traveling with a caravan will be quite expensive." For us, 2360 NOK for Horten Moss roundtrip with a caravan is rather costly. When we say expensive, it means costly for travelers as it becomes a significant part of the budget, so it is reasonable to prepare. You explained why it should not be considered overpriced, which is not the subject of the video. Also, how do you call the ferry on Bygdin and diesel cars parked at DNT Rondvassbu, when you say "NO FORM OF MOTORISED object are allowed"? Also don't forget the heavy traffic of private boats and commercial vessels in Ytre Hvaler Nasjonalpark and Færder Nasjonalpark.

It is not "hard to find information" ....it is as simple as that you don't drive car in national parks ...period..... You really need to inform yourself. Look up the sites for national park administration (Nasjalparkstyre) ....and all over you will find the word ILLEGAL. Only for very special purposes / cases permission for motorised transport might be granted. Application in each case is needed. To be specific your claim about driving car to Rondvassbu ....which is in Rondane national park....has nothing with reality to do. Look up Dovre og Rondane nasjonalparkstyre. ...and they say ILLEGAL. It is not even legal to drive with an electric bicycle there....not even if the motor is turned off..... Everybody who want to get to Rondvassbu must park their car at the parking lot at Spranget (outside the park)....and walk the 6 km, by foot, in order to get to Rondvassbu. Concerning your claim about boats on the lake of Bygdin .... Well....the lake is not within any national park.... Again you are in need of informing yourself. Your pathetic attempt to deflect the attention away from your false information ...about car driving in national parks... you start instead talking about national parks out at the coast / sea ...well...that doesn't impress to much... There are other considerations for Færder and Ytre Hvaler ...who almost includes all the sea area of the outer / southern Oslofjorden. The purpose with those national parks are to protect the biotopes on and around the many small islands there ...and the seabed ...with unique coral reef. Those areas has recently got status as national parks ... it’s aim is not to stop the existing and necessary ship traffic.... The ticket price for a ferry service is a function of the investment / cost of providing that service ....but you imply it is uninteresting ...and not "a subject" for your video.... that is just mind blowing. Since when was the investment irrelevant for the ticket prices....??? You spread the misconception of that the expensive prices are sort of unreasonable. As pointed out by me is the reality that all 137 ferry routes ...except one (Moss-Horten) has to be subsidised by the state / tax payers money. Me and other tax payers must work our ass off in order to pay tax ....so tourists like you can take your caravan trip for a low price as possible....but still on top you complain of how expensive it is. Wow....obviously to much of a challenge for you to understand how much there are behind/as basis for the prices.......... I can add that Norway is the ONLY country in the world that build an infrastructure, of all sorts, under so extreme conditions. Comparable areas are Canada, Alaska (USA), Patagonia (Chile) ....and none of them even try to build any kind of infrastructure. So you claim to have paid 2360 NOK for a 2-way trip with the Moss-Horten ferry service Then you at 1:30: show the prices from that very same ferry operator's web site. ....and what does that say...??? For anyone who can read they will see that the most expensive alternative is paying manual/with cash. For car up to 6 meter, under 3501 kg ...with trailer/caravan ....and total length under 10 meter...the price is 408 NOK. For car/caravan with total length over 10 meter ....the price is 612 NOK.... With use of Autopass you get 10% lower price. I don't know what car/caravan you have.....but the most expensive alternative is 612 NOK x 2-ways = 1224 NOK........which is just over half the price of what you claimed to have paid ...2360 NOK.... How you managed to pay 2360 is somewhat of a mystery..... Again ....let's say..... another dent in your credibility.... There is a simple solution for you to avoid these horrible rip-off prices (as you imply) ....just stay at home....
