Being a Mallu I feel Kollywood makes a mixture of movies. Like they have a mix of both commerical and content oriented films. On the other hand Mollywood is more keen towards content but we excel in it. And making movies like Bahubali, Avpl , Kalki etc.. which provides high entertainment value is also needed as a crazy movie viewer I love all variety of movies unless they doesn't end up disastrous. Telugu movies like : Bahubali, Ragasathalam, Major , agent Sai , Nenokkadine made a great place in heart.

Like people happy, laugh, cry, etc and for these things Malayalam movies from as early as 1980s were far superior to anything from Tollywood, Kollywood or even Bollywood. Yes, we are making high-budget grand pan-India movies, but how many are there? Maybe 3 or 4 out of 100 movies; what about the other 96 movies? 6 are good, 20 are average, 60 are routine mass masala, and 10 are down bad D-grade movies like Double Ismart, Mr Bachchan. In malayalam movies,most of the audiance have minimum commonsense,we love movies based on stories, acting with micro expressions,imotional connections,way of story telling... Etc,more than actors worship. When i watch the movie salar prabhas say in a fight scene "how meny rebel fans here" then pritwi says that "i have also fans here". I like prabhas and pritwiraj. But i don't feel goosebumps. I never see any of the audience clapping or supporting these too actors in the theater. The situation not demanding that dialogue. It feel little irritation and shame with pritwi doing these type dialogues. I dont know what happend in telugu theatre...

I enjoy both. Ayyappanum koshiyum is very grounded, real and very subtle. I enjoy it. I also enjoy bheemla Nayak, where there is loud bgm and slow motion walks. It’s much more difficult to make a proper masala commercial cinema than a grounded content movie. Coz if you miss one beat while making a commercial cinema, the audience might come out of the suspension of disbelief and it will ruin the entire movie. Very less margin of error. You can’t go too over the top or underplay….there has to be a consistent tone to the movie. Yes, an Irishman maybe a better content movie. But it won’t give you the entertainment that an avengers movie does. Absolutely no need to put down commercial or masala cinema. The mistake isn’t with the genre, it’s with the makers who try to cash in on a star’s image instead of making mass masala cinema in a fresh way. The 90s and 2000s tfi gave us some of the best commercial cinema. Later, it became all about the stars. Not storytelling. Only ss Rajamouli cares abt storytelling and he uses the star power of the leads as an adjunct to the movie, not the movie itself. Hence he’s breaking boundaries.

@ god what a stupid comment. Making a commercial movie is way Way tougher than a grounded movie coz it’s easy to convince the audience. For a masala movie, you have make sure that audience isn’t pulled out of the movie and start questioning the over the topness of it. Also, consistency of tone…if you pitch a movie at a level, it has to be consistent, grounded or over the top…that’s the tricky part. And well done pulling out a gag from a song and making it look like a scene from the climax. AP has its own grounded charm, bheemla has it own fervour, with rousing bgm and dialogues, it’s like demeaning rock music coz you find classical music to be better… This elitist mentality reeks of insecurity and immaturity.

Both the industries cater to different types of viewers... Without both these industries, our Indian films would be a disaster like Bollywood. Also people are watching Malayalam movies now because of OTT but let me tell you the 80s, 90s and 2000s Malayalam movies were in a different league. I was born in Andhra and I was brought up in Kerala...I feel lucky that I am able to enjoy some of the best movies from both industries in their original language...

Every1 say Malayalam is story reality.. Come on people under estimate Mallu industry as if we don't know MASS. Mohanlal MASS is insane.. See U guys need to learn Malayalam to understand the gravity and heft of the schenes Mohanlal, Mammotty, Suresh Gopi etc at times create on screen. For the outward people specially Hindi belt its kind of Gibberish, but for the Malayali those scenes are extreme goosebumps. So dont say Malayalm = story, reality only, we have all, its just that we cater to our own audience. Its like if Malayalai makes a movie and if a Malayali isnt able to understand it then whats the use. So Mallu MASS is as good or at times better than 0 gravity shit mass from Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Hindi etc but U need 2 really know Malayalam to understand it.
