I got lucky. I thought I had fixed the original problem (South Bridge) so it made sense to me that I had created the secondary problem somehow. I'm not sure what made me test each pin for continuity to ground. Maybe it was because I knew there was a ground pad underneath that ic that was very close.

Crazy repair. Your diagnostics process is the best I've ever seen. Great video as always. It had so many things wrong yet you kept finding out. I do have a question. Many times when you are diagnosting you take previous experience to check the most likely faults first. What's the process you would do if you had no previous experience of one system?

I don’t think those things you seen was Liquid Metal since it doesn’t go hard, but I suspect solder from a soldering station. 😂 I won’t say anything bad about a technicians work but rule 1 in repairs replace what you take away with the same content, filler or material. If it’s Liquid Metal go get some Liquid Metal and use that gently. If it’s actual thermal paste then use actual thermal paste, thermal pads use thermal pads. Can we not have enough decency to replace things exactly as they were? I know I won’t pay a technician to put something that didn’t come from high grade materials or the factory direct. Yes I know right to repair and it’s improving slowly in the USA slowly and painfully surely 😂. Great content brother keep it up

I swear, when I looked at 16:23 I wondered how you managed to properly solder that chip, by pushing down, with having so much solder on GND area, and not checking with multimeter afterwards. Then 40:55 happened. This is second time I was wondering about something then it turns out I was right :D Thanks for long video that included all parts! First time it was when you broke trace, while grinding glue, if you remember. 13:49 - I have not done it, but maybe manual sucker, to suck it in tube or something. 21:37 - When Novice do it 33:12 - When Doctor do it

I repair consoles as a side gig. Love your videos, always learn so much. I'm still kind of confused by the HDMI port. I've never experienced it but I've seen other repair videos where they found pins lifted straight from factory. Is it possible this was the case and they attempted to solder them back and ended up causing all this damage in the process?
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
This, I believe, was an after-market port. It did say LUXSHARE on the back of it. That is what my replacement ports say. If an original port has lifted pins, I would think that was likely because of the user stressing it too much.
@ajaks7636 Жыл бұрын

how much heat and air do you usually set your hot air when you're doing qfns without the bottom heater and with the bottom heater?
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
It depends on things like the size of the chip. I normally only use the preheater with larger BGA chips. The preheater lets me use less heat from the hot air station. These ICs are tough but they do have limits. The small QFNs I removed in this video I probably used 425-430C with no preheater. The PS5 motherboard soaks up heat well. For the South Bridge, I use the preheater and probably stay under 400C with the hot air if I can.
@REVERSE_BIAS7 ай бұрын
Hi there. Can you help me please? I'm trying to find out what resistance readings to ground the rows of large coils on both sides of the board should read? I'm getting seriously low readings, and all is hear is "yes that's fine it's the APU low impedance!?!?! The capacitors underneath the APU also read seriously low...I have seen one other person on Reddit with the same issue, but people again said for him not to worry?! How can you have 0.2 ohm on the non-grounded side of some caps... yet voltage injection at 0.9 volts only draws 0.8 amps and nothing heats up? I thought it'd pull high amps, but nope. Is it really supposed to be this low? Please if you can help, I'd really appreciate it.
@ToltecMerc7 ай бұрын
That does sound normal. The APU itself is the short. That does not mean it's bad. There is a 6-phase supply and 2-phase supply. The output of 6-phase supply will measure about 0.1-0.2 ohms. The 2-phase will probably read less that 10 ohms. Do you measure a short across the 12V input terminals?
@REVERSE_BIAS7 ай бұрын
@@ToltecMerc Wow fantastic mate, thank you so much for helping me! I've done electronics for years, but honestly never came across a situation where a short that low is normal. The 12V input line has been measured across the input pins, and no short, so hopefully once I repair the power supply and put it back on the board, things might actually work! Thank you so much.
@REVERSE_BIAS7 ай бұрын
@@ToltecMerc .... sorry I didn't reply properly. The short is after the coils. The input side of the 12V rail is not showing as a short. Hopefully it will be OK then once I try with a working power supply.

I just feel like using liquid metal was a terrible idea by Sony. Maybe there is a better way to do it, but watching you and others work on these just tells me it’s much more troublesome than old fashioned thermal paste.
@ToltecMerc Жыл бұрын
It certainly causes problems but I think others have tested thermal paste on the PS5 and it just does not work well enough. I think they are pushing the hardware hard.
