I’m just starting out and wow do you have quite the beautiful healthy collection of orchids 💕I have three I saved from my two daughter n law’s and that how I found your first vid on repotting and am I ever happy I did 💕I like your tips and the fact you quarantine the new plants is such a fantastic idea ! Two of the three have new leaves already so I’m on the right track I believe lol ! You’re inspiring I truly loved your tour and knowledge 💕The Tennessee skyline was beautiful and your prayer was lovely Thanks so much ❤️ps I watched your vid as soon as posted just wanted to take more time as was busy to write a more appreciative comment ✌🏻🇨🇦

Wow, Amy! No one does Phals better than you! And now with the Tolumnias! Pink Lady is amazing, Red Spread other-worldly. Thanks for the tips. In SC, this has been the strangest fall. Day/night temp differential nothing like what it usually is. Days in the mid 70's, nights 50's. Yesterday 79/66. Not sure what that will lead to in the garden, inside and out. Hugs to you and Jasmine! ❤❤❤ 😇😇😇

@@Joe-nj3bb this is bellina #4 in my collection! I can't get enough of them...and for $17.50 i couldn't say no! 😇
@Joe-nj3bb2 ай бұрын
@OrchidWhisperer Out of all three of my new species phals (bellina, violacea, and schilleriana), the schilleriana grew the best for me this year. The violacea is on its second bloom, but I think the bellina needs more time since it only made two leafs. I'm going to try to have it in warmer temperatures next year.
@OrchidWhisperer2 ай бұрын
@Joe-nj3bb that's interesting...schilleriana is usually the hardest of those three to grow. It's probably your climate. You could always grow your bellina on a grow mat for added warmth. I know growers in colder climates who do that. Bellinas also don't like to dry out between watering...I water them when they approach dryness. Happy growing!
@Joe-nj3bb2 ай бұрын
@OrchidWhisperer One of my first hybrid phals definitely has schilleriana in its DNA. The newest leaf always comes out mottled then it changes to a solid green, then the underside is purple on the newest leaf as well, finally it's spiking at the same time and it's the thin type.
@OrchidWhisperer2 ай бұрын
@Joe-nj3bb wow, that sounds like an awesome hybrid! My Purple Dust has schilleriana heritage and it's a great bloomer. I enjoy seeing how the parents affect the hybrid orchids.

Hi Amy, goodness those are beautiful flowers 🌸! I loved that sunset with the blessing💙. My friend bought me a phal for my birthday, beautiful purple. You know me I only have the thanksgiving, Christmas & Easter cacti, I know absolutely nothing about these! The plant looks very healthy but I don’t see many roots and one of them look brownish & kinda deflated. It came in a pot with no drainage, should I repot with an orchid pot? I’m watching your videos on orchids but if you have any quick pointers I sure would appreciate it. I’m so thankful for your channel, many blessings to you and your family🙏🏻💖 Chrissy 🤠
@OrchidWhisperer2 ай бұрын
@@Mimi-63 👋 Hi Chrissy! You'll do well with Phals, they're very similar to holiday cacti. You can wait to repot til Spring if you'd like. Especially if the orchid still has unopened buds. Get some good bark and an orchid pot with holes. Only water when the roots turn silver. (Like the wet/dry cycles in the summer with holiday cacti.) You'll do great, and it's roots will grow. Have great weekend! 😇🐶🌸
@Mimi-632 ай бұрын
@ it doesn’t have unopened buds, I do have the bark and pots from orchid supply. Is it ok to repot now (after I watch a few more of your potting videos🤣)?
@Mimi-632 ай бұрын
Update I figured out it was a pot within a pot 🤷♀️ it’s a good thing because it was sitting in water! I took it out and put on a paper towel like one of your videos said. The roots are nice and green! Also per your video I washed the leaves & sprayed with insecticidal soap. My only concern now is one of the top leaves was pierced where they put in the support rod and the leaf is turning brown 🤦🏼♀️. Thank you Amy for your patience and help 💖

How many hours of sunlight required for tolumnia? And potting media used for tolumnia
@OrchidWhisperer2 ай бұрын
I grow mine under 12 hours of LED light a day, and they're potted in NZ sphagnum moss. I have a playlist showing exactly how I have them set up, and a video on how I repot them. Happy growing!:)

Beautiful Tolumnias!!! I love the Pink Lady. :-) Personally, I think there was a mix up somewhere along the line on your "fine point" Tolumnia...it looks nothing like a fine point. Stunning nonetheless.
