Tom was WAY too strong for this guy. Tom was so much better i didn't even realize this was the gold medal match till the end.

Pure focus and determination. Save for Gable, I've never met anyone more intense than the Brands brothers.

Gable would still beat em tho. Brands may be a little better in terms of pressure (that’s up for debate), but Gable is a better all around wrestler

one of the most dominant performances as a whole at the 1996 Olympics. Tom only gave up 1 entire pt the entire tournament. only Gable has done a bit better (unscored upon in Munich)

Notice Brands NEVER stops attacking no matter what the score. Always a recipe for disaster when wrestlers try to protect leads and shut down their offenses.

@@ianshue2890depends what your strengths are. It you’re especially explosive but don’t have his VO2 max or lactic acid tolerance, you’d putting yourself at a big disadvantage wrestling that way. Is you turn it into an mile run you take away your sprint, and if you have enough sprint you want it in those terms rather than a steady state mile.

6:00 in is my favourite moment in wrestling history. Tom's winning by so much in the gold medal match but still attacking until the very last second. Look on the refs face says it all.
@sidviscious10 Жыл бұрын
Interesting strategy on Brands side.. he was giving him the shoot because he knew he had the edge on upper body strength to eventually get a throw... Also not much of a handshake at the end but not so much lack of sportsmanship but more the fact he's that focused and in the zone.. Wrestlers don't get enough credit, all time Olympic great performance IMHO

@FraldinhoBJJ6 жыл бұрын
ripstikgod you used to have to pull out your cup and show it to the ref before matches . Tom comes up and takes it out then tucks it back in. They did. Away with this by the time Sydney or Athens rolled around in 2000 or 2004 because I don’t remember seeing it after
@truebornsonofliberty5545 жыл бұрын
Chandiwira Beza no. It was a handkerchief. We were required to keep one inside our singlet in case of bleeding. I wrestled in the late 70’s all the way through the early 90’s and cups were never used. Never. I wrestled nearly a 1,000 matches and have watched thousands and have never seen a wrestler wear a cup.
