@@brucetucker4847 US went to the M16 because McNamara and his "whiz kids" in the Pentagon believed a fully auto 5.56 calibre was a better option, it also allowed a soldier to carry more of the smaller ammo. The first version of the M16 were terrible, and got a lot of troops killed in Vietnam.
@BrassBashers

@@RS-rj5sh it was a mixture of the ammo, the rifles, and cleaning kits not being standard issue to every man. The M16 was SUPPOSED to have a chrome lined barrel. The fat cats in their offices decided that was too "costly", soldiers got uncoated barrels. The burn rate for the powder was too slow and thus left unburt powder/fowling much more than usual. Also, when a gun gets wet and you shoot it making the barrel hot the water burns off and it instantly oxidizes (rusts). So a rusty bolt running on rusty rails shoving bullets into a rusty chamber. The bureaucrats in office at the time cost a lot of American casualties!

@CaneFu listen, captain America. If you ACTUALLY did your research kiddo or had any knowledge on the Vietnam War, you'd find that many soldiers/sailors/marines were drafted. E.g. conscripted. We haven't done that since Vietnam. Yes, the war was frowned upon at the time. On the other hand, from a macro level, whether you like it or not, American and European forces were fighting small wars throughout the Cold War. America decded to send its men to help keep democracy across the globe frkm being washed away by communist China. Suggest you learn about that too. Not everything is black and white. Should probably learn from your Captain America character. Could teach you something about fighting men.

@@charlesnol2187Charles, I actually have been under fire as an unarmed civilian in a civil war. A very uncomfortable situation to be in. It is my understanding that the VC, NVA were experts at ambushes and could have had mortars and MGs zeroed in on positions and remaining stationary could be deadly. I stopped years back to find logic in American Hollywood movies and the thinking patterns of others as it is mainly incorrect and all show. I am, thus, not even sure there was any historical accuracy in the events portrait or it was just a tinsel town adaptation. Little reason for me to re-analyse a movie that was made close to 30 years ago. However some war movies clarify to me the unnecessary loss of life on the American side caused by unintelligent behaviour.

Marines, or naval infantry, are soldiers who specialise at operating in littoral zones, both on land and at sea. Historically, the main tasks undertaken by marines have included raiding ashore in support of naval objectives, and the boarding of vessels during combat or capture of prize ships. Marines also help maintain discipline and order aboard the ship (reflecting the pressed nature of the ship's company and the risk of mutiny). In most countries, marines are an integral part of the navy.

@G4x5da
@G4x5da 3 ай бұрын
@@justinthomas85you want statistics? The biggest most important amphibious operations (Torch, Husky and Overlord) were done by armies. The need of a marine force was relevant in the 17-19th centuries but expeditionary warfare is more a Army game now. Also, the way the USMC is organized and operates is more a army. The USMC is bigger then most militaries in the world (they even got their own Air Force) whilst a marine force always intended to be a elite small scale amphibious raiding for like the Rangers. You can’t be elite if you have got 200.000 men, tanks, howitzers, jets, etc. and almost everyone passes your training. Look at the Royal Marines Commando. I’m telling you the USMC operates like a army.
@justinthomas85
@justinthomas85 3 ай бұрын
@G4x5da the way the Marine Corps operates is what is required of them. They have gone through massive doctrine changes for what was needed. In the beginning of Enduring Freedom they were a highly mobile expeditionary force, by the time Iraq was invaded, they became an occupational force. They have adapted for every conflict they have operated in. They are not the Army Rangers, and they are not the generic Army. The Rangers aren't Delta, and the 101st aren't the Rangers. The Army isn't forward deployed with the training and certifications that a MEU is. The USMC can't airdrop a brigade into an area like the 82nd can either. They all have their specialties. In terms on WW2, look how long it took the planning and organization of those 3 operations, vs the time it took to land on Islands in the Pacific. The Army invaded Normandy because they were deployed there, and they were all sitting in England waiting, across a Channel. The Marine Corps sailed across the Pacific.

Cruise is not a great actor, but rather, a movie star. He plays a variant of the same character in every film he's in. Actors like Daniel Day Lewis (Lincoln), Meryl Streep (Iron Lady), and Jamie Foxx (Ray) are a different breed. They could help you forget it was an actor on screen, and furthermore, make people believe it was the character up there. With every new film he makes, we never forget it's Cruise on screen. John Wayne had the same issue. That said, "Born on the Fourth of July" was definitely one of Cruise's better efforts. Even so, I can't think of any film in which he successfully changed shape such that we forgot it's him up there. So what if he doesn't get an Oscar? He'll have to settle for being a multi-zillionaire. He's worked his butt off, no question, but I can't think of him as a victim of unfairness.

Do marines not do a certain amount of soldierING, in th context of th battlefield situ? Having to try to correct the video title, for th sake of separating one branch of military from another, aint saying a lot for th spirit of being brothers in arms.. Put plainly : when th US ships these guys out to wartime conflict, zillions of everyday Americans are concerned for those doing SOLDIER-like action..... Thus, we refer TO them as soldiers.. We r not, in th moment, trying to differentiate whether they r Rangers or Deltas or regular army or Marines or any other damn category.... So giv it a REST

2:15 It says, "MARINES" in white lettering on the helicopter. This word had to have been lost in translation because French has a rule saying they all have to be females if you use that word. If they are all males and or males and females mixed together, then it's Marins with no E. after the N.

In Spanish it's either Marinero (seaman) or Infanteria de Marina (marine infantry or infantry of the marine, the same as the marines) Being marina a female word, it is also a colloquial for the Spanish Navy branch (called officially Armada, also female)
