i met him in santa fe in early 2005, as i worked in a famous indian arts shop and he was looking for a concho belt for his sister which i tried on for him, he was super nice and polite and also was with his companion who did not look well, but i did enjoy our brief meeting, the next day his parents came in and they were very friendly too.

His accent is very cultivated - obviously as much a self-conscious affectation as the way he dresses. Much like Lagerfeld, Tom Ford understands the power of celebrity - in many ways he has the persona of a Hollywood actor. He has invented himself .....but that is not to say he is superficial.

In this piece it definitely seems a constructed performance. Years ago I saw him at a preview of his first film A Single Man, and his quietness, reserve and deference was striking. Colin Firth was also there and seeing his reaction to Ford’s comments about him landed in a very intimate way.
