The history of Coco Chanel - the INSANE full story of Chanel. How did a poor girl from an orphanage become the most famous fashion-designer of the 20th century, and build a business that is today worth billions of dollars? And how did Coco Chanel profit from two world wars and still survive, despite being labelled a secret Nazi spy? Welcome to the controversial life of Coco Chanel - and the rise, fall, and rise again, of a fashion empire. This is the story of Chanel’s multi-billion dollar business, including controversial strategies, great marketing lessons, and how the company became so big and successful. But it all begins on 19th August 1883, when Gabrielle Chanel was born into poverty in a small town in France, called Saumur. We’ll look at the inspirational rags to riches of Coco Chanel and how she became an entrepreneur, built the Chanel brand, and the controversial decisions that helped Chanel become a global fashion icon. Welcome to the INSANE story of Chanel by MagnatesMedia!

She was banished from Paris by the French Resistance when WW2 ended. She had to leave France because of her relationship/ lover of a high ranking Nazi officer. This was a woman who would do "Anything" to survive, the definition of opportinist doesn't even define it. The shame and scandal "Branded" her a treasonist to her country. Chanel No. 5 is an overbearing scent. I didn’t ever understand how it was so popular. I guess it makes sense it’s considered her “trademark.” It’s basically a representation of her character and drive in life. Super saddening she helped those monsters. May God have mercy on her soul. Great video 👏🏼

As a fashion design student back in the early 2010s, Coco Chanel's entrepreneur spirit and design innovations were simply revolutionary to study about during an assignment given to research on famous influential fashion designers of that era to see what they contributed to the fashion scene. .. and after learning about her backstory and her influence to women's fashion to the point of revolutionizing the women's fashion scene and the release from the corset is just awe inspiring to me. Am I ever grateful for her existence and designs cause now the modern women can wear more than tight dresses and corsets! Though I definitely didn't get to get into researching more about the uh, the more mysterious and unsavory things about her life since the focus was about her fashion legacy rather than entire life back then, but it's nice to learn more about things of her as a person beyond her as a fashion designer and entrepreneur, this is neat!
@sergpie
@sergpie Жыл бұрын
She didn't really do any that shady other than stealing the logo from a very old Roman jeweler (admittedly, so did Cartier, but no patent existed at the time for it). The fact that she "sided" with Nazi Germany is just a reminder that those that knew who was whom in 1930s Europe, knew that by turning against Germany, they would either be siding with the marauding Soviets, or the peace-averse British that were trying to get America involved in the conflicts any cost (Churchill is on record saying that he desired the bombing of London so as to get the USA involved, and refused a total of 13 known peace offers by Italy and Germany... It ought to be remembered that history is written by the victors, and any negative connotation about a given side in a conflict, is likely so because of said victors.

In separating the art from the artist you end up missing what inspires the art. If one ignores that Chanel was a double down nazi then they won't see the influence in Coco's work.
@sylvette.astoria
@sylvette.astoria Жыл бұрын
@@sergpie yeah, I'm not sure about everything that's non fashion related about her especially the nasi involvement since that was never the intent or focus of my research back then during the assignment, so even if the more questionable parts of her involvement in what you said is ambiguous and debatable by different assumptions to this day (I mean her entire life is shrouded with mystery) I really wouldn't have known exactly to what degree how 'shady' she is. Interesting to know more about her outside of the designer, and it's always good to learn more so those like me can be more aware at least
@sylvette.astoria
@sylvette.astoria Жыл бұрын
@@effers6854 I dont disagree with you here in general about art and the artist, but I am confused with your assumption on me 'ignoring' her involvement with the Nazi -- is this just a general remark? All I said was that my fashion studies on her following the asignment for a project was solely focused about her as a fashion designer + her contributions to women's fashion, not her entire history or her life so for sure back then when I was 15 in fashion college I have no idea about everything non fashion related in her life

As a long time fan of Chanel, her influence in fashion was an overwhelming revolution for women and feminism. No one can deny her impact. It seems Coco wanted to be on what she thought was the winning side for the business opportunities the connections could provide , later mopping up the moral repercussions that followed by "negotiating" with those she rightly felt could use their personal knowledge of her dubious activities to undermine her career. It's really a not-so-unusual scene in the high stakes business and political world, unfortunately....

For a woman to succeed as she did at that time, with such adversity, is testiment to her fortitude. If you notice, the 'producer' first establishes how she would often 'lie' about her past like having two aunts instead of coming from an orphanage and infer you couldn't believe anything she said because of that. Like he has no clue how, at that period in time, coming from an orphange would have closed doors, risked her safety and well being and guarentee her failure . Does he think male preditors are a recent thing? I suppose he sees nothing wrong with Sentors lying thier butts off to obtain a seat of power in congress though. sheesh. mysoginstic AO.

I mean, she is truly an icon of self empowerment of the weak and unlucky, nothing screams that more than helping and being complicit in the murder of the even weaker. There is a lot more to Chanel's "true" story, basically she was an orphaned seamstress, a cabaret girl who got deeply involved with the French aristocrats, the English royals, and the Nazis, (and of course Hollywood after the war, after all Monroe who was the most popular icon of her time made big publicity for the number 5) while getting big profits in wars and becoming an international fashion icon. Her collaboration with Germany earned her more profits while normal people were tried and punished...more incredible than a fairytale, maybe she had a "fairy" godmother or godfather.

Her favorite nephew was a French soldier that was captured and held as a POW by the Nazis. She had a relationship during the war with a German businessman who had a close relationship with the Nazi government. He spent much time living in the Riviera. She tried to get her nephew released.

A dead person is not really accountable but we need to know the historical facts. Present day company is also not accountable of past crimes but again history should be remembered. We can’t see Chanel just a fashion icon but there is also that dark past. Somehow dismissing that would be wrong. We can’t separate some part of a person from her politics or other actions. In a more severe scale it would be absurd like remembering Hitler without the war and crimes against humanity. Everyone who was involved with Nazis should be remembered as a person who was involved with them. It is a big stain in a reputation.

@Jennifer Vu some judge. Some do. Unfortunately to rise to a level one does have to play with the powerful. Or not participate at all... She came with nothing and made the most of it... Dealing with Nazi or many dangerous people also puts people at risk. From both sides. Nazi haters. Nazi lovers. You forget or skip the part where she had to support men in power as women were not allowed to have bank account. I say...she did great!

The actress in this video portraying Chanel looks like Audrey Tatou. Coco was so smart to design men's suits for women. That time period was torture for women with all those corsets and restraints! Her creations were so liberating! There was a flash of the movie My Fair Lady with Audrey Hepburn! This video just gets more and more interesting!

By the time Chanel was a big name, corsets were already much looser and more flexible, and many women were designing, although the few designers to become internationally famous were men.
