He was absolutely one of the very, very few people in the mid 2000s who was live streaming the host/guest format independently from the networks online, when the speed of the Internet at that point was barely able to keep up with a tiny ass 240p/480p live video. Before the iPhone was even released, for reference Massive respect to just tossing it all to the wind and seeing what would stick, especially after the hand he was dealt with cancer. 10 years later it becomes one of the most popular forms of entertainment.

He was doing the public pranks around the same time that Bam Margera was doing pre-Jackass under the CKY moniker. But Tom Green definitely precipitated the popularity of Jackass when it premiered on MTV. The self-contained Internet broadcast was truly groundbreaking though - doing live streaming or any equivalent of podcasting today with technology from the mid 2000s was a massive undertaking on a totally untapped market at a time when Skype was barely functional as a webchat/call service.

i hope one day when were all gone, history actually recognizes tom green as a trendsetter and how hes the first to do alot of things and also in general do many things. he basically created podcasting, he kinda pretty much created going in public and doing jokes consistently which shows like jackass kind of followed, he was in a rap band on mtv as a teen, he makes his own music and its pretty good, he wrote his own movie and directed it, dude is a legend but since hes generally labeled as just a comedian i dont think the world takes him seriously

I saw Tom Green live at a comedy club a few months ago, and he plays his keyboard live there. He played Bum Bum, Daddy Would you like Some Sausage, some other fun tunes, and then asks if we want to hear anything else. I yelled out "Piggy Hill." He laughed, then played it. No one else reacted but Tom and me. That was his second biggest hit after Bum Bum! Why were all those people there to see him when they knew so little about him?

The most recent Tom Green of this generation was Joji aka Filthy Frank aka plumbcorp, aka George Katsuni Miller. Seeing this interview with Tom Green makes me realize maybe George left Papa Franku behind at the right moment. Don't mean this as a dis towards Tom, I love Tom, but I wonder what would have happened if Tom had walked away from the reaction stuff to focus on other pursuits that were outside of his typecast.
