Most of my favorite entertainers are rebellious (and Conan is in his own way; the Contractually Prohibited Tour is like an incredible act of proactive resistance that harmed no one… which is a sweet and I’d argue very rare branch of rebelliousness), and I find it kind of charming and anachronistic - or like a nostalgic throwback - that Conan is so tied to ads. It’s part of his history, in his DNA, and he gives so much more of himself to the ad reads than… well, probably more than anybody asked for, tbh. But I get the sense Conan truly appreciates the support - and the freedom that comes with it - of his advertisers and wants to hold up his end of the bargain, so to speak. Contrast that with the sort of antics Hollywood Handbook or Your Mom’s House have played with sponsors over the years (and those are hilarious; well worth checking out even now), and like… yeah, for my money, Conan’s attitude and approach seem sweet and charmingly old-school to me.

Conan’s kids ain’t going to college for free - neither will sonas or Matt’s for that matter. I mean, maybe they will. I’m sure they’ll be bright kids with every opportunity to succeed. And actually maybe Conan’s kids do have full rides 😅 that wouldn’t shock me. But ain’t nothin in this world for free, and ads are annoying but like… that’s in Conan’s DNA. He’s a pitchman, spokesman, always has been bc of his stature/responsibilities on Late Night. What would Conan be without advertisers? I mean, a comedic once-in-generation talent, but he himself has said on numerous occasions that he’d be doing shtick at the water cooler of Initech or wherever without the success/money, and allllllll his success and money has been tied to pleasing the affiliates and advertisers for 40 odd years. Part of his charm, I say.
@elskirvoАй бұрын

@@elskirvo Totally Agree, this Kevin guy is pure Schizo lol
@laddy6910Ай бұрын
@@Kmichaelcook87 I get it, Conan’s successful and needs ads to keep his show running, but the issue isn’t about him needing ads, it’s about how they’re integrated into the content. No one’s saying Conan shouldn't have ads it's the fact that they’re often thrown in mid-sentence during his interviews disrupting the flow and making it harder to enjoy the moment. You can be a great pitchman and still make the viewer experience more enjoyable by being smarter about ad placement. The fact that Conan’s a comedic legend doesn’t mean he’s above a little constructive criticism.
