It's another way of asking what his sexuality is, or if he will give a little progressive speech on why it's such a great positive thing to tell the world about it. The reason is because the media are desperate to label celebrities, give them a stamp of approval as to whether they dislike them or not, and one way of doing this is to find out about their political beliefs. It also helps alot if you write for an entertainment magazine that is political, as you can then mention or compare them more easily in a positive or negative manner
