Definitely let it grow for now. You can eventually go the barber to trim the ends and even it out. Since you’ve never grown out your hair you’ll need a lot of patience as you go through the awkward stage

The first picture in this article, (www.wikihow.com/Trim-Sideburns-when-You%27re-Growing-Out-Your-Hair) is what I usually do. I trim down the side burns and trim some of the hairs in the area where the hair curves over the ear. But anything above the ear should be grown with the rest of your hair. Cleaning up the side burns will help it look less messy

Take a hairbrush and blow dry your hair as you brush your hair (slowly). This will help to make your hair go from curly to wavy. And yeah you can show pictures to whoever does your hair. It’ll be better to show multiple angles of the hairstyle you want

What I do is brush my hair and use a spray bottle on my hair and just kinda dampen it and I shake my head a little.

It’s possible but I would also recommend using the twist or scrunch technique with the sea salt spray. That should give you some waves
