The crowd that stays in front of that beast must be sick of their lives"

Living in england, tom hoover was a frequent visiter to santa pod and we all loved his " entertain the crowd" runs.

Tom and his family were brilliant competitor's, they always gave 100% to the sport of TF/FC.

What can one say? Nitro cars are the best. Makes the heart pump hard, gives you goosebumps just listening to the idle! Thwack the throttle and DAMN! Smiles from ear to ear. Thanks for sharing!! Big Al.

Every time I listen to one of these run, I laugh as I remember Don Garlits tell how he was ready to give up on the hemi in '65, and then discovered that nitromethane likes/needs lots of ignition timing (advanced) to get the power out of it.

DON GARLITS IS THE MAN
@boruff683 жыл бұрын
Yup, My all time FAVE Garlit's story also. He said he just got mad at it and jacked like 50 deg of lead in the mag and took it to the staging area. Normally the crew guys would go and feel the head temperature on the starting line after the burn out ,but on this pass they were not going to go anywhere near the car !!!! lmao.. . Ended up setting an ET record. ;)

He was not wanting to give up on the hemi, he was faster with his 392 hemi...the 426 needed more timing
@joeljenkins28762 жыл бұрын
@@mopar340dave yes: I should have qualified my statement with specifying ‘426’. However, it wasn’t just needing more timing by itself, but the fact that nitro burns slowly enough that more timing was a NECESSITY. At any rate, it was a great story!!!!! 🙂

You know Mopar just gave Big Daddy a brand new race car. To see if he wanted to innovate anything new on it.

I'd love to be that close to a Top Fueler firing up! Only thing that'd make it better would be to get in the cockpit and then have them fire it up!

There probably wasn't a lot of nitro in the tank or the lady on the right (eating lunch) would have quickly exited the area.

Nostalgia FCs are limited to 80% nitro and a much smaller supercharger (with a lot less overdrive) than their current NHRA counterparts. She couldn't have stood there with it idling if that were John Force's car, let alone when they whacked it. Still, these old schoolers have a beautiful cackle I could listen to for hours.
