The Surfers car sounded more robust than anyone else's top fuel car because Tom Jobe knew what he was doing with nitromethane.

Very fitting way to honor a friend. :) I had swapped emails with Tom years ago when he was still with Honda. I watched all of Mr. Pitts videos. Wonderful tribute to the past. :)

So much more emotionally stirring than any current car, the old cars and people that built the sport with little money but lots of talent were and will forever be the heroes of the sport. Thanks to Bill Pitts he was able to capture the "vibe" of the culture during the heyday of the short WB FED dragster period but most of all Tom Jobe will be forever immortalized on video and that to me is priceless.

My favorite Top Fuel team I read the story years ago . I don't know if it was Tom or who it was I'm getting old and don't remember. their father was a dentist and they drilled all these holes for the fuel injection and they started running 200 lbs fuel press. riding around the pits on surfboards acting like they didn't know what they were doing I love it. Then sadly the wreck in the driver was killed broke my heart my heart

Was lucky & honored to hear Tom speak at the Bakersfield Smokers March Meet dinner. As a youngster growing up in LA in the 60's, days spent body surfing and nights spent at the dragstrip was the norm. Thank you Mr. Jobe, and all The Surfers.....will remember you kindly, always & forever 😎

Those were the days my friend. We thought they’d never end. They’re would always be a 100 cars looking for 64 spots They’re would always be a way for three guys to put a car together and go racing. I was wrong about a lot of things in my life but I lived in the best years in history.

Unfortunately I never met Tom. I did watch all the Surfers videos, by Bill Pitts. I did get to see the Surfers car at the GNRS. It was a great experience to speak with Bob about his version of that car. Nice guy. Looking forward to more Surfers cackles in the future. Thanks Bob. RIP Tom Jobe.

That's how I want to go out as well. Turn me into dust and send me out the exhaust of a fuel burning 392 Chrysler !!! Tom Jobe was a smart kid tinkering with going fast , when no one knew how to go fast. What a great time to be in it man and his stories are phenomenal. Check out " The Surfers " series on utube .
