Tom Jones gave Janis Joplin what she always needed; a great backing band. Joplin worked best with equally talented people. Big Brother, while solid, weren’t on her level. This band is hot, dead in her zone. And Tom complements and pushes her to new levels. She gave her all on this. Her gratitude radiates.

You don't usually see this kind of charged spirit onstage between two vocalists very often, usually performers give off "we were forced to be together" vibes and they stick to their own separate part. But here Janis is being her effervescent self, filling in all the silence while Tom tries so hard to follow her lead. She's really showing him how it's done! It's great to see them both having a blast. Janis even started grinding on the dance floor with him! The energy between them is wonderful.

never knew they ever sang together! I've been a huge Janis fan from the beginning. What a meteor she was! Burned out far too young, but it seemed everyone was dying back then, one after another. There was so much amazing talent. Robbie Robertson knew what he was doing when he quit touring 5 years later. It seemed survival had become a crap shoot, and the odds weren't great. Thanks for reacting to this. Not a Tom Jones fan, but this was really fun.

Loved loved loved Janis and Tom together! A lot of soul coming out of those two. Have always loved both and I am 57...58 next month. I've listened to both since I was a child. Sad that Janet AND Jimi both passed in 1970. 😪 There were a number of people who died at 27 years old. 😔

I hope he gave Janis a little, because every dude was cullin' poor Janis. She wasn't very easy on the eyes. It's a different story for the ears though!

Tom and Janis. Never seen this before. I saw a video of Tom performing live for BBC radio 2 earlier this year. He still has 'it,', and is an absolute welsh national treasure!

We were so, so lucky to have lived through the sixties, the music talent we had to enjoy I'll be forever grateful for. We'll never see the likes of them again, they were innovators every genre was new and exciting

It’s great seeing these old films where the audience is in the groove. Fast forward to the 21st century the audience would be transfixed filming it all on their mobile phones. Wish I’d had the chance to see the amazing Janis Joplin perform. I’ve seen Tom and he is still a great entertainer. Keep up the great work JJ. You’re a star . Happy new year fella.

There have been titanic female vocalists since Janis: Ann Wilson, Linda Ronstadt, Pat Benatar, Aretha of course. Even Alanis, Stevie Nicks and others. But no one had the grit, soul and combination thereof of Janis. No one.
