Leon Russell wrote this about RITA COOLIDGE, his back up singer. And forevermore, has been referred to as THE DELTA LADY. She also debuted her song "SUPERSTAR", which she wrote loosely based on her affection for ERIC CLAPTON. THE CARPENTERS and her beautiful voice made the song famous. Rita is singing next to the black girl in the NON Woodstock video of Joe's "Help with my friends". Rita Coolidge was also married to Kris Kristofferson. Her voice is like butter. KRIS KRISTOFFERSON also wrote "ME and BOBBY MCGEE" (and about a hundred more that have been recorded by over 400 people). Most famously sung by sweet JANIS JOPLIN. Omg, there's so much more on Rita, Clapton, Duane Allman of the ALLMAN BROTHERS. I suggest you listen "LAYLA" by Eric Clapton. They all had a hand in that beautiful masterpiece.

Tom Jones was always a blues and soul singer at heart but his record company pushed him into the sex symbol image. It worked and so it continued. But his later albums of the last few years show him getting to what he really wanted to sing. Darker and moodier. And he still has the voice to pull it off. Other unlikely collaborations: Lulu singing The Man who Sold the World with backing vocals and sax from David Bowie along with The Spiders from Mars; Jimi Hendrix singing Mockingbird with Dusty Springfield on her show.
@jetobey56563 жыл бұрын
A truly special duet by two powerful forces. A song by Leon Russell, written for Rita Coolidge who was with the "Mad Dogs" tour. There are others, but nobody gives more of himself to the glory of the music; he is still doing it, yet today. PS--Leon's base structure for this song (piano composed) was indeed, Southern Gospel, my other deep love. I believe Joe is in Gloryland in the arms of the Trinity. Leon is already there (2016), both so sorely missed.

Brother Jamel!!! Your infectious personality and genuine love and enjoyment of the music is what sets you apart from other "Reactors." Seeing you react to Joe Cocker gives me an idea for how you can kick it up yet another notch. Appreciating a song or a performance for its own merit is one thing. But sometimes you have to know the *context* before you can REALLY appreciate it. See, back in the day, before the current popularity of "sampling" a song, artists would "cover" the whole song. And sometimes only by knowing the original version can you fully appreciate just how good the "cover" version is. For instance, in 1967 The Boxtops had a hit with a song called "The Letter." I loved it. Then, in 1970, Joe Cocker covered it on Mad Dogs and Englishmen. Wow!! Blew the doors off it!! I think you should play both versions on one reaction. Other great examples are The Beatles "Here Comes the Sun" then Richie Havens' cover. Bob Dylan's "All Along the Watchtower" then Jimi Hendrix' cover (and then even Dave Mason's cover). "MacArthur Park" by Donna Summer (originally by Richard Harris). "Proud Mary" by Ike and Tina Turner (originally by Creedence Clearwater Revival). And many more. Even one of my personal favorites, "Love Potion No. 9" by the Searchers (even they were covering the original by the Clovers) then the version done by James Durbin on American Idol. Wow!! Fantastic cover!! What do you think Jamel???? Leave those other "Reactors" in the dust. Just like the journey you are on, show some of the "journey" of the songs themselves.
