Dang, LC, this is more like an online coaching clinic than a video channel. Incredible content. P I don't know if there's enough available footage to support a stand alone video, but the right side of Landry's d-line did some really funky stuff throughout his entire career. Harvey Martin and Randy White, in particular, were always moving, shifting, and doing some crazy stunts. Harvey, btw, belongs in both the Ring of Honor and Hall of Fame, and I guarantee White would second that. They worked together on the line just about as well as Harris and Waters did in the backfield.

In fact, I recently conducted a study on this particular subject, which I plan on sharing soon. Surprisingly, almost half of the coaches in the league, including assistant coaches, have been positively influenced by either Landry himself or one of Landry's esteemed coaches or coaches' coaches.

He was my childhood role model. No one outside of family has made a bigger impact on my life. I consider it a blessing to have been alive to witness the man's accomplishments. As great of a coach as he was he was he was an even better man. Class personified and I still miss him dearly to this day. Thanks Coach Landry and I'll see you on the other side someday.

Thanks for making this video. I think younger fans dont realize hiw great he was. He invented the 4-3 defensive that’s still used today. He also designed the defensive and offensive game plans for every game and called all the offensive plays during the game.

Thanksgiving Day 1974. I watched my first, televised, football game. Been a fan ever since. I was introduced to Tom Landry, Roger Staubach, and Drew Pearson. Cowboys are down 16-3 to Washington. Staubach gets hurt and Clint Longley leads a come from behind victory. I was hooked. You had to be there in the 70's to really understand how great Tom Landry was, how dominate he was. Amazing breakdown of his career, amazing content. It illustrates Tom Landry is the GOAT!

God, family team was his life. Watched them all those years and attended many of the games, we always knew there was a great chance of winning. When Roger was playing, he never got beat, just ran out of time on some games. After Jimmy was fired, it has been a carousel of coaches and QB's who are and were, barely a shadow of Coach Landry and his teams. Great research and thank you!

I love Tom Landry. He was the coach when I started following the Cowboys as a kid. Landry is one of the greatest coaches of all time. Definitely in the top ten. Arguably in the top five. Unfortunately he can’t be considered the greatest because he couldn’t beat Lombardi for a championship in the 60s and couldn’t get by Noll in the 70s. Just one win over each of them would’ve cemented Landry as the greatest.

I became a Cowboys fan in 1977 (they were on TV a lot!) and that time period was a great time to be a Cowboys fan. Tom Landry will always be my favorite Cowboys coach, he is the architect that put the team on the map. My man!!!!! I lack the words to describe the excellence in your research and videos so I'll just say well done again! What you just showed is why fans of a certain age have a bitter frustration towards the teams today. I'm an Austin boy born in 1966 so for the first 18 years of life elite Cowboy teams were the norm. Them winning was as consistent as the seasons and playoff runs were expected. The Cowboys were always taken seriously, unlike today. They were always a legitimate super bowl contender and when they did lose a playoff game, it wasn't taken as "the cowboys are an accident waiting to happen" like today. That player was Duane Thomas. Duane was one of the best backs I've ever seen. Second coming of Jim Brown type of talent. And he was doing what a lot of young black men were doing at the time by making their voice heard in regard to social injustice. Unfortunately, Duane also fell into heavy drug use which derailed what would have been an incredible career. I know for a fact, however, that Coach Landry and some of his teammates -- Staubach, in particular -- were there for him when he entered recovery after a second attempt to play with the Cowboys in the late 70's. I know for a time Duane was doing well. Very smart guy. Almost too smart, cause I think he overthought things, sometimes. Hope he's doing well.

Another great video and some amazing stats. I grew up in the D.C. area and during the 70s there was a popular radio call in sports show hosted by a gentleman named Ken Beatrice. I used to listen and call in prior to every NFL season to ask his predictions. I distinctly remember him always saying that 'man for man the Dallas Cowboys have the best roster of any team in the league." They may not have won the Super Bowl every year but they were always competitive and as you've pointed out always in the playoffs. What a great time to be a Cowboys fan!

This is the new Best ever video. Like many of Landry's records, this one will never be topped. I remember in the early 90's how the children that called themselves fans said Landry's time had passed. Then, that piece of crap, Jones fired him. Jones has never been worthy to stand in Landry's shadow. If Landry were the measurement of a man, Jones would have to wear a skirt. Don Schula was another great, but Tom Landry will always be number one. Thank you for bringing all this to light for the youngsters. It's important to know where we came from if we are ever going to understand how far we have fallen.

All that success has a lot to do with why the team became both loved and hated by so many fans. Tom Landry WAS the Dallas Cowboys for the first 3 decades of their existence. It makes me mad as Hell how horribly he was treated by the fans in the last years he was with the team. 3 years of struggle and they were ready to burn him in effigy. Now here we are 28 years removed from the last Cowboy Super Bowl win or even NFC Championship game appearance with no end to the futility in sight. People took him and his success for granted and now we are living with the curse of Jerry Jones because of it.

I was 8 from Worcester mass in 1980. My dear grandfather Danka said during the 80 NFC Title game " Bryan this is my team - Americas team - Gods team and now your team " and they were big time from 80 to 86. As time went on I strictly became a Pats fan - but my early years I was all about the Cowboys !! Till this day this era of cowboys football means everything to me and brings back such great memories of that era. Lots of heartache for me ! But I am glad my grandfather who died was able to see them win in 71 and 77. I never got to see that. And by the time Jerry Jones and Jimmie Johnson got there my and my grandfather no longer had those feelings for the cowboys. I wish I could have seen them play in just 1 super bowl during those early 80's year !! That would have been Xmas times 100 for me !!

Landry was class during his tenure as head coach. The epitome of innovation, stoicism, and success without ego. Most Cowboys fans did feel that change was needed after the 20 straight winning seasons when we went 7-9, 7-8, 3-13 and not winning a playoff game since 1982, but Jerry Jones should have been more respectful in bringing in a change of the guard. Unfortunately, Mr. Jones perceived behavioral traits encompassing his ego and irrational decision making remains to this day - hence Dallas Cowboys have not been close to a SuperBowl since 1995. Astounding information. And here’s another incredible bit of added information. From 1966-1982, Tom Landry led the Cowboys to the championship game 12 times in just 17 seasons. In that, they won 5 conference championships, played in 5 Super Bowls, having won 2 of them, and was the only NFC team to win a Super Bowl until Joe Montana led the 49ers to a victory in SB XVI against the Bengals. Also, as much as the drafting mentality created some poor drafts during the 1980’s, some of Jimmy Johnson’s great players were because of what took place during the Landry years. Guys like Michael Irvin, Ken Norton, Jr, Mark Tuinei, Nate Newton, Kevin Gogan, Bill Bates, Jim Jeffcoat and Herschel Walker was already there. Plus there is no doubt that Troy Aikman would have been the selection had Landry and Schramm had they stuck around for one more year.

If for no other reason, Coach Landry deserves recognition for bringing Pure Speed into the pro game. I distinctly recall that he was roundly criticized for adding Bob Hayes to the Cowboys. "That guy's a track sprinter, not a football player" was the noise. But once BH caught a pass or got past the line on a run, ain't nobody catching him! This addition is now copied at all levels of football, but it was Coach Landry who pioneered this offensive tactic.

Add to this, that his personnel completely turned over several times. That puts him only in the company of Don Shula of coaching greatness. Other great coaches, Lombardi, Belichick, Walsh, Brown, Noll, etc, had at least a stable starting Quarterback situation, and often great continuity on the entire team. Moreover, their success faded after their team core aged or retired. Even in his twilight, I would argue that Landry's teams were overachieving for their talent level, in particular the 1988 Cowboys. Many of their statistics were respectable, and they were competitive in most of their losses even against playoff competition.

You just don't know what you've got until it's gone. Coaches like Landry, Don Shula, Vince Lombardi, George Halas, Bud Grant, and more recent guys like Mike Ditka and Bill Parcells were Old School that were cast in a different mold. The players knew where they stood with them and gave them respect. The league could stand to have more coaches like them now. They didn't put up with the childish, disrespectful, and selfish behavior that we see in so many players now.

Tom Landry, was the defensive coordinator with the Giants when they were winning championships. Vince Lombardi, was the offense coordinator on that same Giants team. It didn't take either one of them to start at the absolute bottom when they became head coaches. When Landry took over that expansion team, they were the second smallest market in the NFL, behind Green Bay.

This is what many people don't acknowledge. When you won, you picked later in the draft. Despite all the wins Landry's picks and training, and the scouting, kept the Cowboys on top! Chuck Knoll lost his horses and lost his position. George Allen, even Vince Lombardi had trouble with the teams Landry put on the field. Jones showed a distinct lack of decorum and respect for the man who made the Cowboys worth following and ultimately buying.

Coach Landry didn't have Tom Brady or today's soft NFL rules. Coach Landry won all those games, Division Titles, playoff games, and Super Bowls with different players at all positions including QB for 20 straight years. Yes Coach Landry had key players, but some of those key players were drafted in late rounds because the Cowboys always drafted late cause we almost always finished FIRST. Coach Landry is my favorite Cowboy of ALL TIME for his resilience, innovations, and hard work!

Do you know how many times Landry was shut out during his coaching career & the number of games from the first in 1970 to the next one in 1985? Plus how many times did he get shut out between 1960 to that Monday night game in 1970? I'm sure that both of those maybe note worthy & over looked records. That's not a record my guy. Other teams have done that before. But look at this list! Steelers only went to the superbowl just once in 26 years Green Bay went 30 years in their franchise before going to a sb Washington Commanders is presently in their 33rd year. The Eagles went 30+ years in their franchise before going to the superbowl. Patriots went 30 years before seeing their first SuperBowl. I can go on and on but I think you get the picture.

The key distinction between Dallas and the Patriots lies in the fact that Dallas managed to establish dynasties in two separate decades, with changes across coaching staff, players, and ownership. On the other hand, the Patriots had a single dynasty under one coach and one quarterback. Being "Tom Landry" will never be broken. As a former Cowboys fan, I'm pleased that Jerry "Jackass" Jones hasn't been to the Super Bowl in nearly 30 years. When Landry was fired, I dumped Dallas for good.

Try his Issa great video. He is my favorite coach of any sport. Second would be Jimmy Valvano. Tom Landry was first class. I think all coaches should dress professionally. He stood out and everyone knew he meant business. He had respect from everyone or they didn’t stay, no matter how good they were. If you don’t believe that ask Hollywood Henderson. I miss you Tom Landry.

That would be a good video, stacking up achievements of those coaches. Noll had a a decade, but didn't achieve much that I am aware of after that. Beli is a good coach but Brady was the real difference maker that put them in another league. I don't know enough about Halas and Lombardi to speak knowledgeably about them.

True but Noll defeated my beloved Cowboys twice. In fact The Steel Curtain had Staubach running for his life. Running games weren't effective, Landry had no answer for the Curtain. Should of played a deep zone against Swann

None of those coaches had 20 consecutive winning seasons, and none called the plays on both sides of the ball. Landry was singular. There literally was nobody like him before or after. As close to a one man coaching staff as there ever was or could be.

It’s still impressive but the top 10 in sacks in the 60’s isn’t as impressive when you remember there were only 14-16 teams in the NFL those years before the merger.

But it is impressive if he was second in sacks 4 years in a row! Which he was. From 1966-1969 Landry's defense was either first or second in the league in sacks. He wasnt just cracking the top ten in the 60s. He was the best team in sacks in the league for almost a half of decade. Thanks Sak!
