As a law abiding, gun owner, I have no issues with song whatsoever. I think he speaks to the truth of the issue. We as a society are so enthralled in social media, phones, TV/Internet that we aren't giving our kids/loved ones the attention that they may need. It's not the schools, TVs or other peoples job to teach your kids right from wrong. It's yours as a parent. My wife and I are getting ready for our first child and we have had long in depth conversations about this. It's things like dinners will be eaten at a table, with no TV/phones allowed. We will talk as a family, go out and do things as a family, not just sit inside and watch TV/movies. When they grow up they will have to be involved in some sort of extracurricular activity be it sports, taking up an instrument, something. They will have absolutely no need for a cell phone before a certain age, and when they eventually do get one, it doesn't need to be a smart phone. It's for emergency's, talking to us when we may not be home etc. I appreciate not just this song, but all of his music. I don't always agree with his views, but the point he is trying to get across in his music resonate with me. And it shows that even with differing opinions, people can agree on major issues.

This is exactly how my parents raised my brother and I. There was no such thing as "chores" around the house/yard. We were "expected" to do what needed to be done. No phones were allowed at the dinner table. We didn't have a phone until we were in high school and that was because we were in sports and drove. If there was a disagreement within the family, we sat down all together and had a meeting and discussed the issues and we were not to move until they all were resolved. My parents taught us how to handle firearms at a VERY young age and was constantly drilled on gun safety until we were able to be tested in our sleep. As a 2A supporter I agree with you. Gun rights have become political and I completely support the message he's trying to get across. My brother is a very respected captain in the US Army and my husband is a US Marine. If we are blessed with children one day, I'll raise them exactly as my brother and I were. My husband is just as serious about gun safety. Like you said, it's up to the parents to raise their kids, to teach them right from wrong.

Thank you for this perspective. Everyone hears things differently based on their own life experiences. I was offended the first time I listened because I assumed he was blaming guns. As a law abiding gun owner that started hunting when I was 8, was given a 4-10 shotgun for Christmas when I was 12 and taught my son gun safety when he was 10 and have been taking him to the range at least annually for the last 8 years I think I can speak from experience that guns are not the problem. I've never had a gun sneak out of my closet an go commit a crime. When I was in 5th grade, I went to conservation camp and learned gun safety (aced that course since I was already well taught by my father) and I think that we need to get back to that. Guns are a tool. Used properly, they benefit society. Used improperly they can destroy society. It's not the guns fault.

I came here seeking a reason to dislike this artist based on comments I read on another video of his. I really enjoyed the other song but didn't want to invest much time listening to his music if he is pushing the gun control agenda.. After listening, I agree, This is not a hit on guns, this is about moral decay and responsibility. This song is just fine in my book.

Exactly. We don't want politicians making money off of bullet holes, which is exactly what gun control is. The land of the free is armed to the teeth. It's no coincidence that gun violence is worse where it's prohibited, because there is nothing but the thin blue line to protect you ...eventually ...unless their de-funded. What's that called? Treason? Accessory to murder? Manslaughter at least, right? Americans have the fortitude and the ability to solve it's own problems, but first they have to be empowered to do so. Instead of State protections like qualified immunity for police officers, we need blanket good Samaritan protections so we are permitted to help each other. Instead of generating sitting ducks called gun-free, we should be bettering the education of guns. Remember when guns in the classroom were actually classroom guns? You never heard of any school shootings back when the schools taught the shooting, did you? When government steps in, people die. When will any of these policy makers be held accountable?

I heard about that virginia thing but i believe if the government want our guns they'd shut down or even destroy our electrical grids and water purification plants and just wait for us to submit. I believe they think they have us under control regardless of how many person guns we have we couldn't stand up to them realistically. Correct though, people who do nothing bad with guns would make for very boring news and nobody would watch it, leading to less commercial money so we need to show the bad stuff.

It shows a timer as soon as the 911 call goes out and stops when the cops finally get there.. And it let's you hear exactly what's happening to the people on the other end of the line in the meantime. What surprised me was even the people who lived right by police stations were waiting 20 mins or more. Plus most times the cops don't run right in when they know someone is armed. Even if they get there in less than 10 mins. A lot can happen in just a few mins. So you're on your own.

What is with these comments? He doesn't say anything about wanting to take guns away or government control of them, are you even listening? He's talking about causes beyond the gun itself, like: neglecting children and letting technology raise them, making celebrities out of shooters by plastering their names and faces everywhere, not teaching responsibility or morals, being careless about firearm storage, politicians using shootings and victims for their own gain, dismissing tributes for the fallen in favor of exploiting the shock and spectacle of the crime, etc. The message is not that guns kill people, but precisely that badly raised people kill people. We need healthy respect and responsibility around guns to go along with our right to own them. Listen to it again.

Guns aren't the issue, the lack of respect for life is. I've known kids who grew up around and with guns and never would have even considered shooting anyone, unless it was to defend themselves and/or those they love. If we actually still taught our children the value of life, along with gun safety, then these school shootings would be nonexistent. I wouldn't say anything if I hadn't actually seen it for myself. I used to be all for "common sense gun laws". Now I'm against all gun laws. But I have also taught my kids how to value the life of all of God's creatures. Take away our guns and regular, responsible , tax paying citizens have no proper way to defend ourselves. Only legit criminals will own them.

@Trevor Brannon Lmfao. Don’t tell me you are gullible enough to buy into the leftist plot « violent video games invite violence among teenagers » ... By the way, the story you are talking about happened in a Loundoun county school, in which a transgender student raped a girl in the bathroom. I don’t see how this story and your anti-gun rhetoric have any sense in being used together, since the story is about transgender immunity in the face of a leftist agenda, and not, in any way, about gun. You think kids, specifically girls, should bring guns to their school bathrooms to protect themselves ?? I don’t understand
@JIMWESTDG
@JIMWESTDG 6 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, the way I interpreted his message was not that we need to repeal the 2nd amendment, take away our guns, or anything like that, but that they are being used as a tool to commit these acts of violence and that it comes from the parents being so distracted with their phones and other technology that they aren't teaching their kids values or morals. I was raised around guns, taught how to properly use them and the value of human life. I was also one of those kids that had access to guns and was bullied all throughout my childhood and teenage years, yet I still never grabbed one of our guns to seek out revenge on anyone. Do the guns belong to you? Who made the guns? Should the mentally-ill have possession of firearms? I'm siding with Tom. I've been bullied at work. Someone wanted to help me. She sent me an email, which I assumed others were blind carbon copies. I deleted it as if I never read it. I didn't need help. Next thing I know I'm summoned to my ex-boss office. I had "handlers" beside me. He wanted to institutionalize me, i.e., have me undergo a mental evaluation courtesy of the government. I declined. He was "disappointed" in my selection. I ended up quitting. The guy would not leave me alone.

They profit from recidivism. Thats why they push the illegal and dumb shit they do. So if fathers come back and kids get discipline and folks stop going to jail that's messing with their money. It's not a gun issue, it's the moral issue, rather the lack of. I taught mine from the young age of 2, they learned to respect the tool, know why we use them, why we need them and to never even point a muzzle at anything you do not intend to shoot. "Make the choice and rationalize if you should pull the trigger, once you do, you can call the bullet back." Keep it real Tom! Lookin forward to seeing you in Missoula in September!!
