I mean, I’m a white guy, and I’m sorta conservative but socially liberal and “If I was black” made me think a LOT. Not that I agree with everything but it did help me open conversations with a lot of my friends, black/white/or any other race. It was a great video because it let me thinking a little more openly. I thought the track was a SERIOUS dialogue starter. That’s the most important thing; us talking.

I felt like "whiteboy" and "if I was black" are not conflicting but parallels both are a view point from a white mans perspective of what he himself can see and has been told by black people. Simply put:" if I was black" says I hear and see whats happening to black people it's real and I've noticed the injustice you are facing... whiteboy: is offering a look into the misconceptions and judgements a person whose white is facing based solely on what he was born looking like, both songs condemn mistreatment and embrace how both races can never walk in each others shoes but they can see eachother walking.

I feel Tom on black people's hair for real. I've made the same comment and some black people responded back with things like "WHY?" or, "We want your hair!" Some White people would say sarcastic things or call me stupid for saying things like "I want hair like that." I've always been a huge fan of what can be done with black ppl hair, theirs just so much and so many ways. From my experience, I braid my hair in rows and I have little hairs that stick out and drive me nuts. I guess in generally some people desire things they could never have cause they want the experience. Doesn't matter what culture or race you come from we have all felt that way at some point. I've been treated like I was being racist for saying things like that in the past. Tom MacDonald is doing his part in breaking down those barriers to make people see through other people's eyes. I live in the South and racism still exists and it makes me sick to my stomach litterally. Because you feel blind hate you're denying yourself and other people experiences that we are all support to have so we can ascend beyond the walls of cultural segregation. We all have a part in this Simba is doing his and so is Tom. The time for ignorance can no longer be excused. I'm just greatful because I don't feel like the only one, like it did when I was growing up.

Some of those songs about complex ideas are very surface level he said..just a 3min song with very ABC/basic points on some of these issues and his view on them, meant to get people talking... and it’s up to them to dive deeper... and here people were criticizing some of those songs for being too surface level and then talking more about the topic in detail. Ironic, but definitely having the desired effect on even people who don’t like the songs. Keep it up Tom!
