Only thing I can say is, I'm white and have no privilege. I work at a warehouse and barely get by. Sure could use some generational wealth passed down. And there are many white people i know the are in the same boat. I was never taught to see color. My parents raised me to love people for their character, nothing else.

White privilege isn’t money based.. that’s where a lot of people are confused. It’s being able to walk into a store without being followed by employees, it’s being able to have a nice walk without being stoped and harassed by police. Those are just a few examples

Where I grew up being poor mattered more because there was such a small minority population. Cops fucked with us because of family names with bad reputations, having a shitty car, or being into counter culture. The white privilege here benefitted kids who had better families and wealth. Also I AM NOT saying I don't have privilege, just how that privilege is manifested depends on where you grew up.

Imagine calling out the federal reserve everyday on public transit for 30 days and then have military people surround you in a grocery story for 5 mins now: (count 30 seconds outloud and see how long that takes) all of them straight looking right at you each one of them...not even 2 feet away from the shopping cart you are pushing...with the emotional look of that they are going to tear your head off.. and then you ask after, if you could help them because you finally notice that they are zeroing only on you and no one else, then count another 30 seconds again after said respone.... ..and then.... all of them walk away at the same time from where you and your cart was surrounded; just scattering... leaving different directions??!... and you are too confused to follow any of them because the reality of what just happened hasn't fully sunk in yet....... and again all because you used ypur 1st ammendment right to point out exactly what you found out about the Fed.Reserve... and finding out that it is not a Federal Anything... It is actually a Privately Owned Company By One of the Family's that was stated by T-Mac..... ( p.s.) I am a trained observer I was a Firefighter/EMS.. Where we are Conditioned to Look at situations that could possibly be dangerous to either ourself or more importantly others... You can believe it or not... Let's not forget about the history that isn't taught in our schools... Only the rich people owned slaves, not your average white person.. also There were black slave owners. There were also white slaves. White people didn't create slavery but Americans, white and black together, were the first to end it. Most of the africans in the slave trade ended up in South america and the caribean, not north america.

@@IrrationalBstrd I dont know if we were the first, but that's really not the issue. The fact is we did, and there were many white men that died to make it so. I personally have ancestors who fought on both sides of the civil war, and I am proud of that heritage. Yes, even they great great X whatever grandfather who fought for the South. I feel like Slavery was wrong and shouldn't have been fought for but I respect a man who can stand up and fight and die for what he feels his rights are. I wish his cause had been a morally correct one. It was NOT, but look if you send federal troops against my family and neighbors, I will resist too. I will not be ruled. I don't want to hurt anyone, I dont want to oppress anyone, But I wont be fucked with, and neither will those around me who can't stand up for themselves. I have one more interesting ancestor... now that I think of it, my great great great grandfather (or great great, something like that... It could have just been my great grandfather, because my grandma had some native american features, in retrospect) married a native american, so I have a slight tinge of creek indian which is neat (on my mom's side). I'm not aware of and don't remember hearing any civil war stories, so I don't think I had any here at that time. I know for a fact that my ancestors on my dad's side didn't even come here until the early 1900s...my dad's mother was from the former czechoslovakia, so a slav... I believe the word "slave" is actually derived from that, but I could be wrong. It was interesting to hear your story. 👍 I'm going to have to ask some questions and get the story straight, I suppose I really should know... It just wasn't something anyone ever made a big deal out of (nationalities, heritage etc etc). What I think most people aren't aware of is, even though I'm "white" or caucasian, many of our own ancestors were subjected to slavery as well in the old country, some at the same time as slavery was happening here in America.

@@IrrationalBstrd I get where you're copming from some of my people were Irish in the north and treated like slaves but noting can compare to the atrocities committed in the South at that time, nor for the slavers of any color stealing and selling people into bondage. I make no excuses for it. Some may or may not have been my ancestors. Nothing I can do about that EXCEP{T make sure the history is not forgoten and that I raise children who will not stand for it. At this point government oppression is NOT a racial matter it is an economical and class issue. I've done oil field work in the patch out in West Texas. I have worked with white brown black and yellow and I can tell you this. When a man is swinging a sledge hammer at a hammer union you are holding, you dont give a shit what color he is, you just care that he aint gonna miss. The ironic part is that I'm a white guy and I lost a few white friends for sharing Tom's song for the message they carry and I was labelled as a racist because of that for some reasons. The percentage that owned slaves was few, from a US census: "There were 393,975 slave owners in the United States out of a total population of 31,183,582, or 1.26 percent of the population." If you just look at the confederacy, it was 3.22 percent of the population that owned slaves, so if you see a white person the chance that his ancestors had slaves is pretty low

My favorite part is the first slave owner in the Americas was black and at the time of the Civil War the free Blacks owned slaves. Plus who was selling the slaves in Africa in the first place, the same ones that are doing it today.

I grew up in a racially mixed family, but because I'm white, assumptions are made. I live in a racially mixed neighborhood where I'm the only white female and my neighbor across the street assumed I was, as she put it, "stuck up" when we finally met. When she understood that the reason I wasn't able to socialize was that I was tending a small urban homestead, caring for a sick husband and recovering from a bad wreck, she apologized. Now, we wave and chat when we can. A family from Mexico moved in next to me and I met them over the fence. They saw me working on clearing debris from an ice storm, brought over a chain saw and made quick work of getting it manageable. I tried to pay him and he laughed and said, "that's what neighbors do..we take care of each other." If the whole world could just be like my neighborhood, we'd all be a lot happier.

My mom and I, if we worked in an office together and weren't related, would probably never be friends. We'd be *friendly*, but our blood and our upbringing are almost all that we have in common. Great point towards the end about people having more in common within their tax bracket. I came from an extremely poor small town, and when I went to college, my best friends were from the 'hood because I couldn't relate to the mostly rich folks that were there. Even to this day, I feel more comfortable in the country or in an urban black setting than I do at the country club that I can now afford.

Same here. I'm white but I came from a very poor household and both my parents were alcoholics. I got kicked out and lived on the street for almost an entire year at 17. Couldn't get an apartment or nothing cause I wasnt legally an adult. White privilege is a myth. It really boils down to money. Money privilege definitely exists. I'm 57 years old. I heard a couple of Tom McDonald's songs and thought I checking out on KZbin. I had no idea that people reviewed songs on KZbin. I've been feeling like there's no hope for the generations to come, But listening to KZbin feels my heart with hope. I was born and raised for the 1st 28 years of my life in Southern California. And I have never felt as much racial tension as I have in the last 10 years. I feel like the world has gone crazy. Look at videos from the late sixties early seventies. We loved each other. Seriously, when I was getting taught the whole slavery and segregation thing, the teachers always made it feel like it was our fault. There was a lot of emotional pressure on the topics and they made it seem like we did this to them. There was a lot of "you, me, we, them" even though I had nothing to do with it. They made it seem like it happened last week and not a long time ago.

@@BradAndLex there was controversy up here years ago about teachers (and their unions) supporting a curriculum change and teaching (more like brainwashing) kids, 'white guilt' ; that they are racist and should be ashamed and feel guilty for being born 'white' luckily TEACHERS don't make curriculum decisions, but school BOARDS do. My kids get taught that stuff in school, I’ll yank my kids from their diverse school, and put them in a predominantly white private school. I don’t want to do that, because there is a lot of value to sending kids to a diverse school, but I’m not having my kids indoctrinated into some BS, where racism is being perpetuated.

If we take our blinders off and go back to the beginning of time, conquering of land has always happened by the human race. If you throw them back on back then, it didn’t start with the whites. Most people didn't own slaves just the few rich & powerful which included some Black slave owners otherwise Black Americans would overwhelmingly be the majority population even back then when the population was much smaller. Also 600,000+ people died to free the slaves most of whom were Young White Men. Lastly after hundreds of years of immigration (legal and illegal) which is the reason the the Hispanic population far out numbers the Black population. There are very few who are direct family descendants of slave owners & even slaves when compared to the population as a whole

That's what's always annoyed me. My family immigrated to America to escape the wars in Europe. My wife was born and raised in Europe. I'm second generation, she's fresh off the boat. (Britian was #1 for conquering the planet and seizing territories) They still have slaves, but mostly in their expanded territories. Leopold II of Belgium in Congo for example. Wasn't part of the Atlantic slave trade, but had slaves in Africa.

I love that question about looking at past events in history that we consider to be bad, and how we wouldn't be who we are today without them. The "I wouldn't change the mistakes I made and the obstacles I faced, because they made me smarter and stronger" argument applied to a historical perspective. That's a very insightful and philosophical question that makes you really think. I also liked another comment you guys made on another one of your videos about how minorities will always strive to be the majority and will feel like they haven't reached equality until they are the majority. I never really thought about it like that before, but after living in Hawaii for three years, I found myself in the minority for the first time in my life and so when you said that, it kind of made sense to me. The thing with American slavery is that it was "race based". Basically the race science was fabricated for the purpose of justifying slavery. Slavery did exist since the begining of time, but in America there are multiple factors involved. So in order to get rid of that problem, categorization that was invented for that purpose needs to be abandoned. Human variations in pigment in eye color and hair color changed throughout history and there was never a known population of homo sapiens that existed in a vaccum to constitute as scientifically valid separate race. Neanderthals were different race of humans-they were homo-Neanderthalis. In ancient times people were aware of differences in phenotype, but they treated it simply as you would treat variations in hair, eye color or gradients in pigment. If they did make some hierarchy based on looks it originated in the ideal of beauty.
