Misch and Dayes killed it on this track. That open snare on the drums, combined with subtle unscripted rolls, gives off a jazz vibe that completely transforms what would have been a straight forward trap/hip-hop beat. The foundation - built on notes of an eerie synthesizer - remains constant throughout the song, thus creating an underlying sound synonymous with 80's music. Couple that with the strategic influence of violin and you have the sounds of a new age masterpiece. What kinda music? Whatever kind you make of it chief.

*Just my interpretation of this music video* : I think the man in the video is depicted as dealing with social anxiety, or a form of anxiety. As the drums intensified, his eyes darted from one person to the next, fixated on how he believes they're all looking at him. In the train, we see how everything is bright inside (i'll tap on this again later) but as the line "what kinda music" kicks in, it cuts to him facing the woods, the branches try to swallow him whole. He then fearfully runs through the woods and towards them, as if escaping the branches' grasps. Meanwhile he's also cautiously walking through the train as the scenes flash between a forest-like growth in the train and the train he's in. Him desperately running through the woods is him in his mind in "fight or flight mode" thus he sees the branches and growths in the train mimic the ones in his mind. He lingers in that headspace during his ride. The branches within the train could even symbolize the people- similar to the forest's branches- trying to suffocate him. Tom sings "my demons come and go," eerily exactly resembling how one would feel under the influence of anxiety. The train is no longer illuminated, it dissolved into a harrowingly dark space as the passing lights flicker across the passengers' ghostly faces. "I know that with time they come around," Tom sings, "they" being the reoccurring demons, perhaps ones in the man's mind. Interestingly the line is sung while the video focuses on the haunting faces, as if social situations resurrects those demons for him. Near the end, we see the "i don't feel so good" dog that was in the train now in the forest with the man, signifying that this is a dream-like state only in his mind. The interaction seems to be an amicable exchange between the two, a sort of parting, or lesson while the man watches, unflinchingly. And just the same as the dog was reduced to atoms, so was the man. But in contrast to how the dog faded calmly, the man now with his chest bare, ran in despair, fading into ash and dust. Perhaps he felt "naked" or "exposed" among the crowd of people, similar to how social anxiety may make one feel inadequately out of place. And when this is all said an done, his dream like state disappears and he is seen exiting the train station towards the actual forest he had envisioned. Maybe the forest in his imagination also illustrated how he'd rather arrive there quicker. But his imagination for an escape was no longer needed when he finally reached his destination, and there he was able to be free from civilization. /// My two cents! :') Love this song and MV with my whole being. Feel free to add anything else you noticed, share your opinion or share your interpretations as well!
