I got lucky when I found Tom Petty, after all the years I didn't know about him. I found a treasure that brings me so much joy, and sometimes sadness.I wish I had known him sooner. Dear Tom, I pray you're having a wonderful time in heaven.

TP and the Heartbreakers were one of my favorite bands, my brother brought home and cranked up Damn the Torpedos in 1979, I was 12 and I was hooked, my first concert ever was TP and the HBers in Dallas on the next tour, was not disappointed. Saw them 6 more times until 2010. Always great performances. I definitely preferred their stuff through the Long After Dark album(this tour on video here). They became even bigger stars during the following Jeff Lynn (of ELO and Traveling Wilburys fame) era. I was a huge ELO fan too.

Not that I don’t like full moon fever, wild flowers and all the later stuff, but the first five albums (and the live shows) really are my favourites. There is an amazing rock n roll energy on this one!

He finally got them shouting. God the early years must've been so painful as people just sat there. And now we can sing every damn song while he just stands there and listens to us. Even when he is in heaven. Right People? Yep. RIPTP.

Great year for a live show! Long After Dark & all that came before. I've noticed that his early years tend to be less popular than Wildflowers & later. I love it all, but those early albums are actually more special to me always. You're Gonna Get It! is a beast of an album from start to finish. Another great upload. Thank you ♥

Yes, it's fabulous footage. A friend of mine was working in Germany back in 82-3. He wasn't familiar with Tom Petty but mentioned (we communicated by snail mail back then) he was playing nearby, so I told him he HAD To go. He took my advice and became a massive lifelong fan that night. it was 35 years later than I finally got to see the band, at the Greek Theatre in Berkeley in August 2017, one of the last gigs Tom ever played.

Over the last year I've come to realise just how great TPHB was as a band 'in the scheme of things'. I've watched endless videos and have also realised how perfect the line-up was. Mike, Benmont, Steve, Scott, Ron and...... Stevie when she was around. They were....just perfect. Footnote: Mike Campbell is up there with the VERY best Looking forward there will always be TPHB.ALWAYS. So take heart, folks! All our love to Dana and the kids. I saw TP and The Heartbreakers on this very tour--at SPAC, in upstate NY. Summer 1982 it would have been... & I will never forget it as long I as live. It was a transcendental experience. One from which, I've neither fully returned nor been the same, really. This was, without question, his time; his halcyon. Both the momentum and focus of this particular band was reaching beyond risky levels.... I do recall, and quite vividly, several young females actually fainting or collapsing just a row or 2 from my party, from being put under Tom's spell and unleashing emotions. PS BTW, it was also my first ever rock show; I was 14 years old. It didn't matter at all. The truth to you I tell.

I cannot thank Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers enough for how much pleasure and joy and excitement and thrill they give my ears I so much love their music so so so so much I'm definitely trying to listen to more music and expand my repertoire but man this band still gives me tremendous pleasure and I've loved them since 1979 when I was only 11 years old. I found this brilliant 1982 Tom Petty and the heartbreaker's concert and he morphs the song breakdown into hit the road Jack it's really beautifully done

Just had that rush of a crush I felt back in high school. In love! (Reality check: I'm deeply happy he found true love with Dana--I'm just talking about teenage girl omg he is so freakin' hot!) Been so serious watching all his concerts, with so many intense emotions, it's great to feel like this--and remember him like this. Fantastic video. Thank you! ... I can't adequately put into words how much I love TPATH. We are so blessed to know Tom's music. My wife and I saw him in Indy on the 40th anniversary tour, and I was certain I'd never again see anything as musically gifted as that. Joe Walsh opened, and Petty capped off the show that was flawless. Sometimes when things get tough for me, I turn on The Last DJ, or the Traveling Wilburys or Damn the Torpedoes, or really anything he ever did, and it gets me through. Seriously, Thank God he never gave up when things got tough for him.

Unreal, stunning and I was totally enchanted, the concert went by way to fast for me. For me every musician was at his best. Very kinetic. Tom at his best, Mike at his best, Benmont at his best, Howie at his best and Stan at his best, even the tambourine guy. You know when Tom Petty was singing I believed every word. When he was singing “Breakdown “ you know your so sure the emotions he projecting is about a girl and some of it may be but I also think he is projecting emotions about something deeper in his past, almost like he is going back to another kind of pain maybe stemming from his an abusive person when he was a kid or a teenager that said some unkind things to him but obviously he survived and he knew he was strong enough to say I don’t care because he was going to make it and he did, he did so good. I saw a darker Mike CAMPBELL on this particular concert but so right on time with his solo parts, his guitar grabbed every word Tom was singing. Very special again very kinetic. Benmont Tench piano playing is just the right touch , so beautiful , Stan Lynch just really into it. Howie Epstein on bass perfect sound , great harmonies and he always seemed so humble when watching him play. I liked the ending with “Shout” “baby it’s the guitar man, he can bring you up he can bring you down”. Just beautiful, I got chills watching this performance. Excellent concert, always thank you Allyn Kessler for sharing.♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
