My sister had breast cancer and it matasised in 2016. She was a musician 38 years and she loved listening to her favorite artists. Tom Petty was one of them, I loved him too since a teenager. She was given 4 tickets to his last tour and was promised to meet him. Tom was so kind to her and wanted to sing with her unfortunately, her hair was all gone and she felt self conscious to do so. He treated my big sister like a queen. Gave her autographs, memorabilia, every tshirt from his last concert and any product they were selling on tour. He whispered in my sisters ear, I will see you again one day Laury.. She died in June 2017 Tom Petty passed in October 2017, We lost 2 wonderful people and musicians. I am sure they are playing guitars and serenading heaven... I am very grateful my sisters dream came true and couldnt have been with a nicer man.. Thank you Tom Petty

My dad used to sing this song when I was a little girl. He did it to be funny and because he liked the song. After he died I couldn't listen to this song without crying. Now 15 years later it still bring back memories but I love hearing it now. When I hear it I feel like he's saying hello from heaven. I have changed the meaning in my mind. I'm the "good girl" who loves Elvis, her mama, America, horses etc. and he's a "bad boy for breakin my heart" by leaving me when he passed. He doesn't even miss me because he's still with me, I just miss him because I can't see him. He's writing my name in the sky, left the world for awhile, etc. anyway, this is a great song and means a lot to me.

It’s never returning. Mass migration and government propaganda has killed western culture. Inflation and re-education camps are returning though. 60s, 70s, and 80s were the last great burst of humanity before it’s decline. Do you ever think about how there is no longer cultural definitions of the decades? 60s - beads, flowers, peace, love. 70s- bell bottoms, rock n roll 80s - Synth music, neon colors, etc. etc. Now, 2010s - ??? 2020s-??? The cultural enlightenment of the western world has been extinguished. Our culture consists of corporate fashion, corporate designed architecture, bland corporate cities, corporate controlled social movements. Anybody that is old enough to have experienced the 80s or even the 90s knows what I mean. Something was vibrant in life and culture in those days. Whatever “it” was is missing today. I feel like 9/11 was the catalyst for the shift, or a result of the shift taking place. Schizophrenic rant over.

I just watched the video of Tom Petty's *Free Fallin'* It brought back memories of my first year in Budapest in 92/93 when I lived in a one-bedroom apartment in a four-unit house on "Eagle Hill" with a balcony overlooking a modest garden. I would often exercise to that tune and the others on that album. I can recall the smells of that time and the liberation I felt living there in that freshly post-communist world so far away from my uncle's fabric store in Rochester, hospitals and all things American. I was free falling right along with old Tom. So bittersweet to recall, three decades later.

@evanmorrow12345 жыл бұрын
My Dad died on Fathers Day. I had spent 3 days at my sister's house where my Dad was for the last month of his life but I had to get back home. My sister drove me down to the ferryboat and as I was getting out of the car I said "I'll see ya later Dad".... He kinda smiled a little and said "I hope so". It was so sad cuz I knew that I'd never see him again and I think he knew it too. Then they drove away and he passed away the next morning on Fathers Day. Thanx for listening to me

Don't cry because he is gone, smile because he was here. R.I.P Tom Petty... edit: why tf does this have so many likes. edit 2: not to be that guy but thanks for the likes. nice to see everyone coming together on the replies to the comment, ill try to respond to new replies in the future. the line "gonna leave this world for a while" hits hard. his impact on music is great, his time here was legendary, we were lucky to have shared the same time with him when we did, and we should all be incredibly grateful for it. theres not a day that goes by where i dont think about him and his legacy, and even though hes gone, we can still live that legacy as many times as we want. ill say it again, R.I.P Tom Petty.

My ghost friend Kyle’s dad co worker, Lenny, would sing this song at work. He often brought him over when the nanny got sick. He would smile and kick around his legs to the beat. Lenny sadly passed away four years ago from stomach cancer. Kyle’s dad sang this song at his funeral, but burst into tears. He missed his beautiful voice. This was the reason that he cried whenever he heard it now. His dad died this year due to bladder cancer. I think they are now happy in heaven.
