Not only that; but the other guitar solo in the beginning is the standard version were it mimics sadness. The Prince version is so emotional the guitar actually weeps. Prince plays his solos with emotion and as if they were the lead vocal.

This sounds different than other videos I’ve seen. It’s like the person recording it is standing by Jeff Young (keyboards), and Steve Winwood (Hammond B3 organ) as I hear them so predominantly. Also Jeff Lynne’s vocals sound off and I’ve seen him in concert years and years after that. Jeff is Dhani Harrison’s godfather and besides being in ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) he was in the Traveling Wilbury’s with George, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison and Bob Dylan. The first soloist is Mark Mann who is also with ELO. Dhani Harrison looks so much like his dad it’s spooky.

You are right, David. That guy whose voice you liked is indeed Jeff Lynne. Jeff Lynne is accomplished British music artist in his own right and was close to George Harrison. Jeff in fact worked with George Harrison on his last album and after George died helped finish it. The other person listed in that title is Dhani Harrison who is George Harrison's son was was to Tom Petty's left on stage. Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty were the ones appointed to officially induct George Harrison to the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame in that show. I don't know when this reaction request was made but it was strange that the person who requested it didn't give you any official links. After Prince's death, this very performance found new life and went viral purely because of Prince's guitar performance here. That official video over at the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame's youtube channel has, as of me writing this now, 119 MILLION views. It became so popular in fact that the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame almost 2 years ago released two updated videos. One titled "2021 Remaster" then several months later a "Director's Cut". Both versions have better picture and I think better sound but they also use different angles than the original version uploaded. Some people point out that it was at this show that George Harrison was inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame and that Prince's performance was somehow disrespectful. Pure nonsense. First, what most of them fail to mention and/or realize is that it was also in that very same show that Prince was also inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame (officially inducted by Hip Hop group Outkast and Alicia Keys). Second, if you watch many of the different covers and performances of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", you'll notice that the second half of the song is essentially open to whoever is given the guitar solo duties to have at it and do their thing. Look up when George Harrison himself performed this song with the great Gary Moore on stage. Gary Moore comes in at the same part of the song that Prince does here and he lets loose in his own way. Or listen to Peter Frampton's cover where he goes into his own shred fest in that same second half. So I reject those kinds of complaints by some that have made it against Prince here. Prince was fantastic. And really, it is because of Prince that the video has over a hundred million views. Because of the clip being rediscovered after Prince's death and going viral by a new audience, it without a doubt introduced "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" as well as an entire genre of music and musical artists like George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne, etc... to whole groups of people that otherwise would've never listened to any of it otherwise. It's nothing but a win-win. @@DaRunningManSubs One thing that strikes me with a the version used for this video compared with the later edits is that it seems the later edits actually 'fixed' a few notes of Prince's solo. For example at around 10:40 he blatantly misses a chord change while in the later edits this seems to be fixed in post. Still a fantastic solo regardless though.

Prince's solo was a 10 easily. Prince manages to take you on a journey and story with each of his solos. The dynamics and showmanship and performance was excellent. He does this all the time in every live guitar solo. And he's as good on Bass, Drums and Keyboard.

The guy who sings the chorus is Jeff Lynne. Dhani Harrison is the kid playing acoustic guitar behind Tom Petty, who looks exactly like his dad Geroge Harrison did when he was young.

He was good friends with George Harrison, co-writing and producing George's comeback album Cloud Nine. Tom Petty, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Roy Orbison, and Bob Dylan are members of the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys. The group started by accident because George and Jeff needed a b-side for "This Is Love." George wrote the Traveling Wilburys song "Handle With Care". I dont remember how Tom, Roy, and Bob got involved (I think it was a jam session) but they realized that "Handle with Care" was too good to just be a B-side, so they formed the Traveling Wilburys. I highly recommend the groups, especially, "Handle With Care" and "End of the Line."

Hey David, I think the interesting things about this performance is not entirely obvious, and needs some backstory: Prince (who was being inducted into the rock and roll hall of fame) and agreed to perform George Harrison induction posthumously was not well leading up to this night, and pushed off rehearsal until the night before the show. He asked for space to play the last solo. He eventually showed up, blasted an amazing solo in a way only he could do, threw his Tele in the air, and it never came down…

Hehe Dani Harrison is almost a carbon copy of his dad at that age, so it has to be Jeff Lynne cause you didn't mention Steve Winwood 😂 The funny thing was that they didn't rehearse this and that they had no idea what Prince's solo was going to be. He just let them know he got it. And of course this performance is famous for Prince's vanishing guitar after he throws it up 😂🤘🏽

Along with Bob Dylan and Roy Orbison, Jeff Lynn, Tom Petty, and George Harrison comprised the two-album supergroup called the Travelling Wilburys. Lynn and Harrison also served as producers for the project. PS - Not to beat down of you too much re: your uncertainty about Lynn's identity, but given how one of the guitarists was manifestly of a younger generation than the others, you should have put your money down on him being Dhani - aka, the son of George - Harrison. 🫠🫠🫠

The song itself does come across as very vanilla I'll agree with you there . I would agree with others that you should perhaps do some ELO reactions - you'll be surprised . The Traveling Wilburys was one of the few ensembles that deserved the description " Supergroup " and consisted of a couple of minor musicians you might have heard of - Tom Petty , Roy Orbison , George Harrison , Jeff Lynne and Bob Dylan Just one final thought - Americans can sometimes be so parochial ( especially musically 😉 )

There is absolutely no guessing as to who Dhani's father was. Absolute double. I'm surprised you don't know who Jeff Lynne is as he was the mastermind behind the Electric Light Orchestra in the 1970's onwards or were they not well known in the US? They were ground-breaking in their time for introducing guitars with classical stringed instruments in the same song.

You are kidding right? Tom encouraged Prince to continue because he knew it was making this special, which he said in an interview afterwards. Prince is also a band leader and he looked at Tom for his approval and Tom smiled and Prince continued. Prince left because he was late for a show he was having that night (you do know Prince was inducted into the HOF that night as well). Let's be honest Prince liven up that performance and we and they all know it. We need to stop with the BS.
