What I love about this performance of Prince’s .. he looks so happy and is enjoying every second of it. And the fact that he improvised that whole solo. Didn’t know he was doing it until about 30 mins before the show. I miss him.

It is amazing how much hate Prince received from this performance because he SHOWED OUT/OFF. If you know then you know that Prince was and still is underated as a guitar player. This was his way of reminding "FOLKS" that he could shred with the best of them!

The song was originally written and sung by George Harrison. This is one of many Beatles songs with George as the vocalist. This performance was for George's posthumous entrance into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. George's wife said she only wanted artists who had collaborated with George to perform. The 10 year old child you mentioned is Dhanni - George Harrison's son. He's a mirror image of his dad at that age. George wrote some amazing songs when he was a Beatle, some folks say his writing and production is up there with the best.

Personally I hope he's hiding it somewhere for his great grandkids or some such 🤷‍♀️ also fun fact they barely rehearsed and were pretty much winging it. Thank you for giving kudos to Tom Petty. Sure, in this performance it’s all about prince, and he definitely deserves the spotlight for shredding that guitar. But we cannot overlook the significance of the other members in the band. There are two people from Tom Petty‘s group called the Heartbreakers, Steve Ferrone on drums and standing right behind Prince you can see Scott Thurston on guitar, hevwho is also a member of Tom Petty‘s group the Heartbreakers. Jeff Lynne right out there in front doing his share of the lead vocals. He is a master producer. He is also a member of the supergroup The Traveling Wilburys, and his own group called Electric Light Orchestra. On keyboards, you have the elder statesman and a huge hit maker, Mr. Steve Winwood. Steve Winwood had one of his first hits when he was just a teenager in the 1960s a song called Gimme some Lovin. The young man on acoustic guitar standing next to Tom Petty is none other than Dhani Harrison, his father being George Harrison of the Beatles.

The performance dates back to 2004, on the occasion of George Harrison's posthumous induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Even though Harrison did not manage to integrate many of his songs into the Beatles' extensive catalogue and thus prevail over Lennon/McCartney, songs such as Here Comes The Sun, Something, Taxman and While My Guitar Gently Wheeps are among the best Beatles compositions (which certainly did not apply to his Indian music experiments The Inner Light and Within You Without You). In the original, Eric Clapton played the iconic guitar. He is certainly the guitarist who made the guitar cry the most beautifully on this occasion and in countless live performances with Harrison, even though Prince's solo is certainly one of the best solos. According to the wishes of Harrison's widow Olivia, only musicians who had played with George should take part in the tribute, which Prince actually ruled out, but the producer of the telecast was keen on his participation and persuaded Olivia to make an exception. So he asked Prince and Prince agreed because he felt it was an honor to be able to perform with Tom Petty. Tom Petty and Jeff Lynn were friends and companions of Harrison in the supergroup Traveling Wilburys. Lynn and Petty are the singers at this performance, not Winwood!!!!! Lynn is co-founder of the Electric Light Orchestra, composer of countless world hits and extremely successful producer. Steve Winwood is a singer, multi-instrumentalist and composer of many hits. At just 15 years old he led the experienced musicians of the Spencer Davies Group to success and fame. He was a member of legendary groups such as Traffic and Blind Faith before finally starting a solo career. Here he plays the Hammond organ. Yes, the younger copy of George Harrison is his son Dhani. It might also be worth mentioning Marc Mann, who took over Clapton's licks and the middle solo in his style. There was a commotion during rehearsals because Mann allegedly interrupted Prince's solo, and the rehearsals with Prince were then canceled. He reassured those in charge that everything would be fine, as happened. It was not the first time Prince had thrown his guitar; this was reported by his guitar maker, who repaired his instruments, because guitars could sometimes be damaged in these actions. Prince asked his guitar roadie to position himself in front of the stage and catch the guitar, then hand it over to Oprah. The guitar was supposedly returned to Paisley Park. Fun fact: some claim that the solo was a response to Rolling Stone. They had just published their list of the 100 best guitarists and Prince was not listed.

@@tazzznphilly Prince was fascinated by guitars and many professional guitarists have a guitar maker on hand for repairs because wear and tear also occurs through normal use. It is not necessarily the case that he needs one particularly often. I know that he worked with guitar makers who built him special guitars. Prince is said to have played Gibson at the beginning of his career, but then switched to the MadCat H.S. Anderson/Hohner Telecaster (a model was played at this performance). Dave Rusan built the Cloud for Prince, among others kzbin.info/www/bejne/gXvdomWOqdSUlZosi=RsTwHv4M_JY2-Tg3. He also apparently repaired guitars for him and this information comes from him. Of course I can't say exactly which people he worked with, all I know is that two Germans built guitars for him. In recent years, Prince has had two guitars from Jens Ritter. Steve Winwood has a great deep singing voice, but he wasn't singing in this one. I would even bet that both of you have heard Steve Winwood sing at some point in your life and didn't know it was him. But the singers in THIS cover song are Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne, he was in Electric Light Orchestra and Travelling Wilburys. Steve was on the organ I do believe. The young one is the son of George Harrison, the man they are honoring who died, he was lead guitarist of the Beatles, was also in Travelling Wilburys and had a solo career. The son's Dhani Harrison and he looks like a young George Harrison, but didn't have a career like the others.

You obviously are more of a Prince hater than a connoisseur of a great music, showmanship and appreciating the opportunity to witness one of the greatest guitarists of our lifetime perform. Tom Petty actually reached out to Prince to do this solo because Tom was upset about Prince being omitted as one of the top 100 greatest guitarist of all time when Tom knew for a fact he was. If you watch closely, you can see Tom both smiling and egging Prince on which is why there are so many breaks in the solo, he wanted Prince to keep going and to keep stepping it up. This may have been a tribute to George Harrison and his music but for Tom it was both that and the opportunity to shine a spotlight on his friend Prince who he felt was being disrespected because he knew Prince was a once in a generation guitarist.
