Bros, you're killing me. The focus here should be on the fact that these icons came together (pun intended), to honor the late George Harrison. Harrison died after battling cancer and fighting off an intruder in his home who stabbed George multiple times. He defended his wife and his young son, Dhani, and was almost dead by the time help arrived. He never completely recovered and his cancer returned. This is an epic homage to GEORGE . Dhani is his spirit and image. You can see the pure joy on his face to hear his father's song performed as a tribute.

Prince is a typical example of "the crazy genius". There are many of them, not just into music but among writers, scientists, etc. An they are often a bit arrogant, too. The rest of us have to take them as they are. On the other hand, you have a lot of very talented persons, true genius, who are NOT crazy, NOT arrogant. Take for example Stevie Ray Vaughan, a very kind and humble person, not at all arrogant, by many regarded as the best guitarist ever lived.

Once you understand that Tom Petty invited Prince to the performance to show Rolling Stone Magazine (or Billboard, or somebody. I can't remember) that leaving Prince off that "100 best guitarists" list was a mistake, that pimp walk off stage makes so much sense. I loved the little looks between Tom and Prince as well. Tom seemed to be egging him on too and it was amazing! I've seen this performance so many times and each time I get chills.

Why do people say tom petty invited prince to perform? They didn't want prince there let alone to use their tribute for him to prove a point to rolling stone. They were forced to let him play. Dhani Harrison gave multiple interviews discussing this. Which is why I find it odd that people claim it was Tom Petty as he was the most upset about having prince there. I take no pleasure in saying this as I like all involved but the truth is the truth. Again the interviews are on KZbin.

@@jasonnelson6624 Whoa, slow down there. He never said anything about minixiv7 knowing more than Dhani, and you sure as hell don't know that Petty was being petty and staring daggers at Prince the whole time, either. They were forced to include Prince against their will? That's one thing, but who did the forcing, and was it at Prince's demand? If Prince asked politely, and the showrunner, or whoever it was decided to make it happen without being asked to make it so over the objection of the rest, it would make no sense to be pissed at Prince. Things like that happen in that business, and they all knew it, so their anger would have been directed at the one who did the forcing. We don't know what Tom was thinking at the time, but I do know that once they stepped on that stage, they were committing to killin' it, and that's what everyone did. Dislike, distaste, respect, admiration, or sexual attraction for a moment? We ain't psychic, so unless we have something more solid to go on, we can't know. And if you think that's me jumping on you the way you jumped on Mark, that's on you, because all I've talked about is the limits of what we in the comments know. Show me Tom going on record saying he was staring daggers at Prince the whole time, and I'll accept Tom's word on it. Until then, all I know is that few, if any still know.

George got a little embarrassed and said."Guess I should have mentioned that before now, huh?" The vast majority of people who know anything at all about the guitar, and who listen to guitar-based music know Prince was very talented and could shred. There are articles pushing that view everywhere. No artist who's ever been interviewed about Prince doesn't rank him highly. You can't go to any comment section on any video that references Prince without people talking about how good he was. Prince is not "underrated." That's what's so insane about the Travelling Willburys. As amazing as Lynne is, he was the lightweight of the group. How many groups in history can accurately say that a musician/songwriter of Lynnes caliber is the FIFTH biggest name in the band? Similar to how Kris Kristofferson, absolute LEGEND, is the forth biggest name in the Highwaymen.

@@snerdtergusonyes maby but lynne was the biggest when it came to production,,,, dont think any off the others came close in that respects

What you didn't say was the great Billy Preston was playing the piano which he did for the Beatles a few times. He was real good friends with them.

One of my favorite solos of all time. Prince was a beast on guitar and criminally underated for his ability to play. 🔥🔥🔥 reaction.

We knew we were witnessing something special that night. Never could I have imagined a time when Prince wasn't here but his genius that night would still be inspiring generations now. Beautiful 🧡

I grew up in that era- 60s, 70s, 80s- listening to all of these artists and attending their concerts. I'm still learning things about groups/ artists that I never knew back in the day.

Tom Petty is front and center singing the verses, Jeff Lynne is sunglasses singing the pre chorus, Steve Winwood is playing the organ, Dhani Harrison is the young dude strumming the acoustic next to Prince (he is the son of George Harrison), and Prince is the the colorful dude who gets the end solo. This was recorded at the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame. Each year a handful of acts are inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall Of Fame and a little speech is given about each inductee and it is customary for the inductee to perform (if they are not able then somebody of high caliber is tapped to perform their music in their place). This particular year, George Harrison was being inducted for a solo career outside the Beatles, but he had recently passed away. After the Beatles, George Harrison had an epic solo career, and then he started a super group called The Traveling Wilburys which Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne were a part of. They were here to perform George Harrison's most known song in his place, along with George's son Dhanni who is also a musician. Prince was being inducted that night and Steve Winwood was being inducted that night as a part of the group Traffic, so they decided to join in. Originally this song was recorded by the Beatles and guitar legend Eric Clapton recorded the guitar solo. Rolling Stone had recently published a list of best guitar players and either left Prince off the list or placed him very low on the list and Prince wanted to showcase his talent. Prince showed up late for the soundcheck/dress rehearsal so another guitar player filled in. Prince saw that guitar player was nailing it and was having fun so Prince said "let him do the solo and I will add something on the end..."

Every time I watch it, and I never get tired of it, I always wonder, "Where the hell did that guitar go?" There are certain people you will always remember what you were doing when you heard they passed. Prince was one of those for me. Tom Petty, too. Mainly because I had just seen Tom in concert a few weeks prior to his passing. The first time I saw Tom was in Oakland in the late 70's. Prince lived in Oakland at that time. I would not doubt he attended some Bill Graham produced concerts.

Mr. Petty was being true the George Harrison version of this song. If you listen to the Harrison version you can see that Petty and Mr. Lynne were true true to the Harrison version with own natural vocal styles. Prince rocked. I wish he had featured more guitar work in his music. Keep up the good job. Still waiting to see you listen to Traffic/Steve Winwood, Low Spark of High Heeled Boys!

The walk off was the way it was because Prince actually didnt want to play the song. They basically begged him to do it and when he agreed, he went out in total arrogant mode. If you research this solo, youll find multiple stories saying that. Anyway, when the solo was supposed to be over, he actually took over the stage and showed them what they were begging him for no matter how many feathers he ruffled. So he went out, he played, he owned it, and then he left. Purely a master of his craft no matter how arrogant he came across....

A middle finger in a red hat showing Rolling Stone where they went wrong. But what I absolutely love is that he kept checking back with the rest of the guys, so he was doing what he was doing WITHIN the frame of the occasion. I miss that man.

Hi Krizz and BP! Rolling Stone Magazine, who published a list of the greatest rock n roll guitarists of all time and left Prince off that list, also owns The Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. This was the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame tribute to George Harrison. Prince performed with his friend Tom Petty on this to flip a big fat middle finger to Rolling Stone and did a fab job of saying f u. I've worked in rock n roll my whole life and I believe Prince and Joe Walsh are the greatest guitarists ever.

Billy Preston on keyboards. He did a ton of studio work with the Beatles. Edited to add - Tom Petty and Jeff Lynne were very close friends with George Harrison. You may enjoy the work they did as a "supergroup: called The Traveling Wilburys. Or maybe not, but what I love, is all those inredibly successful and talented guys getting together for the sheer joy of the music.

Dhani Harrison is standing next to Tom Petty. BTW,everyone on stage saw the guitar go up in the air but no one saw it come back down. This performance was the night Prince was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. He was asked only that day to do the performance with Petty/others for the tribute to George Harrison. He was given the ending solo and told by Petty to just burn it up...and he did!

Prince and Stevie Ray Vaughn had one thing in common, they didn’t just play their guitars, they made love to them. I was weeping the first time I saw this amazing performance. The term “genius” is overused but Prince played 24 instruments. He was a genius.

I’m sure someone already said this, but when Eric Clapton was asked what it was like to be the best guitarist in the world, he said he didn’t know: “you need to ask Prince.”

He said he didn’t know Jeff Lynne, but I’ll be he actually does. Jeff Lynne was producing and playing some amazing stuff. ELO (Electric Light Orchestra) is Jeff Lynne. Everybody has heard those songs. Traveling Willbury’s was started by Jeff Lynne and Tom Petty, and they snagged George Harrison, Roy Orbison, and Bob Dylan too. That was a crew right there! But Jeff was close with the Beatles, Olivia Newton John, Abba and the Swedish scene, etc. But Jeff, being a Britt, is a musical genius.
